Manga has interested me for a long time as the storyline and characterization seem to be, on average, superior to their Western counterparts, though that may be simple bias on my part. I do know that I have always enjoyed manga like MahouSenseiNegima and FullmetalAlchemist to Western comics. Anime is much less interesting to me, though I have enjoyed certain exceptional examples like CowboyBebop and IrresponsibleCaptainTylor.

Role-playing and acting have always been a part of my life in one form or another, the latest incarnation being online "play-by-post" role-plays. Most of the posts I have made on the [[http://www.escapistmagazine.com/ Escapist]] Forums are in the "Forum Games and RP" section. Over the last 2 years or so, I have found that characters are my preferred driving mechanism in creative writing, mostly thanks to the sheer number of RPs I have joined that failed when the GM decided he wasn't interested in it anymore.

I'm your average, straight, male, white Anglo-Saxon Protestant literature/technology/music/video game geek, with otaku, aspiring hacker, aspiring electrician and history buff thrown in for good measure. I'm also a leftist libertarian. If you hear about some oppressive government entity blowing up in midwestern Ohio in the middle of the night, I'm probably (directly or indirectly) responsible.

My favorite author is probably a three-way tie between Mercedes Lackey, Robert A. Heinlein and Terry Pratchett. Great fantasy, great (read: a-fucking-mazing) science fiction, great comedy.

My favorite technology-that-should-totally-exist-right-now is probably the plasma speaker: by arcing electricity through two open wires, you can create a clearer sound than with traditional speakers; the downside is that, if you touch it, you will die. Or be bald. You'll at least be flung across the room.

Both my political and history buff thrown in for good measure. I'm also religious beliefs are unfortunately too complex to be pithily summarized by a leftist libertarian. If categorical statement such as "I am a Democrat" or "I am a Christian," however you hear about some oppressive government entity blowing up in midwestern Ohio in the middle of the night, I'm probably (directly or indirectly) responsible.

favorite author is probably as I read both too much and too quickly to narrow the field considerably. I will say that Robert Heinlein has had a three-way tie between serious impact in my personal life, as have C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. Both Patricia Wrede and Mercedes Lackey, Robert A. Heinlein and Terry Pratchett. Great Lackey put out solid reads that I would recommend to anyone with a penchant for fantasy, great (read: a-fucking-mazing) science fiction, great comedy.

lighter material, thoroughly enjoying the ''For Dummies'' series.

I can't really say that I have a favorite video game, or even favorite video games. The DevilMayCry series is pretty fun, as are the DragonQuest and KingdomHearts franchises. I've been playing NetHack since I was twelve ([[NintendoHard six years I've been playing and I haven't beaten it once]]). PrinceOfPersia: The Sands of Time is probably the closest thing to a "favorite" game I have.

Mmmm...manga. FullmetalAlchemist, MahouSenseiNegima, RaveMaster, HunterXHunter, and DeadmanWonderland are the ones I read on a regular basis. I'm not so into anime, though I've watched CowboyBebop, GGundam and IrresponsibleCaptainTylor from beginning to end.

I'm also a whore for dead languages and polearms. FreudWasRight, however, when he said that, sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar. Here, a ''naginata'' is just a ''naginata''.

I'm a regular contributor to the [[http://www.escapistmagazine.com/ Escapist forums]], especially the Forum Games and RP section. On that note, role playing is a fairly prominent interest of mine, though I've found that it's mostly the character creation that gets me interested: give me an interesting setting and I'll make you a damn interesting PC. Just don't expect me to play him/her regularly. Or at all.

Some of my favorite quotes (Copy/pasted from my e-mail sig):
* Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear--not absence of fear. Except a creature be part coward it is not a compliment to say it is brave; it is merely a loose misapplication of the word. --Mark Twain

* The motto of chivalry is also the motto of wisdom; to serve all, but love only one. --Honore de Balzac

* Fight for your opinions, but do not believe that they contain the whole truth or the only truth. --Charles Anderson Dana

* The center of every man's existence is a dream. Death, disease, insanity, are merely material accidents, like a toothache or a twisted ankle. That these brutal forces always besiege and often capture the citadel does not prove that they are the citadel. --Gilbert Keith Chesterton

* Our work for peace must begin within the private world of each one of us. To build for man a world without fear, we must be without fear. To build a world of justice, we must be just. -- Dag Hammarskjöld

* I doubt that the imagination can be suppressed. If you truly eradicated it in a child, he would grow up to be an eggplant. -- [=Ursula K. LeGuin=]

* Although knowledge of how things work is sufficient to allow manipulation of nature, what humans really want to know is why things work. Children don't ask how the sky is blue. They ask why the sky is blue. -- Michael Crichton

When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world - "No. You move." --Captain America

* Many a truest word has been spoken by the Jester. Standing against the tide is the noblest of gestures. Describe [=RagnorakTres=] here.

Well I would, but then everyone would be frightened.
