kaalban is a being. It is a human being, a person. One thing to note about him is that he's very clueless, and most of the times bullshits his way through life.

I have been here for quite a time (at least I know the days before the reworking of the whole site), and I do edit some pages from time to time. But I'm not really active, mostly being in either Role Play or in other Forums. Am an aspiring writer, and I have finished the first draft of my first novel, so at least there is progress...

* I am planning to write about 12 stories. Some stories may consist of about twelve novels, some might be significantly shorter, while others might be a bit more balanced. Four of them are superhero-esque ({{Capepunk}} of different flavors), another four are science fiction (biopunk, time travel, space opera and post-apocalyptic) and the last four are fantasy (two of them urban, another two more traditional, all of them kinda dark).

''Culture'' is a comedy fantasy series that I may or not may not be able to write in my lifetime. It won't take long, but considering that abundance of projects I have in mind... I highly doubt about writing this one. So, here are the tropes that will be present in this work (or more accurately, bunch of ideas that are loosely connected to each other). For more information about fantasy races, visit ''Race'' folder below.

There are two stories: ''Legend of a Traitor' (LOAT)' and ''Demon from Another World'' (DFAW). Legend of a Traitor is more of a traditional fantasy (for a lack of better terms), while Demon from Another World bears similarities to Isekai genre.

!List of general ''Culture'' tropes:
* {{Twenty Bear Asses}}: In ''Legend of a Traitor'', The party had to undertake skinning 20 crockons (bears with scales) as their first job for a lord. Made fun of:

* BloodKnight: It's pretty much agreed by everyone that this is one of the core problems of this world, aliens or not.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Most cultures (even human ones) have moralities that we might consider... morbid.
* CrapsaccharineWorld: Despite looking like an average happy fantasy world, Althrenia is, upon closer inspection, completely screwed-over world.
* DarkFantasy: While not filled with overt darkness like, say {{Literature/A Song Of Ice And Fire}} or {{Literature/The Witcher}}, Althrenia is not exactly a land filled with rainbows and sunshines, either. Wildlife is pretty dangerous, heroes often turn out to be either selfish or fanatics, villains are... villains (that was pretty redundant), politics often screw over normal people and the main party is not filled with moral people (they have their moments of good, but otherwise... nah)
* FantasticNamingConvention:
** Calmarian names are distinctively Korean.
** Seabrethren have Roman-sounding names.
* GreyAndGrayMorality: There is no Good vs Evil conflict in this fantasy world. Everyone is out for themselves. However, it's not PlayedForDrama like in {{Literature/A Song Of Ice And Fire}}. Except for Han dynasty vs Shi-Yun conflict. This one is PlayedForDrama.
* HumanSacrifice: In Althrenia, it is deemed as ''highly'' inefficient form of magic, so only few crazy ones perform it.
* LowFantasy: Oh, ''Culture'' is so much this. No extra-supernatural forces? Check. Various civilizations trying to gain the upper hand through any means? Check. Cynicism (albeit, a bit downplayed and [[BlackComedy humorous one]])? Check. Lack of heroism? Check. Relatvely small scope? Check. The only characteristics of this genre that this work does not follow is human dominance (Althrenia has two continents, one of which is not controlled by humans. Besides, continent of Belzarkia (the one where humans live) is pretty evenly matched), evil or bat-shit crazy sorcerers (it's case-by-case situation, but mostly, sorcerers are a bit eccentric, nothing more).
* MagicAIsMagicA: Humanity's magic works like this. Both Manifestation and Nature magic school have set rules and restrictions. However, they differ in what kind of rule they have:
** Nature magic is more of a typical "magic as science" type. There are fundamental universal laws on how to cast a spell. Those who are in Nature school try to understand fundamental nature of the universe in order to perform their magic. They work handily with science in general, so Nature magic has some technological elements to them. As an example, dynasty of Han always used Nature magic (with a few notable exceptions). In fact, there has been many debates whether this is ClarkesThirdLaw or not in-universe, generating debates that always involved someone's mother. [[SarcasmMode How mature.]]
** Manifestation is different, in that the person themselves dictate the rules and regulations. Manifestation school sees a person as its own universe. Only through self-introspection and self-discovery can they truly unlock their potential. Religion also affects Manifestation types of magic to a degree. Manifestation is infamous for its [[{{Koan}} nonsense quotes]] that sometimes don't make in context, but make sense out of context. And it gives many, ''many'' types of ridiculous magic.
* MagicIsMental: Fools definitely can't use magic in this universe, as one requires to be either wise or intelligent (or both) to properly utilize magic of this world. However, sometimes, ''rarely'', Manifestation magic can form for the fools for reasons unknown.
* MartyrdomCulture: Cultures who propagated sacrifice for... anything are only mentioned in history books. [[{{Deconstruction}} In short, they are dead and have zero chances of survival in a world where everyone is pragmatic to some degree.]]
* MedievalStasis: Averted by any other races except [[FairFolk Magdnas]]. Most civilizations develop technology, slowly but surely.
* MedievalEuropeanFantasy: Very much averted. While there are governments with typical fantasy aesthetics, most are not.
* TheOrder: Order of Orders are self-proclaimed heroes who train "warriors of ages" to defeat supposed "Dark Lord" (who doesn't, didn't and won't exist). But, ironically, they are the BigBad of first ''Culture'' story arc.
* TheProphecy: The one that applies to all organizations after Eternal Empire is "The Rot Within Shall Destroy the Whole". It means that organizations will fall due to their own flaws, never because of external factors.
** PropheciesAreAlwaysRight: See YouCantFightFate.
* TheVerse: All my works are set in the same cosmology, even though it may not be obvious at first.
* YouCantFightFate: One of the laws of the universe that applies to all nations and organizations is that "The Rot Within Shall Destroy The Whole". Everyone who studied Nature school tried to prevent this for their own organizations... and they failed. Every single one of them.

* ArcVillain: [[KnightTemplar Order of Order]] for ''Hunt for Potential Heroes'' arc, [[MadScientist Adranan]] for ''New World of Logic'' arc, [[FairFolk Magdnas]] for ''Death of Federation'' arc... The list goes on.
* BigBad: Dynasty of Han from Shi-Yun's perspective.
** However, from their perspective, Shi-Yun himself is this.

* BloodyHilarious: Used as a parody of fantasy filled with showers of blood.
* CastFullOfCrazy: The main party... is not sane and moral, in any sense. Let's see... MadScientist dark elf who wants to dissect main protagonist both as research and as an expression of love, assassin dwarf who is a HeroicSociopath at best, insect-controlling witch who acts as an insect queen because she has no friends and skinny shark person who transforms into BloodKnight half-crab half-shark humanoid using drugs. The main protagonist is probably the only normal one, but even then he is not exactly KnightInShiningArmor.
* CentralTheme: Does [[CultureJustifiesEverything culture truly justify everything?]]
** Also "The Rot Within Shall Destroy The Whole".
* CerebusRollercoaster: While there are many comedic moments in this work, some arcs will be more serious than others. "The End" arc is the most serious and the most somber of all, with least amount of goofiness.
* DeconstructorFleet: Think {{Series/Game Of Thrones}}, except comical in many ways.

* BewareTheSillyOnes: They are a silly lot, but they can royally ruin everyone's lives if provoked.
* [[spoiler: BreakingTheFellowship: It was due to Shi-Yun's manipulative tendencies. They came ''extremely'' close to being exterminated by enemies they have made because of this.]]
* ComedicSociopathy: All of them, to a certain degree.
* FantasyAxisOfEvil: Original five fit in the criteria:
** Han Shi-Yun, leader of the group, is Humanoid, being human and all.
** Larina, Dark Moonkin MadScientist, is Crafty with the use of technology.
** Tarken, [[OurDwarvesAreAllTheSame Grounder]] assassin, is Fallen for his backstabbing and deceiving tendencies.

!Han Shi-Yun:

Prince of Calmarren, TheKingdom of the North, part of Four Kingdoms in the south (the continent is pretty big). After the expedition he led pretty much failed (actually, he orchestrated the failure of it), Shi-Yun was taken in by Dark Moonkin government. From there, he meets his first companion, [[MadScientist Larina]] and begins his adventure across the continent.

* AffectionateNickname: Yun.
* AmnesiacHero: Shi-Yun pretends to be this during his first contact with Dark Moonkinto get more information from them. He puts on this facade when he meets Calmarrenians (part being TheGadfly, part avoiding the search party that is probably looking for him).
* AntiHero: Type 3 (with a mix of Type 1). Not above killing his enemies (sometimes subjecting them to FateWorseThanDeath just to spite them), TheGadfly and, according to [[ComedicSociopathy Tarken]], "has a crime lord mindset". Still, Shi-Yun is definitely the most moral of the crew.
* AntiVillain: Type 4, with traces of 1. Never malicious, but still has incredibly selfish motivations and willing to manipulate everyone to achieve it (though he grows out of latter, as that mindset led to [[spoiler: temporary BreakingTheFellowship situation.]]
* BadassBookworm: Downplayed, as his physical skills are not extraordinary, but he can still use his cunning and intellect to defeat his enemies.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: To the point where others, especially his family, label him as AffablyEvil. Most view Shi-Yun as a nice person... as long as they are his allies.
* BigBad: For Han dynasty.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Towards his twin sister, the only family member that he doesn't hate, and Larina, who reminds him of his beloved sister.
* TheChosenOne: Mistaken as such by Order of Order and quite a few people. Shi-Yun is not and he is happy with that. Except he is. Shi-Yun is destined to destroy his family as 'The Rot Within'.
* CombatPragmatist: Making up for his mediocre sword-fighting skills.
* CoolSword: Sword of the Green Lizard. It can change its shape and form depending on the wielder (in Shi-Yun's case, it's a rapier). It glows green in full power and it enhances user's power. But it is not really powerful under the hands of mediocre wariror like this prince.
* DeadpanSnarker: Especially towards his family (except for his twin sister).
* TheDogBitesBack: After all the abuse and mistreatment he suffered from his family, Shi-Yun plots to destroy the dynasty, once and for all.
* TheGamblingAddict: His flaw that hinders Shi-Yun's progress when his party members don't. It mostly stems from overestimating his abilities a bit too much.
* GoodIsNotSoft: In fact, he is among the hardest of the party (next to Tarken).
* GuileHero: He relies on manipulation and trickery to achieve his goals.
* InTheBlood: His cold and outright monstrous pragmatism is ''the'' main trait of Han family.
* MasterOfNone: Shi-Yun can use swords, magic, bow and rogue-ish skills, but he is not really masterful at them, compared to other members of his family, who are specialized with at least one thing. Justified, because Shi-Yun was specifically raised to be this.
* MasterOfOneMagic: This prince has Space Deletion Nature magic (fancy word for teleporting).Otherwise... he is nothing.
* MasterSwordsman: Hilariously subverted. And people (who don't know him) think of Shi-Yun as this because of his CoolSword [[spoiler: which he actually stole.]]
* NotSoAboveItAll: He actually enjoys his party's silly antics.
* PrinceCharming: This one is seen as such by some...
** PrinceCharmless: ... while others believe that Shi-Yun is this. The reality is that he's in the middle.
* PunchClockHero: Sometimes Shi-Yun has to help someone because he needs cash or wants to establish a connection with a powerful figure. However, he will not take up jobs that recquire him to royally ruin innocents' lives.
* TeamMom: Pretty much, with Tarken being TeamDad.
* TechnicolorBlade: His rapier has a lizard marking that glows green.
* TokenGoodTeammate: In a party filled with people that are almost borderline evil, Shi-Yun is probably closest to a hero.
* WeirdnessMagnet: Shi-Yun's presence attracts all kinds of weirdness.
* WhatTheHellHero: While he is the most heroic person of his party, Shi-Yun makes some morally questionable decisions that his companions call him out on. It mostly has to do with actions against his family. As an example, when the fact that Shi-Yun hired mercenaries to kill his expedition crew is revealed, including his mentor, all of them chew him for this.
* XMeetsY: [[Anime/CodeGeass Lelouch]] meets [[Anime/{{Gintama}} Gintoki]] with added dose of [[LightNovel/{{Konosuba}} Kazuma]].

!Larina

Daughter of an esteemed leader of Dark Moonkin tribe, Larina first got to know Shi-Yun by trying to cut him with the chainsaw and see his intestines. After the prince (barely) persuaded him to spare his life, Larina expresses her wish to go on an adventure. The Prince agrees and they form a party of their own to embark on a journey.

* AntiHero: Of [[NominalHero Nominal]] variety. Larina is not driven by altruism or wish for justice, instead being motivated by her curiosity. That said, she does become better.
* BecomingTheMask: See HiddenDepths.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: She is eccentric even by the standards of her own people, but this Moonkin gets her job done... Usually.
* CloudCuckooLander: She stands out among a group of crazy loons.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Even Larina believes that Adranan are nothing more than delusional fanatics.
* HiddenDepths: Her MadScientist antics? They're all part of the mask that she adopted during her life in Dark Moonkin society.
* MadScientist: Her curiosity is endless, as she tries to experiment with anything, including people who are alive.
* MadScientistsBeautifulDaughter: Inverted. Her father is a normal one.

So, I was getting bored and I created some races for my fantasy series. So, let' get started:

!!Moonkin (general tropes):
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: Light Moonkin have yellow/orange skin tone, while Dark Moonkin are purple.
* BazaarOfTheBizarre: Moonkin sell some... interesting things that other races think of as unique.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Of course, since they are aliens. However, depending on whether they are Light or Dark Moonkin, they have different kinds of bizarre morality.
* {{Elfeminate}}: Subverted that males of both kinds of Moonkin have distinct masculine features.
* FantasticRacism: It's really, ''really'' subtle. They won't outright ignore or mock other races in front of their eyes, but Moonkins still hold them as unimportant compared to their own kind.
* MarySuetopia: Subverted really hard. Not everyone is happy in these communities and crime does exist.
* MulticulturalAlienPlanet: Moonkins have two main cultures: Light and Dark (and even then, they have subcultures that diffeentiate from each other). There are some minor ones, but they are outcasts and no one cares about them (poor sods).
* OneMansTrashIsAnothersTreasure: They show deeper appreciation towards things others might consider insignificant.
* OurElvesAreBetter: Downplayed. They have some advantage over other races, but other than that, they are still flawed in many ways. The most important thing, none of the Moonkin have unnaturally long lifespan (they can achieve it, but through special and complicated means).
* OurElvesAreDifferent: My intention. They have two variations: Light Moonkin and Dark Moonkin. More details below.
* ProudScholarRaceGuy: Dark Moonkin are of scientific variety, while Light Moonkin are of Mystic variety.
* SpaceElves: Their entire gist. They originated in the Moon and arrived at Althrenia (the planet where the series takes place) for colonization/research.

!Dark Moonkin:

Moonkin that habituated dark side of the Moon. Dark Moonkin of Althrenia are considered as heretics due to their... unconventional technology (plants). Their reason for the arrival is self-imposed exile, as "Uluna Sectum" (those who believe "Cold Rocks" (moon rocks, basically) should be the foundation of all technology) and "radicals" (those who constantly try to discover new forms of technology) began to fight among each other that resulted in war. This section will focus on Elthranian Dark Moonkin.

* AlienLunch: Dark Moonkin eat ''rocks'' that they harvest in their farms.
* BioPunk: Their technology level.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Value knowledge and science above all else. Which leads to some [[MadScientist being... unethical]]. Also, they discriminate those who are deemed "unintelligent". However, it is seen as a ''good'' thing by them.
* DarkIsNotEvil: This race is associated with darkness, but most of them are polite and amicable. However, that does not mean they are all saints in any measure.
* DoesNotLikeMagic: They have technology, instead. Also, they look down upon it since magic in this world cannot be achieved even if a person studies hard upon the absence of certain "birthrights".
* EmperorScientist: What their leader should strive to be.
* GeniusBruiser: What their soldiers end up being. In fact, becoming this is encouraged, believing strength is indeed important in preserving information.
* GlowingEyes: Dark Moonkin have white glowing eyes.
* GreenThumb: These Dark Moonkin use plant lifeforms as their weapons. The reason why I don't say nature is because it's not actually nature. It's their ''tech'', believe it or not.
* TheLostWoods: They reside in here after arriving to a planet. The main thing, however, is that they built the whole forest by themselves.
* MadScientist: Race with most insane scientists, considering their culture. All of them are different, but all of them ''worship'' logic and theory, hating magic even more than their contemporaries. They formed a group called Ardanan (Harbingers of Balance).
* NatureIsNotNice: Due to harsh experience with Althrenia's environment, these are the ones who are the most wary of it, seeking to control it through research and experimentation.
* NatureLover: Dark Moonkin stereotype conceived by Althrenians due to the misconception that these aliens use nature as their weapon. It's subverted, as seen above.
* OrganicTechnology: Unlike contemporary examples, however, they use plant lifeforms (artificial ones, anyways) as basis for their technology.
* SuperSoldier: ''Lundara'' (ascendant soldiers in their language) exist, but they are very few of them in the army. Each "mara" (think corporations. And it's probably not that [[VideoGame/ShinMegamiTensei Mara]]. Probably.) have different variations of Lundara.
* TronLines: All of them have it by birth. The more knowledge they gain, the more lines they have on their bodies.

!Light Moonkin:

Moonkin that habituated light side of the Moon. These ones worship Sun as their deity, and Light Moonkin have a "mission" to claim every land blessed with the light of the Sun, since they themselves are the chosen race of it. That's "conquer the solar system because we are TheChosenMany" wrapped around in pretty words.


* BewareTheSillyOnes: They are fun-loving race who love their booze, sex and smiling above all else (except for their beloved Sun), but Light Moonkin have a specific goal to conquer Althrenia and convert everyone to their philosophy, through brainwashing if necessary.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: They worship Sun and want to spread happiness all over the solar system ("give blessing of the Sun", as they say). Their morality is determined on how much you worship the Sun (in other words, being happy).
** To put it in perspective... Light Moonkin really glorify sex (....yeah. It is a comedy series, after all), since it is an act of showing ultimate form of happiness and an act of cleansing their soul. When a rape is committed, everyone blames the victim for ''not'' enjoying sex and are considered as a criminal. Even ''refusing'' sex is considered rude, unless one has a really good reason not to have it (and, for them, consent doesn't count).
** However, the above mentioned example happens quite rarely, as most Light Moonkin do not object of having sex with anyone, and in fact, ''greatly'' enjoy it. So, the idea of "suffering from rape" to them is pretty ''alien''. They view those who don't enjoy indiscriminate sex the same way humans view TheMentallyDisturbed.
* CrystalSpiresAndTogas: The closest they can be to this trope without blatantly becoming ScienceFiction.
* CulturalPosturing: While they are not being condescending about it (since they view annoying people as a sin), Light Moonkin view their culture and philosophy as flawless and offer other people to worship the Sun alongside them, since it will be good for them.
* DissonantSerenity: Light Moonkins wage war with smiles and serenity seen in no other races. Their warriors generally have a warm smile as they butcher everything which doesn't surrender.
* ThePowerOfTheSun: Firm believers of it. In fact, their biology is also powered by Sun (but it's due to modification rather than inherent biological trait).
* ScaryDogmaticAliens: Religious/Philosophical Fundamentalist one. However, it is not really a straight example, as they are not "single-minded" in their goal of conquering solar system. And they can at least be negotiated.
* SolarPunk: Light Moonkin power their tech with the energy of the Sun.

!!Seabrethren

Walking marine life people, who established nomadic sea empire and earn shit-tons of money by sea trading (to be more precise, most countries need to go through Langar-Ulast (aforementioned sea empire) to trade properly. But that is history, since the empire fell due to the fact that most countries were fed up with the fact that they had to pay for just crossing the sea and formed an alliance seen in no other occasion to wage war on it. Now... seabrethren are just nomad/pirates. Most of them have let go of their past, but, of course, there are always those who clamor the return of the Langar-Ulast, no matter how futile it is (crazier ones claim that the ''whole'' Althrenia is this, since, according to their logic, the world is composed mostly of seas, therefore they must rule).

* ArchEnemy: Guardians of the Water, which are basically sea police.
* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: Seabrethren, before and now, can become a leader through showing physical prowess. It's precisely this mentality that quickened the destruction of Langar-Ulast, as well as hinder the reconstruction of their sea empire. Because they value physical strength over administrative competence and intellect, Seabrethren constantly fail to achieve any meaningful victory.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: You can often figure out who the strong guy is by looking at their uren (sea creature that is essentially moving coral) tiaras. The fancier it is (i.e. higher rank), stronger they are.
* {{Beastmaster}}: The ones they call "Sea Speakers" can control marine lifeform. Of course, they're near useless at the surface.
* EndOfAnAge: Fall of Langar-Ulast is this for all Seabrethren. And they are not forming any type of unified government any time soon, since most of them are pirates, while those who are not have become a diaspora of other countries.[[note]] Republic of Seabrethren is technically a goverment, but it is a highly dysfunctional one. In fact, it's closer to anarchistic wasteland (wastesea?) than a democratic republic.[[/note]]
* FantasyCounterpartCulture: They are similar to Mongols... except on sea
* OceanPunk: Technology level of Seabrethren. Also, Seabrethren after the fall of the empire are basically pirates as they have lost too many things to rebuild their empire.
* OurOrcsAreDifferent: Althrenia's equivalent of orcs (Blizzard orc,to be more precise). Granted, this was not my intention.
* PettingZooPeople: They are humanoid marine lifeforms. They can also be mix-and-matched (for example, half-crab half-shark man).

Current dynasty of Calmarren that overthrew the previous dynasty. Its founder, Han Kang-San, used to be a general that was loyal to the royal family, until they became corrupt. Tired of the incompetence, corruption and plight of ordinary people, he led his army against the palace and became the next king. And from that day on, Han Dynasty still rules Calmarren. Han family uses Nature magic ever since Kang-San's granddaughter, Han Yi-Na, discovered the prophecy of 'The Rot That Will Destroy The Whole'. They use it to root out the potential 'Rot of Within', a person who will destroy their family and the whole kingdom. This dynasty is prepared to kill hundreds to save millions.
