The game was initially slated for a 2015 release, but the development team came up with so many ideas that they decided to delay it to 2016 to make it the best game it could possibly be. Then the game was delayed yet again until 2017 so the game could be released both for Wii U and Nintendo NX. Sadly, that second delay cost the game its status as a MilestoneCelebration of the series' [[VideoGameLongRunners 30 year mark]].
