*** Sadly, Christopher Lee passed away on June 7, 2015. According to Beagle's [[http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2015/06/christopher-lee-obituary-peter-s-beagle obituary for Lee]], Lee had given his blessing for an adaptation to be made after his death. ---->'''Lee''': ...if, by the time you come to make your live-action version of your movie, I have passed on, do not let it concern you. [[ActorAllusion I have risen from the dead several times]]. I know how itís done.

* CreatorBacklash: Beagle doesn't ''dislike'' the book. He has been frank that he found it to be the most difficult book to write of any in his career. ** He's also very intimidated by its success and knows that he'll never get it ''quite'' that right again.

** Creator/ChristopherLee also re-dubbed his part in [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_xJtc6Z-jI German]]. CrowningMomentofAwesome for him, since German is a pretty difficult language, grammar and pronunciation wise.

Comments Beagle made at SDCC 2006 and the new 2015 release of the film on DVD clarify that he ceased considering it a "lesser work" decades ago. He still considers it to have been a creatively taxing on. As far as Christopher Lee as live action Haggard goes, even before the performer's passing, he made it clear multiple times that neither his agent nore himself were never approached by the right's holders. He merely let it be known that -if- it happened, he'd indeed be interested, but they never approached him, despite spuriously listing him on their website as cast.
* CreatorBacklash: Beagle doesn't ''dislike'' the book. He's just puzzled as to why people love it, considering it one of his lesser works.

* DevelopmentHell: A live action film adaption has been in development since 2005. So far it's lacking funding, there's no finished script and the only confirmed cast member is Creator/ChristopherLee. Word is that the rights to the book are in the hands of a lesser director in Germany, and will once again be in possession of Beagle's company in 2015, at which time the chance of a movie happening may be bigger.

* PromotedFanboy: Christopher Lee was a huge fan of the book, to the point of bringing his own copy of the book to his recording and pointing out lines that he felt had to stay in the story.

* HeyItsThatVoice: Rene Auberjonois (Clayton from ''Benson'' and Odo from ''Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine''), JeffBridges, Creator/AngelaLansbury, Alan Arkin, Tammy Grimes, and good ol' ChristopherLee. Also Mia Farrow, Paul Frees and Robert Klein. Pretty much an all-star cast.
