Added DiffLines:

* AuthorAvatar: Beagle has stated frequently in interviews that the butterfly who constantly quotes song lyrics is supposed to be him. In a meta-sense, he explains that he, the author, needed a reason for the Unicorn to start her quest, therefore he inserted himself in the form of the butterfly to tell the story of the Red Bull that the unicorn could not have otherwise learned. In the film adaptation, it even has a scruffy beard resembling Peter's own at the time he wrote the book.

* DoingItForTheArt: Creator/JeffBridges apparently volunteered to do the voice of Lir for free.
* LoadsAndLoadsOfRoles: Paul Frees voices Haggard's initial court magician, the cat in the castle, the amorous tree and a handful of additional voices.

** A live-action remake has been in DevelopmentHell since 2005. Christopher Lee for a long time had expressed interest in reprising his role as King Haggard. Shortly before his death in 2015, he had given his blessing for them to cast someone else.

* DevelopmentHell: A live action film adaption has been in development since 2005. So far it's lacking funding, there's no finished script. Word is that the rights to the book are in the hands of a lesser director in Germany, and will once again be in possession of Beagle's company in 2015, at which time the chance of a movie happening may be bigger.
** WordOfGod says the project was never really going anywhere to begin with, and Lee was never really on board, just talked with.
*** Sadly, Christopher Lee passed away on June 7, 2015. According to Beagle's [[http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2015/06/christopher-lee-obituary-peter-s-beagle obituary for Lee]], Lee had given his blessing for an adaptation to be made after his death.
---->'''Christopher Lee''': ...if, by the time you come to make your live-action version of your movie, I have passed on, do not let it concern you. [[ActorAllusion I have risen from the dead several times]]. I know how itís done.
* PromotedFanboy: Christopher Lee was a huge fan of the book, to the point of bringing his own copy of the book to his recording and pointing out lines that he felt had to stay in the story.

* ThrowItIn: The cat's pirate voice was ad-libbed by his voice actor who was having fun with all sorts of accents to give the cat, and everyone loved the stereotypical Long John Silver voice that they just ''had'' to go with it. They gave the cat an eyepatch and peg leg to match.
** "Have a taco" came about when Beagle was writing very late at night, when you start writing all sorts of strange things. However, he loved the line so much he had to leave it in, AnachronismStew be damned.

* CreatorBacklash: Beagle doesn't ''dislike'' the book. He has been frank that he found it to be the most difficult book to write of any in his career. On the contrary, he's actually intimidated by its success and knows that he'll never get it ''quite'' that right again.

* SelfAdaptation: Peter S. Beagle wrote the script for the [[WesternAnimation/TheLastUnicorn animated movie adaptation]] of his novel ''Literature/TheLastUnicorn''. Due to a notorious case of "Hollywood accounting," his share of the profits was much smaller than would seem fair.

* HeyItsThatVoice: Rene Auberjonois (Clayton from ''Benson'' and Odo from ''Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine''), JeffBridges, Creator/AngelaLansbury, Alan Arkin, Tammy Grimes, and good ol' Creator/ChristopherLee. Also Mia Farrow, Paul Frees and Robert Klein. Pretty much an all-star cast.
** Creator/ChristopherLee also re-dubbed his part in [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_xJtc6Z-jI German]]. CrowningMomentofAwesome for him, since German is a pretty difficult language, grammar and pronunciation wise.
** Mommy Fortuna's assistant, Ruhk, is played by [[Film/TheBurbs one of the Klopeks]], or, perhaps more recognizably, [[WesternAnimation/TheHobbit Gollum]].
