* WhatMightHaveBeen: Very early in development, WordOfGod [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXZaOGd3ucU mentioned]] ''three'' factions: Republic, Sith Empire, and Underworld[[note]]The Smuggler and Bounty Hunter classes have barely any connection to their supposed factions even in the final game, they just do mercenary work for them[[/note]]. And before that, a developer said that they were going to have Voss Mystics as the third faction, so that's two factions that didn't pan out.

*** ''Knights of the Fallen Empire'' eventually introduced killing companions for real, but it was obly made possible by allowing users to switch any companion's combat role at any time and increasing their overall number, so that using a few hated ones no longer affected the gameplay.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** According to WordOfGod, there [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXZaOGd3ucU were originally going to be]] ''three'' factions: Republic, Sith Empire, and Underworld[[note]]The Smuggler and Bounty Hunter classes have barely any connection to their supposed factions even in the final game, they just do mercenary work for them[[/note]]. And before that, a developer said that they were going to have Voss Mystics as the third faction, so that's two factions that didn't pan out. They are focusing on creating more content for the iconic Republic and Empire classes, but have left open the idea of adding classes post-release.
** Originally, it was going to be possible for players to ''permanently'' lose their companions. Due to the complaints from testers who figured it would be a case of LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt (and assuming that paying players would make the same error in judgement), this feature was removed, as the goal of the game is to "[[RuleOfFun be fun]]" first and foremost.
*** Eventually made real with the new companion system in ''Knights of the Fallen Empire''; in Chapter I, you obtain Darth Marr as a companion [[spoiler: and he's killed attempting to oppose Valkorion. His Force ghost later appears in cutscenes to show that he's really dead.]]
*** For any given player and character class, there will probably be at least one companion that they'd ''like'' to get rid of, if only that were an option.
*** Since ''Knights of the Fallen Empire'', players who have a vehement dislike for [[spoiler: Kaliyo, Aric, Tanno Vik, Xalek, Broonmark, Rusk, Skadge, Senya, Koth, SCORPIO, Vette, Torian and/or Quinn]] will get their wish. Whether or not this will carry over to certain other companions later on down the line (especially those with hatedoms) remains to be seen.

Reduced develoment resources left that original plan unsustainable and only one of the planned planets - Makeb - was featured in the finished expansion, with only a shared faction story and no unique class stuff. Some of the other planned planets such as Rakata Prime, Yavin IV and Ziost were eventually added using resources developed way back in the game's first year, but featuring a completely different story, while other planned planets such as Varl, Bothawui and Sleheyron were scrapped altogether.
