** For the Creator/DCComics special, the show's staff asked Creator/MarkHamill to appear as SelfDemonstrating/TheJoker, but since Hamill had retired from the role following VideoGame/BatmanArkhamCity (At the time, he would later return for VideoGame/BatmanArkhamKnight, WesternAnimation/BatmanTheKillingJoke and WesternAnimation/JusticeLeagueAction) he turned them down. As a result, Joker is TheVoiceless and his one joke doesn't involve him talking.

Casting Gag is now a regular trope.

* CastingGag: Many, many voices are brought on just for the gag. For example, Creator/CreeSummer voicing Penny in an WesternAnimation/InspectorGadget parody, Soleil Moon-Frye voicing Series/PunkyBrewster in "No Need for Glomer", Dana Snyder portrays Master Shake as a critic of the Robot Chicken show, and the late Robert Culp reviving his character Bill Maxwell for a Series/TheGreatestAmericanHero parody.
-->Master Shake: People watch this. On TV!
** And one of the greatest--Creator/MarkHamill coming on to do SelfDemonstrating/TheJoker for "The Arkham Redemption".
** Joining in on that greatness is Creator/PatrickStewart reprising the role of Gurney Halleck from Film/Dune, noting how much more awesome and practical riding Dune Buggies are compared to the spice worms. This is actually a double Casting Gag, since it's likely also a reference to the infamous dune buggy scene in Film/StarTrekNemesis.
** A sketch about a musical starring Franchise/TheAvengers has none other than Avengers co-creator Creator/StanLee lend his voice and likeness to the piano player.
** Billy Dee Williams regularly reprises his role as Lando Calrissian for the Star Wars skits. Carrie Fisher (Leia), Mark Hamil (Luke), Anthony Daniels (C-3P0), and Ahmed Best (Jar Jar) also reprised their roles for the odd sketch.

* ScrewedByTheLawyers: Due to the extra length nature of the Star Wars specials, the show's creators need permission of the property holders whenever they want to make one. George Lucas, a fan of the show, gave the show his blessing without any issues. However, things became much more complicated when Lucas sold the Star Wars franchise to Disney, as now instead of needing to get permission of one man, the show now needs the permission of a rival company. Not helping matters is the fact that Disney are seemingly not fans of Star Wars parodies, with them shelving Star Wars Detours, a child friendly Star Wars parody show also created by Seth Green, before it could be released. The show is free to continue making short sketches of Star Wars but the chances of a fourth full length special is slim to none.
