* ExecutiveMeddling: There are conflicting stories about which one came first, but the gist of it is the fact that one of the Niers (most likely father Nier) was created to appeal more to one of the markets (japan and the west). This seems to have paid off; while some people prefer brother Nier for various reasons, father Nier is much more popular with western fans of the game due to a father-daughter story being perceived as more primal and powerful and the relative scarcity of playing as an older protagonist in JRPG's, making this a case of TropesAreNotBad.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: At one point a PlaystationVita version of the game was in development that would have combined both the ''Replicant'' and ''Gestalt'' versions into a single game, but was cancelled because Square wanted to focus more development time and effort towards ''VideoGame/DragonQuestX''.

* HeyItsThatVoice: ''Gestalt'' might as well be called ''Darker VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia''. Devola/Popola being Estelle, Kaine being Gauche, Nier being Duke, and Emil being Karol, oh, and Weiss is Cumore. Another way to look at it: [[VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss Largo (Nier) and Dist (Weiss) having a hilarious running commentary.]]
** Oh dear God, [[VideoGame/DynastyWarriors Lu Bu]] is a PapaWolf, with a [[VideoGame/BlazBlue GIGANTIC TAGER]]!
** Grimoire Noir is voiced by Creator/FumihikoTachiki, better known as [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Kenpachi]].
*** In the English dub, he's voiced by Creator/DCDouglas, who's known primarily for [[Franchise/ResidentEvil Wesker.]]
** Yonah is [[VideoGame/TheWorldEndsWithYou Shiki Misaki]].
** Kaine cusses just about as much as a [[VideoGame/SaintsRowTheThird Saint.]]
** [[Main/InsistentTerminology Grimoire Weiss]] apparently became a [[Manga/{{Bleach}} white haired Shinigami Captain]] after his [[spoiler:HeroicSacrifice]].
** Jakob and Gideon are voiced by Creator/YuriLowenthal, With the latter who managed to be even crazier than [[VideoGame/SoulNomadAndTheWorldEaters Gig]].
