* ActorAllusion: At one point, Alan Eppes appears to have been involved in [[WellIntentionedExtremist an act of civil disobedience gone horribly wrong]] as a younger man. [[spoiler:He wasn't]], but actor Creator/JuddHirsch played a similar role in Sidney Lumet's ''Film/RunningOnEmpty''.
** At the end of "Blackout", Alan turns on the television, saying late night is when they play "the classics", and the theme for ''Series/{{Taxi}}'' starts up.
** When it is discovered that Larry's been living in the Steam Tunnels, Mildred mentions playing ''Dungeons and Dragons'' there. Creator/PeterMacNicol portrayed the male lead of the ''Film/{{Dragonslayer}}'' movie.
** A possibly unintentional one occurs with guest star Creator/ArminShimerman, whose character is accused of taking a bribe and indignantly replies that his integrity would never be for sale. Shimerman is best known as Quark of ''Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine'', a character from a species whose [[PlanetOfHats hat]] is pursuit of profit above all else.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Speaking after cancellation, producer Creator/TonyScott said that his dream story for the show was an episode where "everything fell into the margin of error that Charlie always supplied." Scott explained that in giving his mathematical solution, Charlie would always leave a margin of error, no matter how small, saying things like "there is a 99.8 percent probability." The proposed episode would have the ultimate solution fall into the 0.2% probability, thus leaving it to actual police work to solve. It never went anywhere, however.
