Some that made it to concept art feature mythological inspirations such as: Abbadon (Bible), Horus (Egypt), Cikap-kamuy (Ainu), a basilisk (Europe), a centaur (Greece), a griffon (Greece), a manticore (Persia), an apsara (India), and a qilin (China). There were also some without confirmed mythological inspirations, such as a pig, a sheep, and a trio of crustacean brothers.

** Some very early concept art depicted Pantheons as Reploids who were brainwashed by a face-hugging helmet.

*** The original [[VideoGame/MegaManX X]] himself was going to be the BigBad, and not just some copy. Presumably after having to deal with the Maverick uprising all by himself for over a hundred years, he would have ''snapped'' and JumpedOffTheSlipperySlope in the name of protecting humans. The BigBad being a copy instead was ''literally'' a last month decision, and done because it was felt X being a canon RonTheDeathEater wouldn't sit well with the kids who played the ''X'' series games where he was the hero. In the final product, the original does mention that [[ItGetsEasier he came close]] [[HeWhoFightsMonsters to losing himself]] in the time between series, but never actually went the FallenHero route and instead [[AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence took himself out of commission]] to prevent it from happening (as well as [[SealedEvilInACan deal with the Dark Elf]]), necessitating the creation of Copy X.
*** Ciel was originally drafted as a cyborg.
*** Ciel had designs for a player character role, specifically as a Cyber-Elf-using mage-type character.
*** "Harpuia" was originally meant to be the name of the character's ''swords''.
** ''[[VideoGame/MegaManZero2 Zero 2]]'':
*** A bat-like OneWingedAngel form [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/megaman/images/2/23/Armedphenomenonphantom.jpg was planned for Phantom]] to match the other three Guardians', although considering that [[spoiler:Phantom had already been {{killed off|Real}}]], it may have simply been drawn on a whim. [[spoiler:Despite being encountered as a BonusBoss in Cyberspace in the third game, this form never surfaces there either.]]
*** How the Dark Elf came to be: During early conceptions (as mentioned in ''Official Complete Works''), the Maverick Virus' influence overwhelmed the Mother Elf, causing her to turn "dark", as opposed to Weil altering her programming.

** ''[[VideoGame/MegaManZero3 Zero 3]]'':
*** Young, middle-aged, and elderly (i.e. the final version) designs were drafted for Weil. The young version had a MiniMecha while the middle-aged version had a hairstyle resembling Dr. Wily's.
*** Omega's second form would have been much more active (for example, actually using its {{BFS}}) if not for GBA's graphics limitations.
*** The series was originally meant to end with the third game, with Dark Elf now free, [[spoiler:X finally retiring into Cyberspace]], and Omega being destroyed for good. Thankfully, they changed the PostScriptSeason that is ''Zero 4'' into an epic GrandFinale (though with some {{Fridge Logic}}s here and there).
*** Volteel Biblio's design [[RefittedForSequel is adapted from an older design for a electric eel boss]].
*** Similar to the above trivia about Copy X, Omega was intended to be [[spoiler:the original Zero BrainwashedAndCrazy, and TheReveal would be that, instead of being in an imitation body, you yourself were an imitation of him, a sort of "Copy Zero"]]. This was changed after the ExecutiveMeddling that gave birth to ''VideoGame/MegaManX6'', since Zero's sudden revival would have turned this into a plot hole.

* PostScriptSeason: The series was [[TrilogyCreep meant to end]] with ''[[VideoGame/MegaManZero3 Zero 3]]'', as evidenced by [[spoiler:resolving the Dark Elf storyline, [[PassingTheTorch giving X his eternal rest]], [[BookEnds bookending with the lab ruins]], etc.]] And [[WordOfGod developer interviews]]. Of course, we got ''[[VideoGame/MegaManZero4 Zero 4]]'', which turned a PostScriptSeason into a proper GrandFinale. [[spoiler:Strangely, the fates of the three living Guardians after Omega's death were completely ignored until the ''Zero Complete Works'', which says they died in Omega's explosive death throes. [[SequelNonEntity The fourth game doesn't so much as mention them.]]]]
* UrbanLegendOfZelda: It's theorized that Dr. Weil was originally going to be Dr. Wily, but the continuation of the ''Mega Man X'' series cancelled that in the event that the subplot of Wily being Zero's creator got resolved there. This is supported by their similar sounding names, Weil's knowledge on [[BlackBox Zero's design]], and the implication that Dr. Wily was still alive throughout the ''X'' games (particularly in ''VideoGame/MegaManX5'', the [[SeriesFauxnale original]] finale to the ''X'' series, though [[VideoGame/MegaManX2 Serges]] and [[VideoGame/MegaManX6 Isoc]] were also implied to be robotic avatars of Wily), but was never confronted.
