* OldShame: Animator Hisashi Egushi, a talented animator that has worked on ''Dragon Ball'' and series such as ''Anime/CowboyBebop'' and ''Anime/GhostInTheShell'' threw dirt at the movie and the director Creator/TadayoshiYamamuro in a now deleted twitter conversation with Masaki Sato. While he was promised he could do whatever he wanted without following the storyboard, he found his section being completely redrawn by Yamamuro. Both of them then called him a "BigFishInASmallPond" that sticks to one franchise without ever progressing.

* AbsenteeActor: Creator/LauraBailey usually voices Kid Trunks, but he does not appear in this movie. Averted with his Japanese voice; Creator/TakeshiKusao briefly voices Future Trunks for a flashback scene in the extended TV version, even if Present Trunks doesn't appear.
* CastingGag: The Latin American Spanish dub brings back nine voice actors who were in the ''Dragon Ball'' franchise, albeit in different roles:
