* ApprovalOfGod: Sorta kinda. While Kamiya primarily identifies with the first game (the only one he actually worked on), it's worth noting that he, apparently, use 4 as research material for VideoGame/Bayonetta.

* FountainOfExpies: Ironically Dante's gotten several expies over the years:
** Brandon "Beyond the Grave" Heat is more a silent variation minus the BFS and more emphasis on shooting.
** Gene. He also doubles as an expy to Kenshiro. Capcom would later take notes and base Nero partially off the former.
** Bayonetta and Jeanne are both GenderFlip examples. The two ladies are snarkers that both fight with swords and guns, taunt their enemies, and the latter even has white hair and dresses in red. The only differences is that they are witches that fight angels. They fight demons in the sequel.
** Kagura is another gender flip example that is very Stripperific and arguably an expy of the [=DMC3=] incarnation. A HalfHumanHybrid (Dhampyr in this case) that's young, snarky, taunts, and likes to show off. It fits the bill.
** Wonder Blue, Dante in SuperSentai form.

*** Manga/Bleach May Cry - The game, for having the same [[HeyItsThatVoice English voice actors and DamselInDistress plot.

* HeyItsThatVoice: Trish in the first game, was voiced by Sarah Lafleur. Western fans of Manga/SailorMoon might recognize her as Sailor Uranus.
** Lady is voiced by Creator/KariWahlgren in 3 and 4, Melissa Davis (Mai Kawasumi, Kurumi Momose) in the anime.
** Nero is voiced by Creator/JohnnyYongBosch, who also did the motion capture for the character.
*** RelationshipVoiceActor: And Kyrie is voiced by Creator/StephanieSheh.
*** When coupled with the plethora of Expy similar character traits, this led to the Fan Nicknames of Ichigo (Nero), Bankai (his Devil Trigger), Getsuga Tenshou (the shockwaves emitted upon DT-ing), Orihime (Kyrie), and Manga/Bleach May Cry (the game itself, as noted above).
** Vergil is voiced and mocapped by Daniel Southworth in 3, better known as the Quantum Ranger from Series/PowerRangersTimeForce. Quantum Power!
** Wait a sec... Mundus (Tony Daniels) is Gambit's second VA? And Wiseman and Jedite?! Considering the second, it's very fitting.
** It's CredoT.J. Rotolo, he's covered wars, ya know.
** Baal and Dagon are voiced by Creator/KyleHebert.
** Echidna is voiced by Creator/MaryElizabethMcGlynn, who previously voiced Nevan in 3. She also is the voice you hear announcing "Devil May Cry" at the title screen of 4.
** Sanctus is Liam O'Brien. You can hear faint traces of Gaara.
** Kyrie is Creator/StephanieSheh. Déjà vu, Expy right?

* DivorcedInstallment: Devil May Cry started as an early concept for VideoGame/ResidentEvil4 (one of four) which was eventually ditched because the ability to juggle zombies with guns wasn't particularly Narm scary.

* There were plans for two Devil May Cry games to be released on the PSP.
** A Remake of the first Devil May Cry was in order, it reached a far stage of development as screenshots and an official Box Art became available, however the game got silently killed as Capcom simply stopped talking about it, oddly enough the media didn’t pursue answers either; it got swiftly swept under the rug.
** A game with focus on The Legendary Dark Knight was planned, this one never went anywhere compared to the attempted portable remake though, it just got a tentative title of “Devil May Cry: Dance of Sparda” and nothing more.
* The first E3 trailer for the first Devil May Cry had a few differences compared to the Final Game, Dante had no long coat, it was just a red jacket; Sparda as his demon self was exactly the same as what ended up being Alastor.

* ScrewedByTheNetwork: Y'know how the sales figures for Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition will dictate whether or not there will be a Devil May Cry 5? You also know how Capcom released it very close to VideoGame/BatmanArkhamKnight?

* UsefulNotes/TheBechdelTest: Passed on two occasions. The first is in Devil May Cry 2 between Matier and Lucia when the latter is . The second time is during the last cutscene of Devil May Cry 4 as Trish and Lady are excited about their next job of demon hunting.

** Though its probably obvious to anyone that DMC4 was rushed due to the fact the second half is just the first half in reverse, but apparently Dante was going to have completely original levels with original bosses after a a bigger bad would be revealed. That would explain why the weapons Dante gets have nothing to do with the demons he kills to get them, which is a change from 3 where the Devil Arms were related to the demons Dante fought.

Added DiffLines:

*StealthPun: Devil Arms are powerful weapons created from demons, usually seen as melee weapons (with some exceptions like Pandora, Geryon, and the Doppleganger). Nero never uses any Devil Arms as his weapon like Dante, but it isn't necessary because he literally has a devil arm.
