Old Shame is In-Universe only

* OldShame: Common has recently shown regret for some of the homophobic slurs he used on his earlier albums (which, to be fair, were par for the course even in so-called "conscious" hip hop during the 90's). In fact, one of the main criticisms WebVideo/TheRapCritic and Creator/MarcMues have of ''Resurrection'' in their review for it is the album's large number of anti-gay slurs.

* ScrewedByTheLawyers: A Californian surf reggae band also named Common Sense sued the rapper for trademark infringement, forcing him to shorten his name to just "Common". * AcclaimedFlop: ''Resurrection'' and, to a slightly lesser extent, ''One Day It'll All Make Sense''. Both were acclaimed by critics but sold very modestly. Common finally found commercial success that matched his critical success with ''Like Water For Chocolate''.

* DuelingWorks: Subverted. Common's fellow Chicagoan emcee Twista [[SimilarlyNamedWorks also had an album called]] ''Resurrection'' released near-simultaneously at the same time as Common's ''Resurrection''. However, because Common's was released first, Twista's label chose not to release the latter's album nationally to avoid a marketing snafu. As a result, Twista's album was only sold locally in Chicago.
