Old Shame is In-Universe only

* CreatorBacklash: Based on the various author's notes presented with ''Kenny's La''bor''atory: Winning the Doorprise'', author Matthew Atanian would consider his earlier works (the ''John Smith'' series and the ''Spockman Adventures'' series, see "Artifact Publisher" above) something of an Old Shame, and his decision to revisit those earlier tales in this tale has a measure of shame as well.

** ''To Conquer the World'' uses a pattern of "tctw####.html." This was true even when the first few stories of this series were presented as ''Boy Scouts ½ in Japan'' side stories, hinting at ''Boy Scouts ½'' creator Matthew Atanian's hope (which has come to pass) that ''To Conquer the World'' would develop into a new spin-off.

*** Although at this time presented as a ''Boy Scouts ½ in Japan'' side story, the story ''To Conquer the World: The Cabin in the Woods – A Quest for Money and Power'' has a uniquely coded file name, using a pattern of "tctw####.html." WordOfGod indicates that this is his way of being prepared in case his hope that the story develops into a new SpinOff series comes to pass.

* BackFromTheDead: None of the characters in the series, but rather a meta-example that involves the website that hosts the stories. The website was originally built back on 1998 on Geocities. That website one day suddenly vanished with no trace, and fortunately the creator of the series had a back-up copy and was able to just recreate it at a new home on Tripod. Then, after the website had been minding its own business for years, Tripod decided to delete it for an unexplained and unrepealable violation. The website now has a new home on a service called Weebly. Alas, as the creator no longer had a full back-up of the website anymore, restoration has been a more gradual process leading to the later stories in the series being temporarily unavailable for reading.

* [[ArtifactTitle Artifact Publisher:]] All of the pages on the website have a colophon that is a stylized "JS," and most of those have this colophon accompanied by the name, "John Smith Publishing, Inkorporated". There is no evidence of anyone named John Smith bring involved with the writing or production of these stories, so who is this John Smith? The very first version of the first website to host ''Boy Scouts ½'' was actually the "John Smith Publishing, Inkorporated" website. ("Inkorporated" was an intentional misspelling, as there were no corporations actually involved.) This website hosted, in addition to ''Boy Scouts ½'', some of Matthew Atanian's earlier attempts at writing. The most prominent series initially was the ''John Smith'' series, following the [[Franchise/TheHitchhikersGuideToTheGalaxy Hitchhiker's Guide]] inspired exploits of an alien named (after a stay on Earth) John Smith. As ''John Smith'' fell by the wayside and ''Boy Scouts ½'' gained more momentum, the website was streamlined and rebranded as ''The Boy Scouts ½ Universe'' and material not related to ''Boy Scouts ½'' was dropped, but the John Smith colophon remained.

* EpisodeCodeNumber: If one looks at the file names of pages that host stories, patterns become evident. They are typically an eight character designation starting with an abbreviated series title followed by a number.
** The main series has stories designated by, "bs######.html." For example, ''part 1'' is, "bs000001.html," ''part 15'' is, "bs000015.html," and ''part 30'' is, "bs000030.html." The epilogue breaks this pattern, being, "bs-epilogue.html."
** The main series side stories have two part hyphenated file names, with the first half fitting this pattern and the second half being a shortened version of the story's title. For example, the seventh side story, ''Girls' Night Out, Guys' Night In'', has file name of, "bsside07-girlsguys.html."
** The ''Perspectives'' series uses a code of, "persp###.html." For example, the third story has a filename of, "persp003.html." The only ''Perspectives'' side story has a name of, "pside001.html." As of the [[{{ContinuityReboot}} reboot]], the stories use a new code of, "pv2-####.html," althouth the reboot's prologue has a similar exception to the epilogue of the main series, having a name of, "pv2-prologue.html."
** ''Kenny's La''bor''atory'' uses a code of, "bskenny#.html." This gives a clue to the fact that the story presented as the third one was actually written seventh, as it has a file name of, "bskenny7.html."
** The segments of the story ''Of Possible Alternatives,'' which was published as multiple parts, have file names patterned, "bs-opa-#.html." An exception is the "extra" part at the end, which was coded as, "bs-opa-extra.html."
** ''Boy Scouts ½ in Japan'' uses codes in the pattern of "bsjpn###.html." Side stories follow a pattern similar to the hyphenated codes of the main series side stories, although abandoning the eight character standard that had usually been at least in part maintained, with the first half being an ''eleven'' character "bsjpnside##." The second half is, like with the man series side stories, an abbreviated version of the title.
*** Although at this time presented as a ''Boy Scouts ½ in Japan'' side story, the story ''To Conquer the World: The Cabin in the Woods – A Quest for Money and Power'' has a uniquely coded file name, using a pattern of "tctw####.html" WordOfGod indicates that this is his way of being prepared in case his hope that the story develops into a new SpinOff series comes to pass.
