** It's safe to say that the success of the ''Film/TheHungerGames'' led to the book's green light.
** Inverted with the Creator/BoomStudios series ''Deathmatch'', which also follows premise of superheroes being forced to fight to death; it appeared soon after ''Avengers Arena'', and had been accused of being this for this series. Writer Paul Jenkins admitted he knows about ''Avengers Arena ''but hasn't read it.

Okay, but toning down. This was written by a previous user who basically used the page to bash the series. Running The Asylum is fans being hired and Dennis Hopeless was a writer before Marvel picked him up.

* RecycledScript: This series' RecycledPremise, with admitted ties to ''Battle Royale'' and ''Hunger Games'', but there is one other bit of recycling involving Nico Minoru. She undergoes a series of events which separates her from her friends and leaves her alone to face an extremely painful, protracted encounter. After not being seen for a time, she returns displaying more power than before and her staff has changed shape when she reunites with her fellow Runaway. Add in some plurals and we go from describing her overall character arc in ''Arena'', to her plot during {{Creator/Joss Whedon}}'s run with the ''Runaways''. Added points that in Arena, the Creator/JossWhedon style staff was ignored in favor of the original design, so it could be replaced with the new one.
* RunningTheAsylum:
** An odd example, though it does pervade the industry as a whole, it's rather pronounced here. Hopeless is a big fan of Arcade, and one of the most common complaints about ''Arena'' is . . . his portrayal of Arcade being rather MarySue. He drew particular ire after an interview claimed that in his take, Arcade has "already won."
** He also seems to have a bit of FanonDiscontinuity regarding Runaways, that is he's ignoring everything that happened after BrianKVaughan left the title, with sole exception being Chase getting his gauntlets back.

Restoring previuly cut entries, and moving a former YMMV entry to it\'s proper subpage.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Writer Dennis Hopeless said that he wanted all the Runaways along with some kids from the Jean Grey school for the book as well, however due to the already large size of the cast he backed off. Also, he wanted to use Kenji/Zero from Generation Hope so he attempted to either reverse the decision of killing him off or revive him in Arena (and then kill him again), both options were rejected. And before all that? This was just going to be an arc for a proposed Braddock Academy series.
