* HostilityOnTheSet: Following Creator/RayFisher's claims against Whedon in the wake of the imminent release of ''Film/ZackSnydersJusticeLeague'' in 2021, Creator/CharismaCarpenter [[https://twitter.com/AllCharisma/status/1359537746843365381 went public]] with long-rumored allegations surrounding her time on the show, saying that Creator/JossWhedon played favorites with actors on set and pit them against each other to win his approval, that she was overworked to the point where it caused her physical harm, and that the only reason she stayed on as long as she did was [[MoneyDearBoy for the steady paycheck]]. In particular, her pregnancy in the fourth season of ''Angel'' caused a lot of friction between her and Whedon (up to and including allegedly him demanding she get an abortion, something which he flatly denies), which ended with Cordelia being written out of the fifth season in a manner that left a lot of bad blood, not least because Carpenter only found out from the press. She was eventually brought back for "[[Recap/AngelS05E12YoureWelcome You're Welcome]]", [[spoiler:only for Cordelia to be KilledOffForReal after Whedon [[LyingCreator promised her he wouldn't do so]]]]. By her account, Carpenter was in tears when she realized how she was being written out of the show. Several other ''Buffy'' cast members [[https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/davidmack/buffy-angel-cordelia-charisma-carpenter-joss-whedon supported]] Carpenter's claims, with Creator/MichelleTrachtenberg saying that Whedon acted inappropriately behind the scenes (having had affairs with several Buffy actresses as he admitted during his divorce) and Creator/AmberBenson accusing him of creating a toxic work environment. Creator/DavidBoreanaz, Creator/JamesMarsters, Creator/JAugustRichards, Creator/AmyAcker, Creator/JulieBenz and Jonathan M. Woodward also backed up her claims. However other Whedon cast alumni and producers have disputed such claims which have all been denied by Whedon himself, notably David Fury, Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillon. Whedon has admitted he was very strict on set but that the cast were so young if he had not the production would have descended into a "cocktail party". Notably Whedon has stayed very friendly with numerous members of the cast such as Alysson Hannigan, Alexis Dennisof and J August Richards, the latter even inviting him to his wedding.
