* ''Manga/OuranHighSchoolHostClub'': Haruhi is a tomboy who dresses as she pleases and doesn't care if people mistake her for a boy. She's perfectly happy wearing the Ouran boy's uniform if that's what it takes to belong to the club. She's also blunt, pragmatic, and resolutely practical, as even her everyday clothes are obviously chosen primarily for practicality. On the girly side her hobbies include cooking, cleaning and sewing, she doesn't mind dressing up in feminine clothing and wigs when the occasion calls for it, and and she has a debilitating FearOfThunder. The anime gave her a distinctive dress over jeans weekend outfit to underline the two sides of her character.

** Played straight with Tomo. She's tomboyish for the most part, with her fondness of pranks and competition, her generally sporty fashion sense, and the vulgar remarks/jokes she occasionally makes, but she's also fairly concerned with her physical appearance, and she idolizes the very feminine [[Manga/LupinIII Fujiko Mine]]. She mostly drops the girliness by the third year, which coincides with her cutting her hair -- though by her own admission, that's due to her shifting focus to idolizing [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryoko_Hirosue Ryoko Hirosue]] (Music/AyumiHamasaki in the anime).

* In ''Manga/{{Aruosumente}}'', Lamia looks like a tomboy grown up, including the tomboyish twin braids, and is Rucetta's second-in-command, but when charged with taking care of Lante and Dante, she shows a motherly streak.
* Mikasa Ackerman from ''Manga/AttackOnTitan''. She is one of the best soldiers in the history of mankind fighting titans and is usually the one to save the boys. She is also insanely ripped and wears her hair short. However, it is stated by the mangaka that she feels insecure about her ripped build, and if Eren had not advised her to cut her hair short for safety reasons, she might have continued to wear her hair long. Her girly side also shows when she is wearing her casual clothes, which mostly consist of a long skirt and a blouse. As a child she was also shown having long hair, wearing girly clothes and the color pink.
* ''Anime/AttackerYou'': The main character You Hazuki is a dedicated PassionateSportsGirl with BoyishShortHair, boisterous, rebellious, very much a BigEater, has a fiery temper, and can stand up to a gang of delinquents. However, when she's head over heels for a handsome boy, she goes into full SmittenTeenageGirl mode.
* Matsuri of ''Manga/AyakashiTriangle'' is a [[GenderBender boy turned female]], and despite presenting himself as if he was always a girl, he retains his masculine mannerisms since he still identifies as a boy, has the same wardrobe outside of school, still reads boys' manga, and is often quite confrontational when it comes to protecting Suzu. On the other hand, [[RealMenWearPink Matsuri was never masculine in an entirely conventional way]], usually acting gentle and shy, happily does all the household chores for his grandpa (up to serving meals in an apron), and is very submissive to Suzu (emotionally and [[{{Uke}} sexually]]). Once he eventually expands his wardrobe as a girl, Matsuri's style is specifically described as "boyish", but still more feminine than you'd expect a guy to wear (including some very short denim shorts).

* Casca from ''Manga/{{Berserk}}''. Since she's a mercenary, her normal attire is men's clothes and armor (and also BoyishShortHair to match), but when the Hawks were promoted to nobility and were put in a different environment, Casca is seen wearing much more fanciful and feminine clothing. When Guts was teasing her (only after gawking at [[BeautifulAllAlong her very pleasing appearance]]), Casca truthfully said that she has no problem with wearing dresses, but it's just not practical for her to do so with her profession and living environment. [[spoiler: This comes up later when Casca is cured and Danan the elf queen puts her in a beautiful dress to meet Guts, Casca is awed but also reminds everyone that's “she's a merc” therefore unworthy of such radiance, Danan ignores Casca's meek protest.]]
* ''Manga/BlackLagoon'': Revy TheLadette smokes, drinks, cusses her mouth off, and gets a SlasherSmile when she goes GunsAkimbo. Though saying she’s completely masculine is simply untrue, Revy frequently [[LettingHerHairDown lets her hair down]], is good with children, looks pretty damn hot in a UsefulNotes/{{Qipao}} and she spends a whole arc in a skirt. A throw-away line in the dub also has her admit she watches Oprah. Lampshaded in the “The Magical Girl” omake where Revy in her usual trigger happy demeanour [[https://i.ytimg.com/vi/6GL0HsHMzYc/maxresdefault.jpg also wears a pink dress]] and acts like a GenkiGirl.
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'':
** Rukia Kuchiki is very boisterous and OneOfTheGuys, but she wears dresses and likes romance/dolls/etc.
** Also Arrancars Loly and Menoly. Loly is girly by appearance while tomboyish-looking Menoly can be passive and nonaggressive.
* In ''Manga/BloomIntoYou'', Koyomi is a girl who doesn't like "cute" things, which is why she doesn't wear the ribbon with her school uniform, and almost exclusively wears pants instead of skirts unless she's wearing the school uniform or feels the need to dress up (she wears a dress while meeting her favorite author, but is a bit uncomfortable). That said, she enjoys collecting stuffed animals, although she says it's because they aren't "cute."
* In ''Manga/{{Bokurano}}'', Maki Ano is fairly tomboyish, as she has short hair, wears boyish clothing, is a passionate {{Otaku}} for military hardware like her father, and even wishes she'd been born a boy. That said, in the days before her battle, which coincides with the birth of her younger brother, she [[GirlinessUpgrade starts acting more girly]], and her friend Komo ([[TomboyAndGirlyGirl the girly girl to Maki's tomboy]]) takes her out to buy clothes and visit a hair salon. Maki confesses that there's a possible FreudianExcuse behind her tomboyishness -- she loathes her neglectful and abusive biological mother and doesn't want to turn out like her, so she's afraid of letting herself act femininely.
-->'''Maki''': [[LampshadeHanging I guess the fact that I'm even thinking about this stuff just goes to show what a girl I am]].

* Megumi of ''Manga/CheekyAngel'' is a rather unapologetic tomboy, although that actually has to do with the fact that [[GenderBender she actually was once a boy who got transformed into a girl unwillingly by a genie]]. Compared to her best friend and SecretKeeper Miki, she's brash, has a very boyish speech pattern (down to using "[[UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns ore]]" to refer to herself), routinely threatens violence, and isn't afraid to dish it out, utterly despises how lovey-dovey other girls can get about potential romances and spends nearly every day trying to find a way to restore her gender. That said, she's actually adopted to being a girl rather well; her casual body language is very feminine, and unlike most other tomboys, she owns a large wardrobe of girly dresses and clothes and embraces wearing them rather than constantly complaining about being forced to otherwise. [[spoiler:This is all to probably hint at her "transformation" all being a mental trick; she was never a boy to begin with, and the genie only made her think that she was one to begin with.]]
* The character Tsugumi Higashijuujou from ''Anime/CyberTeamInAkihabara'' is by all accounts your typical rough and tumble female character who's heavily into sports, competition, and rough play, and is much louder than the other girls. She also comes from a heavily martial arts background, to which she is very adept and very proud of. However, she dreams of becoming an IdolSinger and has posters of a pop diva plastered all over her walls, and practically fangasmed at the idea of being on stage with the same pop diva as a result of winning a contest, even going so far as to have her imagination imagine a scenario where the pop diva loves the music SO much that she brings Tsugumi on as a duet partner for the shows. She also seems admittedly embarrassed to have anyone know about it.
* Sora in ''Anime/DigimonAdventure'' is the [[TomboyAndGirlyGirl Tomboy to Mimi's Girly Girl]]. However, her Digimon companion is pink, she has the crest of love and is definitely the TeamMom of the group. She gets a GirlinessUpgrade in the next series, taking up flower arranging and growing up to become a fashion designer.
* In ''[[Literature/DirtyPair Dirty Pair Flash]]'', Kei is typically shown as a tomboy, to contrast with her extremely girly partner Yuri. However, in the first episode she stops to look at a cute little pink purse, and when her partner catches her looking at it, immediately puts it back with an embarrassed scowl.
* ''Manga/DoctorSlump'': The main protagonist Arale Norimaki is mainly a super-strong, [[PersonOfMassDestruction destructive]] tomboy who loves monsters, fighting games, messing around. But she's also a sweet, [[TheDitz ditzy]], FriendToAllLivingThings, likes to dress up animals, and who doesn't mind girly things like flowers or jewels (she generally just loves everyone and everything). Also, a running gag is that she wants bigger breasts (despite being a robot) and in her manga resume, she mentions “feminine allure” as her main talent. She is the in-between in her group of friends, between tomboy Akane and girly Tsururin.
* ''Franchise/DragonBall'':
** While Videl wears a skirt over slacks when fighting, she seems quite comfortable in mini skirts and dresses, especially after starting to date Gohan. It's especially evident during her {{Tsundere}} high school days where at one point after acting like a hardass Gohan suggests she cut her hair, Videl immediately getting LuminescentBlush asks if it’s because he likes girls with short hair. Of course when Gohan just says it's more practical, Videl then yells at him flustered. And then the next day she's cut her hair short like he suggested.
** Gohan and Videl's daughter, Pan. There's her love of martial arts and boyish way of dressing, but when a certain [[Anime/DragonBallGT GT]] arc involved another's planet's marriage rituals, she said she admired the dress.
** Android 18 enjoys fighting, but she also loves shopping and dressing nice.
** GreenSkinnedSpaceBabe Cheelai from ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'' is a tomboy like Bulma and the others but she still wears pink and is very affectionate to Broly.
* Erza Scarlet from ''Manga/FairyTail'' is a masculine ActionGirl but she does enjoy feminine costumes ranging from fancy dresses to a bunny outfit.
* Winry Rockbell in ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'' is a tomboy who isn't afraid to get her hands dirty and has a deep interest and skill in mechanics, though she also sometimes displays more feminine traits.
* ''Manga/GakuenBabysitters'': Mrs. Kamitani, Taka and Hayato's mother, is one of the school's science teachers. She wears her hair short, wears darker clothes, [[LikeParentLikeChild and at times is just as abrasive with Hayato as he is with Taka]]. However, she also silently gushes over how cute Kotaro and Ryuu are watching the incubator, and is just as vehement as the other mothers about getting Ino a more fashionable swimsuit when she shows up to the beach in her school swimwear.
* In ''Manga/GunslingerGirl'', as each cyborg's handler selects their name and style of dress, their tomboyish side may be purely a facade.
** Rico not only has a GenderBlenderName, but she also wears boyish clothing; however, when off-duty she's ThePollyanna and particularly enjoyed getting to wear a PimpedOutDress for a mission involving an opera house.
** Pictured above: Triela practically wears this trope on her sleeve with the combination of a 3 - piece suit and GirlishPigtails. On a mission, [[NothingPersonal business comes first]], but off-duty, she collects teddy bears and serves as TeamMom toward Henrietta.
* Itsuki Myoudouin from ''Anime/HeartcatchPrettyCure'' is a StudentCouncilPresident who is into martial arts and is a {{Bifauxnen}} because she's taken interest in martial arts in order to take the place of her sickly brother Satsuki as the HeirToTheDojo, repressing her feminine interests such as {{Squee}}ing over cute things, to the point that it becomes a point why she's turned into a Desertrian by Cobraja. She makes sporadic reappearances later, developing that it's okay to be a tomboyish martial artist and liking cute things and being into fashion, they're not mutually exclusive... and she continues to develop from there after becoming a regular cast as Cure Sunshine.
* Manga/{{Hellsing}}: Seras is a tomboy as a kid and still retains these qualities as a young adult given that she chooses police work as her profession, and doesn’t take taunts or threats sitting down. However, she also goes from wearing pants (in her police uniform) to a mini skirt and thigh-high boots (as a half vampire) and can be a BadassInDistress sometimes as well as sporting an impressive bust and being a major MsFanservice.
* ''Manga/HighschoolOfTheDead'': Despite her family's wealth and her upbringing, [[NerdsAreSexy Saya]] isn't what you'd call ladylike. She tends to use strong language, [[BrutalHonesty is brutally honest]], and prefers to be in the thick of things rather than left out on the sidelines, as it makes her feel useless, as she admitted in Chapter 28. Which she later explained to Hirano in that same chapter as her reason for wanting to fight. At the same time, while she prefers to dress casually, she's just as comfortable in feminine wear, [[PinkMeansFeminine likes pink]], and beginning in Chapter 18, wears a ribbon around her left ankle as a fashion accessory.
* Masaki from ''Manga/IceRevolution'' is a Karate champion raised in a hyper-macho all-male environment who switches to the equally demanding sport of figure skating because it allows her to use her athleticism to express beauty.
* Princess Finé from ''Anime/IzettaTheLastWitch'', at least by 1940s standards. She isn't afraid to jump into action, get her hands dirty, and perform physical feats that many people would have considered too boisterous for a girl during that time period, but still wears dresses, likes sweets (particularly pies), and generally maintains a feminine appearance.
** This may also apply to Izetta, the titular White Witch who goes into battle and assists with the palace gardening by pulling out weeds but also wears the flashy dress when she accompanies Finé to a ball, and Bianca, the Captain of Finé's Royal Guard, who when not on duty is quite feminine. In episode 8, she wore a basic dress and loves stories of romance, particularly one legend about a Prince and a White Witch.
* Minami Asaoka from ''Anime/Jewelpet2009'' is the least girly out of the human girl trio, though she has the feminine pink cat Garnet as her partner and her bedroom is adorned in various shades of pink.
* Kido of ''Franchise/KagerouProject''. She's a boyish-looking and cool-acting "gang" leader who comes off as a bit scary and even refers to herself as "ore" - but she's actually a surprisingly shy, easily frightened girl who not-so-secretly loves cute things and even keeps a frilly skirt hidden somewhere. In the end, she turns out to be more of a TeamMom than the delinquent that she first looks.
* Ritsu Tainaka from ''Manga/KOn'' is typically a rather "lazy" girl when it comes to being feminine (she doesn't button up her jacket and she does and says things in a more "brash" way than a typical girl might) but she does fuss over her hair and is pretty good with her hands when it comes to things like sewing.
* Momo Ryuju from ''Manga/KaguyaSamaLoveIsWar'' has the sort of gruff and abbrasive personality that you'd expect from [[MafiaPrincess the daughter of a yakuza boss]], but it's shown at several points that she actually has some of the girliest interests out of the entire cast. Her EstablishingCharacterMoment has her bringing a teddy bear to school and a later shot of her bedroom during a group video chat shows that she not only has an even larger teddy bear in full view of her camera but that she also has curtains with pictures of cute little sheep on them.
* ''Anime/KillLaKill'': Ryuko Matoi is a tough {{Japanese Delinquent|s}} and a LadySwearsALot, but when Senketsu encourages her to wear clothes "cuter" than him, she responds she'll wear clothes that will "make [him] jealous". In [[http://safebooru.org//images/1355/b1aff6ad9b306db9774302eca366170227cb357f.jpg?1408875 illustration for Otakon Vegas 2015]], she wears a pink hairclip and is apparently good at grooming hair.
* ''VideoGame/LapisReLights'':
** Ashley of [=LiGHTS=] is explicitly training to become a knight, studying to become a witch to supplement her already considerable strength. In spite of this, she's a highly skilled seamstress who loves designing and making feminine outfits (but not for herself) and has a love of stuffed animals, to the point of having a large collection of self-made toys. She's quite ashamed of others knowing about this, however.
** Salsa of IV KLORE is fond of sports, refers to herself with male pronouns, and is generally very much a tomboy but has no issues donning a frilly dress and performing on stage with the rest of her much more traditionally feminine companions.
* ''Franchise/LoveLive'':
** Rin Hoshizora from ''Anime/LoveLive'' is the most athletic of the girls, excelling in a variety of sports (such as hurdling and football) and initially wanting to try out for the track team. That being said, she's [[TomboyAngst very insecure about her femininity]], no thanks to some nasty teasing every time she wore a skirt as a child. By [[ADayInTheLimelight Episode 5 of Season 2]], she overcomes this when her friends convince her that she's pretty and get her to wear a [[https://i.pinimg.com/564x/7c/af/63/7caf63da26667123b7b113f90750b8fc--leveon-bell-weddings.jpg very beautiful dress]] for a fashion show, and the end of the episode shows her wearing a skirt with her practice outfit, which she keeps from then on.
** ''Anime/LoveLiveSunshine'' has You Watanabe, who, like Rin, is a PassionateSportsGirl, excelling in high diving, weight training every morning, and aiming to be a ferry captain like her father, [[DaddysGirl who she greatly looks up to]]. Unlike Rin, she doesn't have any sort of complex regarding her feminine qualities, as she's Aqours' costume designer and is comfortable with wearing frilly dresses.
* ''Manga/LuckyStar'':
** Konata Izumi generally acts very tomboyish due to being [[RaisedByDudes primarily raised by her otaku father]], usually wears pants or shorts when not in her school uniform, and is [[OtakuSurrogate mainly into anime and games aimed at a male audience]]. However, she did once get hooked on ''[[Literature/MariaWatchesOverUs Marimite]]'' (which is a [[ShoujoDemographic shoujo]] series) and can act the part of a stereotypical ladylike {{Ojou}} fairly well.
** Kagami Hiiragi is a tough and intimidating tomboy who is bad with domestic work, but has some girlish quirks like a more shy and romantic side and wearing her long hair in GirlishPigtails. She also likes sweets and [[WeightWoe worries a lot about her weight]].
* ''Franchise/LyricalNanoha'':
** Vita was introduced in ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaAs'' as an extremely angry, cynical, {{immortal|ity}} [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld little girl]] of a knight [[DropTheHammer who fights with a big hammer]]. Oh, and one of her most treasured possessions is a bunny plushie that her master Hayate bought for her.
** ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaStrikers'' gave us Subaru, a [[SuperStrength super strong]] martial artist ShortTank who works in the EmergencyServices section of the [[TheFederation Administration Bureau]] and who also absolutely {{Squee}}s at the prospect of getting [[SweetTooth ice cream]].
* ''Manga/MakenKi'': Azuki is known for [[CharlesAtlasSuperpower her immense strength]], excelling in martial arts, and is recognized as an '''A rank''' [[FullContactMagic Element user]]; which makes her one of the strongest girls at Tenbi Academy, according to Chapter 10 of the manga. But, unbeknownst to her friends, she has a soft spot for stuffed animals and secretly enjoys working at the Macaroon maid cafe, where she uses a girlish flirt pose to greet customers, as shown in Chapter 5. Which is why she told Takeru that if he ever breathed a word about it, she'd kill him.
* This trope is explicitly discussed and subverted in ''Manga/MonthlyGirlsNozakiKun'' Chapter 42. Yuu Kashima is an AmbiguouslyBi {{Bifauxnen}} with a GenderBlenderName, but after Mikoshiba discusses how common it is for tomboys in manga to secretly have feminine sides, he begins to wonder if Yuu has one as well. The next scene shows that Yuu has lost her feminine voice due to a cold, and is actively ''celebrating'' the loss by wearing a pair of pants to school.
* ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'':
** Sakura is loud, abrasive, and generally tomboyish, but as shown in Part I, she's also a ''huge'' romantic who is very conscious about her social standing, leading to her trying to put on a more girly pretense in front of [[SingleTargetSexuality Sasuke]].
** Tenten, despite her tomboyish demeanour, has also shown a feminine side, giggling and commenting to herself that Sasuke Uchiha is cute when he refused to tell his name to Neji. In the anime, she also commented to herself that the prince was just her type
** Kushina may have been a rough-housing terror in her youth, but Minato's [[ThroughHisStomach favorite food]] was [[SupremeChef her home cooking]]. The {{canon}} movie ''[[Anime/TheLastNarutoTheMovie The Last]]'' reveals that [[TextileWorkIsFeminine she also enjoyed knitting scarves]]. Interestingly, [[LikeParentLikeSpouse she shares these two traits]] with Naruto's future wife Hinata.
* ''Anime/OnePiece'':
** Nami drinks and swears like a sailor, has a fiery temper, is greedy for money, and can knock a man flat with one punch. However Nami also loves clothes shopping, adores cutes things, [[FriendToAllChildren has a soft spot for children]], is terrified of bugs and spiders, is noticeably pleased whenever a dashing man rescues her from peril, and [[SupremeChef is a wonderful cook]] (though she charges for every meal). At one point Nami is put in a wedding dress and she can't help but gush over it, despite being '''very''' opposed to getting married.
** Likewise Nami's adoptive mother Bellemere {{smok|ingIsCool}}ed like a chimney and had a near buzzcut. Bellemere also flirted with Genzo outside her house, was a wonderful cook, grew Tangerines, and was extremely motherly.
** Vivi is a TomboyPrincess spending a lot of her time scrapping in the streets, but she can also be very girly and outright ditzy at certain points. Funnily enough, Nami dresses more womanly than Vivi, but when Vivi does dress regally she looks radiant.
** Tashigi is a skilled and strong female marine who's obsessed with swords and swordplay. She also wears pink, likes children, and gets extremely flustered and shy about her curvaceous body.
* In ''Manga/OuranHighSchoolHostClub'', Haruhi is a tomboy who dresses as she pleases and doesn't care if people mistake her for a boy. She's perfectly happy wearing the Ouran boy's uniform if that's what it takes to belong to the club. She's also blunt, pragmatic, and resolutely practical, and her clothing choices out of school reflect this feminine-but-practical aesthetic. On the girly side, her hobbies include cooking and sewing and she doesn't mind dressing up in feminine clothes when the situation requires it.
* Alice from ''Manga/PandoraHearts''. She is tough and wild, eats meat, and can beat up her manservant, Oz, because she is the chain B-rabbit, but despite her tomboyish demeanor, she does not mind wearing elaborate dresses much.
* ''[[Anime/{{Patlabor}} Patlabor: The Mobile Police]]'': Takeo Kumagami is {{bifauxnen}} and business-like in appearance and excels in Judo. In fact, she's so good at it, that no one in division 2 can beat her; including Otah, who's nearly twice her body weight. But she dresses femininely whenever she's off duty and [[NotSoStoic is afraid of dark places, ghost]], and especially [[spoiler: rats]]. She's even prone to {{fainting}} [[Funny/{{Patlabor}} when sufficiently frightened.]]
* ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'':
** Misty is a tomboy with a temper to match and is the TropeCodifier for {{Shorttank}}. However, she occasionally displays a fondness for romantic scenarios, and if she spots one [[ShipperOnDeck she will cheerfully and heartily gush over it]] to the disgust of Ash and Brock. There's also the rare occasion where she lets her hair down or dresses in something more womanly, usually for the beach or a festival. Whenever that occurs, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emkbB7QI0Dw Ash is always very confused]].
** Similarly, Iris of the later seasons is an athletic WildChild who [[CutenessProximity loves cute things]] and who reveals in one episode that she likes dancing in a ridiculously cute way. She also has no problem with putting on a fancy dress and acting more feminine in order to infiltrate a female theater group, particularly enjoying getting to do the NoblewomansLaugh.
* In ''Manga/PrincessKnight'', Sapphire's Boy Heart means that she exhibits masculine qualities like being a great swordfighter and enjoying adventuring, but her Girl Heart means that she also enjoys wearing beautiful dresses and wants to marry Prince Charming. Friebe, meanwhile, loves running around as a lady knight, but ultimately dreams of marrying a great warrior.
* ''Anime/ProjectAko'': Despite [[OneOfTheBoys initial impressions]], A-ko isn't totally devoid of femininity. In ''Cinderella Rhapsody'', she tells her friend, C-ko, that she dreams of a perfect summer where she'd meet [[SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan a cute boy and spend romantic evenings with him.]] She also goes shopping for dresses in hopes of attracting Kei's attention.
* Miki Sayaka from ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'' has a tomboyish appearance and heroic personality, however, she has a girly side when it comes to her interest in classical music and romance. Kyouko, a tomboy who makes Sayaka look feminine by comparison, doesn't really run into this trope in the series; but in TheMovie she mentions hating sour food and gets teased for having childlike tastes, which might count. [[spoiler:Though this may be a result of the labyrinth brainwashing her into a {{flanderiz|ation}}ed version of herself, with an exaggerated sweet tooth.]]
* ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'':
** Akane is extremely tomboyish, enjoys martial arts, and has quite a temper. However, she likes cute things and prefers to wear skirts and girly outfits, so if one were to judge based solely on appearance she's more like a GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak. She aspires to be more like her YamatoNadeshiko older sister, Kasumi, but unfortunately, her domestic skills are... [[LethalChef lacking]]. In her case, it's justified as Akane has a very idealized view of femininity coming from the early death of her mother - it's implied that she wants to be more girly to emulate the dead Mrs. Tendo.
** Ukyo is a tomboyish {{Bifauxnen}} and an excellent cook. She also keeps her hair very, very long and sometimes gushes like a schoolgirl when she fantasizes about Ranma.
* In ''Anime/RebornToMasterTheBlade'', the protagonist, Inglis, was a male Warrior King in his first life, and is reborn as a female noblewoman in this one. Despite some initial misgivings about the unwanted gender change, she quickly realizes that it is no obstacle in her goal to [[BloodKnight get into tough fights, grow stronger, and avoid any sort of high position that would keep her out of a battlefield again.]] Still, she rather enjoys dressing up in fancy dresses, enjoys the company of other feminine women, and finds a new mysterious taste for sweets like her female cousin, Rafinha.
* In ''Manga/RedRiver1995'', Yuri is more comfortable in clothing meant for younger boys and prefers working on her fighting skills rather than getting oil baths from her maids. She still has some pretty romantic views of love and marriage that she carried over from modern times, which she clings to and which she isn't shy about sharing with other female characters (for instance, telling Princess Alexandra that she shouldn't be with any man she doesn't love).
* Juliet from ''Anime/RomeoXJuliet''. She's a girl [[RaisedAsTheOppositeGender who's had to live her life as a boy for VERY complicated reasons]], but when she's given the chance to put on a cute dress for a party, she enjoys it quite a bit. Later, she has no real problem with wearing dresses in private.
* ''Franchise/SailorMoon'':
** Makoto Kino. On the one hand, a {{Tomboy}}ish HugeSchoolgirl and BullyHunter who gets unfairly painted as a {{Delinquent|s}}, is {{The Big G|uy}}al of her FiveManBand and the one who gets most physical of them in a fight (besides [[SixthRanger Haruka/Sailor Uranus]]). On the other hand, she is the best among at domestic skills, from [[TeamChef cooking]] and sewing to general housekeeping, and dreams of becoming a florist and baker.
** Haruka Tenoh is an outright {{Bifauxnen}} in [[Anime/SailorMoon the anime]], but in [[Manga/SailorMoon the manga]] wears girly clothing and makeup as often as she crossdresses.
* Momoka, the lead of ''Manga/SaintDragonGirl'', has two obsessions: Martial arts and {{panda|ingToTheAudience}}s.
* Brash Sekai Saionji and {{Passionate Sports Girl}} Otome Katou from ''VisualNovel/SchoolDays''.
* Mitsuba of ''Manga/SeraphOfTheEnd'' is a tough ActionGirl with a HotBlooded temper who wears the sleeves of her uniform rolled up compared to her other female comrades. She also is [[LethalChef horrible at cooking]] and Shinoa teases her about being unfeminine. She declares in her profile she wants to become a housewife one day and learn how to cook better. She occasionally gets her damsel in distress moments as well.
* Himeko from ''Manga/SketDance'' is a fiery ex-{{Delinquent|s}} who can go absolutely crazy about cute things.
* When Lina Inverse from ''Literature/{{Slayers}}'' (normally very tomboyish) tries to charge Zelgadis three million gold pieces for the orihalcon statue, she fantasizes briefly about what she's going to do with this money. Her fantasy involves her in a castle as a princess in a frilly dress. She also looks quite cute when dressing up, as long as the outfit isn't too extravagant. When she put on a [[TrueBlueFemininity a lovely blue gown]] in the first anime, Gourry and Amelia were genuinely surprised to see how nicely Lina can clean up.
* ''Anime/TweenyWitches'':
** Arusu is a FieryRedhead, has BoyishShortHair, wears a [[TankTopTomboy tank top]] and pants before her SignificantWardrobeShift as part of her GoingNative, and rides a FlyingBroomstick like a skateboard, with which she is skilled enough to have been nicknamed [[RedBaron "the Skateboard King"]] back in the Human Realm. She uses [[UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns the gender-neutral "watashi"]], is comfortable in a minidress, and at some point, tells [[TheLancer Sheila]] to look in the mirror, saying that a lady always grooms herself before going out.
** Sheila is a rude and no-nonsense BrokenBird, has BoyishShortHair, uses [[OreOnna the assertive masculine "ore"]], and is quite willing to fight the warlocks as a {{Child Soldier|s}}. However, when she makes a celebratory meal for the foundation of the Magical Girl Squad, Arusu notes upon eating that she is as good as [[TeamChef Eva]] at cooking.
* Wakaba from ''Anime/VividredOperation'' sports a Tomboyish Ponytail and enjoys masculine pursuits, but she also enjoys reading fashion magazines, likes cute things, and loves dressing Himawari up in flattering dresses.
* ''Manga/TheWorldGodOnlyKnows'':
** One of Keima's capture targets, Kusunoki Kasuga, is a female martial artist who as an HeirToTheDojo repressed her feminine side and love for cute things because she believed they would make her weak. After her capture, she begins to accept her feminine side.
** Another capture target, Yui Goidou, approaches it from the other direction. After her initial capture arc, she transforms from a YamatoNadeshiko with a fondness for drumming into a masculine {{Bifauxnen}}, but one who still retains some girly mannerisms such as being nervous in a haunted house or fantasizing about her dream wedding with Keima (even if she imagines ''him'' being the one wearing the dress).
* Miura from ''Manga/{{Yotsuba}}'' is a mischievous tomboy, but is surprisingly squeamish and with a distaste for anything slimy and gross. Inversely, Ena appears to be the [[TomboyAndGirlyGirl girly girl]] of the two, but not only is she unfazed with the things that Miura finds gross, she even thinks that large frogs are cute.
* ''Franchise/YuGiOh'':
** Anzu Mazaki / Téa Gardner from ''Manga/YuGiOh'' has a tomboyish {{Shorttank}} personality, but also serves as the [[TheHeart emotional center]] to her group of male friends (especially in the anime) and dreams of becoming a famous dancer. In the anime, she also has a deck full of cute fairy monsters.
** Anna Kouzuki from ''Anime/YuGiOhZEXAL'' has a masculine personality, uses very masculine pronouns, and she is one of the very few female Duelist who doesn't use an AmazonBrigade, and instead uses a deck themed after trains and cannons. But pink is one of her primary theme colors, and most of her motivation later on is driven by her love for Yuma. She also has her occasional cute moments.
