** Cross has one in Skelter Bite after misinterpreting Eustass Kid's comment of "Do me." for [[HoYay something completely different]].

* InertiaIsACruelMistress: Ace's attempt to catch a cannonball send him flying back several feet.

* ItSeemedLikeAGoodIdeaAtTheTime: Cross taking advantage of the Vision Transponder Snails Shiki distributed around the world to take the the [=SBS=] visual sounded like an ingenious idea. Unfortunately, he didn't realize that Zoro's workout routines would basically be considered softcore porn to his female viewership.

** In response to Cross' obscene bounty, Sengoku declared he wouldn't put such a price on the son of Dragon, and he meant that quite literally.

*** Eustass Kid ([[{{Jerkass}} whom the term "hero" is loosely applied]]), was involved in ''[[Anime/DeadEndAdventure]]'' and has Biera and the Bascùd siblings Adelle and Shuraiya as part of his crew.

** It seems that some of the adventures from anime filler-arcs, movies, and video games that this story is skipping over are still happening, just to other crews. For example, Bartolomeo has Apis from the Warship Island arc as a member of his crew, and Smoker & Tashigi apparently traveled to the island where the plot of the [[UsefulNotes/{{Wii}} Nintendo Wii-exclusive]] ''One Piece: Unlimited Adventure'' takes place [[spoiler: and met [[GuardianEntity Popola]], who is hinted by Tashigi to be the unknown possible fifth member of the New World Mason [[MemoryWipingCrew Cleaners division]] if Smoker can convince him to join.]]

* LiteralMetaphor: When Cross explained that in canon, Perona was blown away by Kuma, an irate Sanji took this as a DeadlyEuphemism, before Cross elaborated on Kuma's ability to send people flying across the world.

* ItSeemedLikeAGoodIdeaAtTheTime: Cross taking advantage of the Vision Transponder Snails Shiki distributed around the world to take the the [=SBS=] visual was a neat idea. Unfortunately, he didn't realize that Zoro's workout routines would basically be considered softcore porn to his female viewership.

* IAmNotLeftHanded: Ryuma is normally weighted down with molten lead. Once he lets it all out, he becomes fast and strong enough to ''cut through the Florian Triangle's fog'''.

** With Mr. 3 attacking Cross and Tashigi, his powers could not be used to free Luffy and the others from their cage in Rain Dinners. Fortunately, thanks to Cross's inspiration, Nami was able to free them using this.

* HeelRealization: Cross's words on tolerance and "perpetuating hate for hate's sake" make Hancock, Marigold, and Sandersonia realize they've become far too similar to the World Nobles they despise.

* HereWeGoAgain: This is the general air when [[spoiler: Perona appears on the Sunny and asks for passage to another island of her liking - she snuck on like Robin, she asks the crew to "take responsibility" like Robin, she bribes Nami with treasure like Robin, and she asks to borrow some of the women's clothes like Robin]].

** Foxy goes catatonic when [[spoiler: [[WorldsStrongestMan Whitebeard]] calls into the SBS during the broadcasted Davy Back Fight, and Luffy manages to impress him.]] It takes Cross's foghorn to snap him out of it.

* HeroicSacrifice: As in canon, Zoro offers his head to Kuma in place of Luffy's and Cross's, but when he hears that his head is only worth one of their lives, not both, [[spoiler: Nami steps up in Cross's place.]]

** Smoker, Hina, Tashigi and a visiting Captain T-Bone get this sentiment when Su joins Soundbite [[spoiler:on Cross's SBS]].

** Cross's attempted interventions seem to result in keeping the crew safe… only for him to take the hit instead. This happens with [[spoiler:the prehistoric bacteria on Little Garden]], [[spoiler:the initial meeting with Mr. 2]], and [[spoiler:the 1st round of the Davy Back Fight]].

** As Vivi finds out, one of Cross's biggest fears in this world is, despite everything he's tried to do, failing to stop the Paramount War.
** Despite Cross's planning, [[ObsessedWithFood Luffy]] still ends up revealing himself to Jonathan.

** [[spoiler:Despite Cross's promise, Merry's keel is still broken beyond all hope of saving.]]

** Cross's [[spoiler:torture by Enel and the surgery to save his life]] are broadcasted worldwide because everyone (including Soundbite) forgot they were still broadcasting.

* IWorkAlone: Variant example - [[FamedInStory Luffy]] has received quite a few offers to become allies and/or subordinate crews to the Four Emperors and even an offer to become a Warlord, but he's rejected them all for the simple reason that the future Pirate King can't have a boss.

** Garp, whenever [[spoiler:Cross's SBS comes on]]. It's so much that he causes tremors when he gets going, much to Sengoku's frustration.

* InconvenientSummons: While showing off for the Straw Hats, Franky calls out Kiwi and Mozu for their dance, even if Kiwi was in the shower at the time. [[MegatonPunch She doesn't take it too well.]]

** [[spoiler:Perona]] easily escapes a set of sea prism stone handcuffs because only one hand was cuffed and she used a hairpin to pick the lock. She even notes that no female pirate worth the name goes without a hairpin for the exact purpose, which Nami, Vivi, Robin, and Merry agree with. Even Raphey, who doesn't even have hair.

* InJoke: [=CP9=] has one of these in the Christmas Episode, when Galley-La and Iceburg are meeting in Blueno's bar, and Blueno, as a Christmas present, gives Lucci a bag of catnip. It takes every measure of control that Kaku and Kalifa have not to burst out laughing, and Hattori doesn't even try, rolling on the floor cackling.

** Merry is very emphatic that Thousand Sunny is her big brother despite being younger than her. According to her, he's going to be King of the Seas so there's no way he can be anything less.

** When De Lis calls HQ for confirmation, she gets Garp saying that the Accinos never did make any requests.

* HistoryRepeats: Jabra betrays Blueno, knocks him out and leaves him for dead, then after Luffy [=KOs=] him, the wolf-man gets back up a while later in an outright berserk rage... and is promptly finished off by a recovered Blueno and a [[TheDoorSlamsYou stone door]]. Now think about the Baratie arc and what happened between Don Krieg and Gin. Kinda similar, no?

* InsistentTerminology: Cross objects to being called a kid or brat, being 18. He also objects to Vivi's nickname for him, Mister Jeremiah, which comes across as implying he's much older than he is. The insistence ends in Chapter 18, when he finally gives up.

* IChooseToStay: [[spoiler:Vivi had always planned on leaving Carue behind when she left with the Straw Hats, but Carue wanted none of that and came along anyway.]]
** [[spoiler:Su does the same thing when Conis joins the Straw Hats.]]

* IllPretendIDidntHearThat: When first informed by Smoker, Tashigi, and Hina of their planned coup against the corrupt government, T-Bone starts walking out of the room, loudly talking to himself about meeting Smoker the next day.
