* In the short story ''Condors'', the seventh issue of Creator/GarthEnnis's ''War Story'' series, four different soldiers, each representing a different faction fighting in the UsefulNotes/SpanishCivilWar, are taking shelter in a shellhole during an artillery barrage. Having agreed to a truce and to go their separate ways peacefully when the battle ends, they pass the time by relating their backstories, reasons for fighting in the war and how they have come to see war itself. The first, a German Luftwaffe pilot fighting with the Condor Legion, is there because he loves a to fly, believing it to be the most honorable way to wage war. The second, an English socialist fighting with the International Brigade, is there to fight for the Socialist Revolution and believes that war brings out the best, most fair in men. The third, an ex-IRA man and blueshirt fighting with the O'Duffy Brigade, is there to fight for Fascism, and being a veteran of the Easter Rising, the Irish War of Independence and the Irish Civil War, he has come to believe war can only be won through whatever means necessary. The fourth man, a Republican volunteer and the only actual Spaniard in the group, shares his reasons for fighting...
