They're swords, according to the omake

* [[NinjaMaid Yumeko]], the penultimate boss of the game, is known for being a nightmare to defeat even for experts. While the difficulty of the game is gradually but steadily raised until her battle, she herself is a nasty [[DifficultySpike difficulty spike]]. Half of her patterns require very fast reactions - she just throws some knives and bullets. But later, you have to deal with VERY tightly aimed streams of bullets/lasers AND knives she randomly throws everywhere. If you survive that, prepare for some very fast bullet walls followed by more knives... from both sides of the screen! Her final attack, which "only" requires dodging diagonally thrown daggers, seems easy by comparison. And since all of her patterns are speedy and need very good reflexes rather than good bullet trajectory reading, you will usually have to bomb in advance to avoid losing even more resources.

* Yukari's fight in this game is to put simply nasty, being mostly about giving you barely any downtime by flooding screen with projectiles. Although she's no longer a ClimaxBoss like in previous game, the few characters that do face her will likely burn through some of their lives just to defeat her, given in this game most of her spellcards are rigged in her favor instead of just one. Her first one has her release rings that move in awkward patterns and will easily juggle if you get hit directly by it, while leaving enough downtime for exactly one attack between each cycle (that is if you actually get to connect it in time). The second one is the only one that is even remotely fair, as she moves around the screen while throwing out some easy to avoid projectiles. The third one has her spam lasers in a wide range for quite a long period for time, with again, barely any downtime. Fourth one is effectively the return of infamous telegraphed laser spam from previous game. The final has her once again fill screen with lasers, but in an even more annoying way. This is all with the usual Scarlet Weather Rhapsody mechanics, such as projectile priority (and odds are Yukari's spellcard projectiles will negate yours), being unable to interrupt AI's story spellcards (if an attack connects, the AI simply gets "frozen" for its duration, which isn't always useful), or your 20 card deck being for ''the entire story'', rather than just for a single stage.

* Despite being arguably the hardest boss in ''VideoGame/MegaMari'', Yukari has a surprisingly simple pattern compared to virtually every other boss. Of course, this isn't what makes her hard. What makes her hard is that there is a bottomless pit during the fight and you must stay alive by jumping on platforms that move in random directions. And Ran and Chen are spinning all over the place and firing bullets at you. And you can't hit her 90% of the time. Given how hard she was to fight in her debut game, this certainly isn't surprising.

* Patchouli Knowledge in ''VideoGame/KoumajouDensetsu'', lagely thanks to her ''"Philosopher's Stone"'' attack which deals a large amount of damage, is tricky to dodge, tricky to follow up with a comeback and follows an attack with homing bullets, making it all the harder to exploit the brief moments where she is open.
** The sequel has three [=TOB=]s. First of all Konpaku Youmu who attacks the player in an area where water reaches up to Sakuya's torso, severly crippling her mobility, and at higher difficulty settings her ghost-half also fires bullet barrages when hit, forcing the player to time his/her attacks to make sure the ghost-half is not accidentally caught in a stray slash. The second example is Marisa, who has likely claimed more extra lives with her [[BeamSpam laser barrage]] than any other single attack in the game. The third one is Yuyuko, who has two boss gimmicks: The first one is a red butterfly that slowly follows you throughout the fight and is a OneHitKill on touch. The second gimmick is that many of her bullets do not cause MercyInvincibility, or even make you flinch, so if she nails you with a line of butterflies, you're pretty much dead. In addition to this, she also throws a LOT MoreDakka than any boss fought up to this point.

* Reimu, especially in Mima, Marisa and Kotohime's campaigns, where she's the seventh opponent. Her yin-yang orbs are fast and difficult to read and dodge, and her danmaku is very tight and requires precision and quick thinking to navigate. [[BreadEggsBreadedEggs Both of the above coming at you at the same time]] makes for an especially nasty combination.
* Yumemi is notorious among final bosses. Like Eiki from the ninth game, she pretty much just won't die in the first round, requiring you to either arrive at her fight with at least one extra life, or [[LuckBasedMission get really lucky]] with an AIBreaker character.[[note]] Reimu, Rikako or Yumemi herself.[[/note]] Her crosses are very large, denying a lot of space, and once the fight goes for long enough she'll occasionally flood your screen with them. When summoned to your field, one of her attacks creates [[ThatOneAttack a thick cluster of bullets that is a pain to get through]], and another spawns crosses at your position in rapid succession. And on Lunatic, where the entire game gets way more aggressive, she's considered one of if not the ''hardest final boss in the series''. Not bad for a human outsider relying on artificial magic.

* [=YuugenMagan=], the second boss if you took the Makai route. Many of this boss's attacks happen very quickly and require precision to dodge, especially the missile attacks, meaning an unprepared player and sometimes even a prepared one will get hit repeatedly during the fight. And during the final phase, only one eye at a time is vulnerable, forcing you to awkwardly struggle to get the orb to hit the currently open eye while also dodging the constant danmaku.
