Heck, ''even the brainwashed Mamoru cries'', which saves him from his brainwashing.

** Mamoru is about to fight Zoicite who summons a giant crystal shard from out of the ground. Zoicite uses it to ''stab Mamoru in the back'' with the strong implication that he ''[[DroppedABridgeOnHim might not survive]]''. Usagi, who was standing by his side the whole time, starts crying as she holds him in her arms. Her tears then glisten, revealing her as the Moon Princess and the episode ends right there. If that isn't enough, the [=DiC=] dub from the 1990s plays the heart-wrenching song "My Only Love" while all this is going on[[note]]Viz Media has the original Japanese song[[/note]]. [[spoiler: [[UnexplainedRecovery Mamoru does wake up at the beginning of Episode 36, though]].]]

** Surprisingly, this scene is just as good in the [=Dic=] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtbnh4rBzpU dubbed version.]] As one [=MiSTing=] put it, "not even Mary Long's terrible voicing of Molly could ruin that scene." Especially impressive considering she didn't know the episode's plot in advance and had only looked at the script moments before recording it - and her performance reduced the entire crew to tears.

** The Latin-American VA's made it just as heartwretching. Cristina Camargo's "Nephrite... no... don't leave me, no! Don't die, [[spoiler: Nephrite]], please don't..." * sob* "NEPHRIIIIIIITEEEE!" still can bring tears to the eyes...

* Chibi-Usa returns with Moon, Venus and Tuxedo Kamen to Crystal Tokyo. She sees her father and runs to him joyfully; then she passes through him when trying to give him a hug. He's only a hologram because his body is in a coma from the injuries sustained during the battle.

* One from the R manga/Crystal: [[spoiler: Sailor Pluto's HeroicSacrifice, when she stops time ''knowing'' it'll kill her so she can stop Demande from destroying the universe]]. Especially when [[spoiler: it undoes Chibi-Usa/Black Lady's brainwashing, lets her morph into Sailor Chibi Moon, and then the poor little girl sees Pluto's dead body and '''bawls'''. She says something to the extent of: "Pluto! Look at me, please! Open your eyes! I wanted you to see me as a Sailor Senshi! I want you to see I've grown! PLUTO, PLEASE, WAKE UP! NOOOOOOOOOOO!".]]}
** The scene is pretty much repeated the same way in the ''Theatre/SeraMyu'' (Specifically the Black Lady Musicals.) The other Outer Senshi (Who are from Crystal Tokyo like Pluto in this version) try to soften the blow [[spoiler: by telling her she's just resting.]] The fact Chibi-Usa and Black Lady have a duet shortly after [[spoiler: Pluto dies]] that is just as sad makes the scene worse.
* Toward the end of the manga, when Usagi introduces Artemis and Diana to her mother, and tells her to take care of them before she goes off to fight Galaxia. Ikuko stares in fear as she tells Kenji she gets the feeling she's never going to see Usagi again, while Luna, Artemis, and Diana [[spoiler:who are unable to talk due to damage to their crescent moons]] mew pitifully as they ''know'' Usagi's walking to her doom.
* Galaxia's [[spoiler:RedemptionEqualsDeath in the manga. Despite how horribly evil she'd been, it's a surprisingly sad scene.]]

* Sailor Moon is urged to destroy [[spoiler:the cauldron from which Chaos arises. If she does, she'll obliterate it and prevent future villains from arising. But, as she realizes, it will also destroy life. Instead, she decides to TakeAThirdOption and sacrifice herself to the Cauldron, purifying it. Fortunately, this leads to her, the Senshi and Tuxedo Kamen regenerating and being able to resume their lives. For the Sailor Quartet, however, as they watch they are horrified that Usagi died in front of them.]]

* Episode 24 ([[spoiler:Nephrite's [[HeelFaceDoorSlam death]] and Naru's reaction to it]]).

** The Latin-American VA's made it just as heartwretching. Cristina Camargo's "[[spoiler: Nephrite]]... no... don't leave me, no! Don't die, [[spoiler: Nephrite]], please don't..." * sob* "[[spoiler: NEPHRIIIIIIITEEEE!]]" still can bring tears to the eyes...

** Molly desperately saying "We'll get a doctor and everything will be alright! [[spoiler: Neflite, hang on! I don't want you to go, Neflite! No, don't leave me!"]] Followed by an utterly heartrending BigNO that will send chills down your spine.

* Another general Viz example. Those familiar with english dubs know that Creator/StephanieSheh is a talented actress, [[Manga/{{Bleach}} and given]] [[Manga/KOn some of her ]] [[Literature/AccelWorld previous]] [[Anime/{{K}} roles]], fans of English dubs had no doubt she could pull off the ditzieness of Usagi's character. However, some were worried that when it came time for the emotional scenes, she'd not be able to pull off the range and delivery the story called for. [[SugarWiki/HeReallyCanAct She delivered alright, in spades.]] One of the most gut-wrenching demonstrations came in episode 35 when Usagi has an emotional breakdown from the sudden responsibility of being the Moon Princess. When the character laughs, Ms. Sheh is bubbly and cute, but when she cries, she sounds completely broken and lost. After that scene, it was fair to say that skeptics of the dub were silenced.

* Episode 47 ([[spoiler:when Usagi gets her LaserGuidedAmnesia undone by Luna and bloodcurdlingly screams [[BigNo "NO!"]] when she remembers that she's Sailor Moon, and sadly says [[IJustWantToBeNormal "Futsuu no Usagi-chan ni... bai bai..."/"To the ordinary Usagi... bai bai...]] after finishing off the MonsterOfTheWeek. Luna's expression even changes from angry (at Ail and An) to worried concern before she says it. Heartbreaking.)]]

* Episode 49 had Makoto's backstory of her sempai that she had remained brokenhearted over for the longest time. The hurt look on her face and that ''song'' can be seen in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5ObwFjSMbg&feature=related this scene]]. The original English dub did a surprisingly good job with an [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFtyWN9m8ak&feature=related English song]]. In fact, the whole episode [[spoiler:became somewhat of a tearjerker in that Makoto had given blood to her best friend Shinozaki (who was never mentioned again) because he had been injured saving her from the Cardian and her fight scene became close to a SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome to her, seen [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrrlfTxAKKg here]]. A time that someone ''besides'' Usagi could actually defeat the monster.]]

*** After Usagi and Luna have disappeared, Ami, Makoto, and Minako can all gasp in horror while starts crying as she screams "''USAGI!''"

** Ail and An realizing that [[spoiler:Usagi and Mamoru never had feelings for them respectively. Even worse was that they had the Doom Tree steal energy from the two, though not enough to kill them.]]

** ([[spoiler: An's DisneyDeath and Ail's reaction to it, complete with two SayMyName moments as well as PietaPlagiarism.]])
** The Doom Tree's story: [[spoiler:its children when they arrived started fighting each other, consumed by hate. They ended up murdering each other while the Tree could only watch - the only reason it is able to talk currently is because of Usagi's power. By the time Ail and An were conceived, they had no way of knowing what their parent, the Doom Tree, really wanted: love, not energy. Ail while holding An's body looks regretful in how he failed to understand what the Doom Tree needed. When Usagi does a Princess Halation to heal the tree, she worries that she's killed it.]]

* Episode 69, where Usagi thinks Mamoru dumped her for another girl [[spoiler: who turns out to be his best friend's little sister]] (this was around the time that Mamoru had recurring nightmares of marrying Usagi and a voice telling him to stay away from her or the universe would be destroyed), there's a part where Usagi is in front of the refrigerator, stuffing her face out of depression, though that's nothing compared to the scene.

* Episode 73 featured the Inner Senshi [[spoiler: being abducted by Rubeus as they tried to protect Chibi-Usa]]. And Usagi is driven to horrified tears when it happens, blaming Chibi-Usa for it, because if Chibi-Usa hadn't stolen Usagi's brooch to use her Silver Crystal, she could've saved the girls. At this moment, Usagi is so [[BerserkerTears utterly angry]] at Chibi-Usa, she would've started ''hitting her'' had Mamoru not intervened. And all Chibi-Usa does is close her eyes and wait for it to happen, [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone having realized how BADLY she screwed up.]] Fortunately, she soon gets the chance to make amends and help Moon rescue the Senshi.

* Saphir's [[spoiler:death! The guy, who's been nothing but dutiful towards his brother, Demande, finds out about Wiseman's true intentions, and tries to warn him. But because HeKnowsTooMuch, Wiseman attempts to kill him. Saphir escapes, ends up back in the hands of the sisters, but still tries to warn Demande of the danger they're in that Wiseman is using him. In the end, Wiseman kills Saphir off (in front of Demande no less) before he can spill the beans. And then the bandages on Saphir's head fall off, revealing he's truly [[HeelFaceTurn turned good/been purified on his own free will]].]] And to drive it further, [[spoiler: there's a flashback of Demande and Saphir as kids looking at flowers, and Demande promising his little brother that one day they'll see flowers on Earth and live there. Saphir's death was every bit as painful for Demande as it was for the audience, since this means he'll never get to fulfill his promises to Saphir. Also at the moment of his death, the jacket he left with Petz falls from where it's hanging on the wall and she realizes he's died. Even worst, the said jacket later disappears from while Petz is holding it]] Damn, it's just heartbreaking.
** Normally, Usagi can heal people with her crystal and she has before. [[spoiler:By the time she arrives, however, it's too late and he's already passed on. In both dubs, Sailor Moon starts crying for him to hang on for Petz's sake and her helplessness is agonizing]].
** In the [=DIC=], [[spoiler:Saphir's last thought is an apology to Petz who is known as Prisma. He really loved her]].
** Demande's reaction doesn't help. [[spoiler:He sees Saphir fall, and he starts tearing up. Demande then approaches Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen, who left on really bad terms with him before. In a moment of OOCIsSeriousBusiness, he picks up Saphir's body, mutters "Wiseman," and walks away without doing anything else]].
* Episode 87 ([[spoiler: Usagi and Naru's talk right before Usagi launches her last attack on Black Moon, to de-brainwash Chibi-Usa and defeat the enemy, with the heavily implication that [[SecretKeeper Naru knows Usagi's secret.]]]]

** Chibi-Usa alone could qualify. Yes, yes, she's a brat at times, but think about it. She's a five-year-old kid who's desperate to save her mother and her kingdom, but has no idea how to go about it, all the while being pursued by villains out to murder her. On top of that, it's been established that [[LonelyRichKid she was VERY lonely back home]], to the point of being terrified that no one really loves her. Underneath all that brattiness lies a lost, scared, lonely little girl who just wants to go home and have things be normal again. [[spoiler: And on top of it, her home was invaded because of something she did, and her mother was severely injured ''to protect her'', and Chibi-Usa is totally traumatized by the memories.]]
* Demande's [[spoiler:death. He had finally realized that his brother was right about Wiseman and remembered his original objective (see the section of Saphir's death), and fights Wiseman to avenge Saphir and Esmeraude. When Wiseman directs two energy blades at Sailor Moon, Demande [[HeroicSacrifice jumps in front of her and is impaled]]. He dies in Sailor Moon's arms, having found his redemption and saying he'd change his ways at this point if he could, and his sacrifice shows he now truly cares for Sailor Moon, and, as she points out, that he does have a heart. Though his love for her is unrequited she still sheds tears for him.]]

* Episode 110: Michiru and Haruka's [[spoiler: Talismans appear]], and the famous hands scene where Haruka angsts as she considers herself tainted, and Michiru comforts her. The second is made sadder because it's followed several scenes in which the saddened Inners recall how they've tried to talk to them to no avail.

* The deaths of a few of the Witches Five also qualify as well. [[spoiler: Eudial]], simply because she was [[spoiler: Mimette]]'s ''butt monkey'' and was the victim of many a prank. [[spoiler: Viluy]], because she devoted her life to her machines, even as she vanishes, Mercury says "Poor girl..." and lastly, [[spoiler: Mimette]], who even had a brief HeelFaceTurn when thinking of not being a bad person anymore; although she technically didn't die, she's simply stuck inside a giant TV when [[spoiler: Tellu]] pulls the plug with her inside... which is a FateWorseThanDeath.

** Don't forget the scene in which we learn ''why'' is this happening. [[spoiler: The then-normal Tomoe and Hotaru were caught in an experiment GoneHorriblyWrong that made Tomoe's original lab go KABOOM, killing Tomoe's assistants (and apparently, Hotaru's mother Keiko). A badly injured Tomoe found a dying Hotaru and crosses the DespairEventHorizon, screaming that he'd do anything to save his daughter's life. Then, Pharaoh 90 appears and offers him a DealWithTheDevil to save her...]] And the way the scene is set up is brilliant as well as heartbreaking: [[spoiler: the flashback is actually Hotaru's [[PastExperienceNightmare bad dreams]]. She's herself for a while instead of the DarkMessiah, is taking a nap in her "throne", and as she sleeps she recalls the very moment that changed her and her father's life for the worse...]]

* The death of the Amazon Trio. [[spoiler:Fish starts to wonder who they really are, even attacking Tiger and seeing that they have no Dream Mirrors]]; later, [[spoiler: Fish has a VillainousBSOD and just sits under the rain until Usagi comes to his rescue]], and then we have the worst/best part: [[spoiler:Usagi being captured, {{Mind Rape}}d by the MonsterOfTheWeek (which was NOT sent by the Trio) and ''having her Mirror shattered'', letting out a yell of pain and almost becoming an EmptyShell. Fish's own screams of utter horror and despair is heartbreaking]]. This is followed by [[spoiler:Hawk TakingTheBullet for Fish, Fish and Tiger pulling an HeroicSacrifice to save Usagi and retrieve Chibi-Usa so they can defeat the monster, and then Helios rescuing their souls after they die.]] Really, that two-parter was MADE of this trope, and it was one of the best parts of the ''Super S'' season.
* Super S might have been unpopular, but episode 152 had a surprisingly powerful scene. A girl named Nanako [[OneeSama is pretty much infatuated with Rei and follows her around like a puppy]], wanting to become a {{Miko}} like her. Rei at first thinks it's funny, but later she sees it [[StalkerWithoutACrush as creepy and overbearing]], and then she snaps and says she wants Nanako to go get a life... [[spoiler:Poor Nanako hears this and is heartbroken, running away in tears. She's then captured by the Amazon Quartet, who release a Monkey-themed MonsterOfTheWeek which, in the middle of the fight, eats Nanako's Dream Mirror to power itself up... then [[http://www.soul-hunter.com/sailormoon/galleryscreencaps/152/index6.php changes her features to make itself look like Nanako]] [[KickTheDog and starts to openly mock her]], revealing that she imitated Rei because she was ProneToTears [[HeroicSelfDeprecation without any self-esteem.]] What seals the deal is that we then see a half-unconscious Nanako ''softly crying and begging the monster to stop belittling her''.]] Rei is [[ThisIsUnforgivable so pissed off]] at the enemy when she finds out that she suits up into Mars and pulls her MidSeasonUpgrade, the Mars [[KillItWithFire Flame Sniper]], alongside a SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome that lets her beat the monster enough to have Moon and Chibi Moon kill it. [[spoiler:And much to the audience and the cast's relief, despite all the BreakTheCutie, Nanako gets better and is able to search for her own goals.]]
* Episode 164: [[spoiler:Pegasus returns to his body as Helios. Chibi Moon and Helios are about to be pulled apart from each other, but grab each others' hands, and Helios yells "Chibi-Usa-chan!"]] and Chibi Moon says "That's the first time you've said my name..." And her desperate screams when [[spoiler:the Golden Crystal is taken from Helios and he disappears]].

* The whole finale of the Nehelenia arc, but especially Hotaru's battle. "Those eyes again... [[DontYouDarePityMe DON'T LOOK AT ME]] [[AngerBornOfWorry WITH SUCH EYES]]!" And Chibi-Usa [[spoiler: trying to revive her father in the background was painful.]] As well as [[spoiler: her ''disappearing out of existence'' in the arms of an injured, exhausted, almost defeated Usagi (pictured above is the moment when Chibi-Usa fully vanishes, leaving poor Usagi with her arms empty). It can also count as AlasPoorScrappy as well.]]

* Episode 194 with Usagi [[spoiler: breaking down because Seiya threw a rose during the battle and saying that she didn't want to be alone.]] Made all the better by [[spoiler: Seiya asking her quietly if he's good enough.]] It's hard to make words do justice-- Creator/KotonoMitsuishi's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-juH7wyC1nw performance is just gut-wrenching]].
* [[spoiler: Sailor Tin Nyanko]]'s own death is tragic, since it was revealed earlier in the same that she was once a former Sailor Guardian who had been corrupted and controlled by Galaxia. Due to one of her mind control bracelets having been destroyed in the previous episode, [[FightingFromTheInside her original, heroic personality had begun to reassert itself]], clashing with Galaxia's brainwashing. The Inner Senshi even intervened during her battle with the Starlights, Neptune and Uranus, with Rei saying that they should try to help her, not kill her. Then Galaxia shows up [[HeelFaceDoorSlam and casually murders her]], and Usagi and the others can't do anything except watch her scream as she dies. What's more is that unlike [[YouHaveFailedMe Iron Mouse and Aluminum Siren]], she complements Tin Nyanko on a job well done for luring Kakyuu there but [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness kills her anyway]].

* And many, ''many'' moments in episodes 195-200 ([[spoiler:Kakyuu's HeroicSacrifice and its effects on the Starlights, Seiya's "Am I not good enough?" scene, the Senshi's own deaths, Usagi finding out that Mamoru died through BusCrash, Uranus and Neptune's last stand and deaths, Usagi's defeat of Galaxia via ThePowerOfLove instead of killing her]]).
** And let's not forget ([[spoiler:the moment right after that, where Usagi is left hanging, ''all alone'', until she hears first Rei, then Mamoru calling to her...]])
** On the subject of the revelation of Mamoru's [[spoiler: [[BusCrash death via Bus Crash]]]], what's the very last thing [[spoiler:Rei]] says to Usagi? [[spoiler:"At least you still have Mamoru."]] She says it before the reveal.
** As well, with the [[spoiler:last stand of Uranus and Neptune, we get a HopeSpot when their music starts playing... then cue the sudden cut of the music as it is revealed that their plan, which involved ''killing Saturn and Pluto'', was all for nothing.]] And then you see [[spoiler:the two of them, who '''always''' fight to the end, just give up...]]

*** Usagi, naturally, provides the kicker - [[spoiler: Uranus and Neptune have just proven that everything they did was just to stop Galaxia, including killing Pluto and Saturn, and, as is Usagi's nature, she's not angry at them, just desperate for them not to die, not to have to watch as two more of her friends die.]]
** The conversation in 195 (which takes place soon after the [[spoiler: "I want to see you, Mamo-chan!"]] moment) in which Usagi finally tells Rei that [[spoiler: Mamoru hasn't replied to her]] is heartbreaking. Rei almost seems [[AngerBornOfWorry upset with Usagi]] for keeping it all bottled up.

* The deaths of both [[spoiler: Aluminum Siren and Lead Crow]] in ''Stars''. The first one has [[spoiler: Galaxia coldly executing Siren via taking away her bracelets as she screams for mercy and dissolves in the clearly appalled Crow's arms]]. The second gives us [[spoiler: Crow softly apologizing to Siren's memory before she's absorbed into a black hole.]]
** The real kicker with [[spoiler:Siren's death is the whole time she's screaming and struggling with her bracelets, Lead Crow is ''holding onto her arms'' as though futilely trying to keep her bracelets in place, all the while begging Galaxia for mercy]].

** In fact, most people who favor the uncut Japanese version of ''Anime/SailorMoon'' over the edited, American version from Creator/DiC (and later Cloverway) do admit that "My Only Love" (from the episode where [[spoiler:Darien is revealed to be Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon is revealed to be the Moon Princess]]) is a better song to play over the last part of the episode than what the Japanese version had (though the Japanese version is heartbreaking in its own right).

* The very end of the Stars Arc: [[spoiler: Even though Usagi was able to purify the Galaxy Cauldron with her sacrifice, being rewarded with her and her loved ones being resurrected, is set to become Queen of Crystal Tokyo, marries Mamoru and is pregnant with Chibi-Usa..Mamoru realizes that the events proved that only Usagi herself is truly immortal, and she’s destined to outlive all of them. This, combined with the warning that Chaos may return one day and she ended up as Sailor Cosmos and fighting an undefeatable Sailor Chaos in one timeline, adds a somber note to the otherwise happy ending that Usagi still may end up being fighting evil by herself in the far future, with the only consolation being that future is only a possibility.]]

** It's even worse in retrospect, [[spoiler: by the end of the season everyone's memories of the invasion are erased]]. Just two episodes after this Naru promised she'd never forget [[spoiler: Nephrite]], [[HarsherInHindsight ouch]]. On the other hand, it means she has memories of a healthier relationship with Umino, that lasts for years.

** You had [[spoiler: Zoicite die in Kunzite's arms, making a last request to die beautifully and then reaffirming his love for Kunzite as he lays dying in his lover's arms]]. The moment it's clear that [[spoiler: Zoicite]] is going to die, you can almost see tears start to form in [[spoiler: Kunzite]]'s eyes. And it's repeated when [[spoiler: Kunzite dies fighting the Sailor Senshi, his last words crying out to Zoicite]].

** The dub actually makes it ''more'' heartbreaking, as [[spoiler:"Malachite" actually pleads for "Zoycite" to be spared, and his voice is filled with emotion as "she" bids him goodbye]].
*** The Viz dub has officially made it even sadder with the performances of Creator/LucienDodge and Creator/PatrickSeitz. [[spoiler: "And I will love you, Zoisite."]]

* The backstory deaths of both of Makoto's parents in a plane crash goes from vaguely sad to absolutely gutwrenching when you take cultural context into account and realize that Naoko Takeuchi very likely had in mind the real-life crash of [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Airlines_Flight_123 Japanese Airlines Flight 123]] on its flight from Tokyo to Osaka during the Obon holiday - the greatest single-airplane related tragedy in history, which is still brought up in Japan every year on the anniversary of the crash. The JAL123 crash occurred in 1985, when Makoto would have been seven years old; there were only four survivors, including two young girls. Worse yet, Mako's panic reaction to even hearing the sound of a plane engine suggests that she was ''on the plane'' with her parents, meaning that little Mako would have experienced both the half-hour struggle for the plane to stay aloft after a massive explosion depressurized the cabin, and the long wait between the plane's crash into the mountains at 7 pm until JSDF rescue teams finally showed up at the crash site the following morning.

* The very end of the Stars Arc: [[spoiler: Even though Usagi was able to purify the Galaxy Cauldron with her sacrifice, being rewarded with her and her loved ones being resurrected, is set to become Queen of Crystal Tokyo, marries Mamoru and is pregnant with Chibi-Usa..Mamoru realizes that the events proved that only Usagi herself is truly immortal, and she’s destined to outlive all of them. This, combined with the warning that Chaos may return one day and she ended up as Sailor Cosmos and fighting an undefeatable Sailor Chaos, adds a somber note to the otherwise happy ending that Usagi still may end up being fighting evil by herself in the far future, with the only consolation being that future is only a possibility.]]

** (From another troper) Ami has severe self-doubts. After a pep-talk from Mamoru and regaining her self-esteem after a swimming race with Michiru, she is attacked by a daimon. Sailor Moon tries to save her, but is incapacitated, and has to watch helplessly while the daimon takes out Ami's heart. She begs it to leave Ami alone, because she has beautiful dreams and because she's her dear friend (the Mexican dub even uses "best friend"). Ami hears it and starts crying.
*** In addition to that Sailor Moon also states that Ami deserves to fulfill her dreams the most because she works harder than anyone to achieve them.

* Usagi's friendship with Naru and Umino becomes severely HarsherInHindsight as Usagi slowly stops interacting with them as she meets her fellow Senshi until she pretty much abandons the two of them altogether.

** Molly desperately saying "We'll get a doctor and everything will be alright, [[spoiler: Neflite hang on, I don't want you to go Neflite, no don't leave me!"]] Followed by an utterly heartrending BigNO that will send chills down your spine.

*** Oh, let's just count them down...

** In the Latin-American dub, we had a Spanish-translated version of the Japanese song. It was very sad too.

* Usagi's friendship with Naru and Umino becomes severely HarsherInHindsight as Usagi slowly stops interacting them as she meets her fellow Senshi until she pretty much abandons the two of them altogether.

* Another general Viz example. Those familiar with english dubs know that Creator/StephanieSheh is a talented actress, [[Manga/{{Bleach}} and given]] [[Manga/KOn some of her ]][[LightNovel/AccelWorld previous]] [[Anime/{{K}} roles]], fans of English dubs had no doubt she could pull off the ditzieness of Usagi's character. However, some were worried that when it came time for the emotional scenes, she'd not be able to pull off the range and delivery the story called for. [[SugarWiki/HeReallyCanAct She delivered alright, in spades.]] One of the most gut-wrenching demonstrations came in episode 35 when Usagi has an emotional breakdown from the sudden responsibility of being the Moon Princess. When the character laughs, Ms. Sheh is bubbly and cute, but when she cries, she sounds completely broken and lost. After that scene, it was fair to say that skeptics of the dub were silenced.

** What adds an additional layer of tragedy is that Usagi can be interpreted as returning Seiya's feelings in some capacity, given her desperation to see him despite everyone else' forbidding each other to do. Even still, she ultimately chooses to be with Mamoru in the end.

** Extra heartbreaking as it comes shortly after Usagi's breakdown on the roof where she emotionally collapses from the weight of missing Mamorou. Poor Usagi!

** The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xRRIDABnCM actual death scene of the inner senshi]] is one of the most devastating moments in animation history. As they lay dying, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter just beg of the Starlights to protect Princess Serenity, while Mars gives a final stirring speech to their leader and apologising for no longer being able to protect her, before fading into nothing. Kotono Mitsuishi's final scream is nothing short of heartbreaking.

** Shipping preferences nothing! Many prefer Mamoru/Usagi and Seiya/Kakyuu over Seiya/Usagi and still felt like shit for Seiya. The poor kid truly needed a hug.

** Mamoru is about to fight Zoicite who summons a giant crystal shard from out of the ground. Zoicite uses it to ''stab Mamoru in the back'' with the strong implication that he ''[[DroppedABridgeOnHim might not survive]]''. Usagi, who was standing by his side the whole time, starts crying as she holds him in her arms. Her tears then glisten, revealing her as the Moon Princess and the episode ends right there. If that isn't enough, the American dub[[note]]the [=DiC=] version from the 1990s. The Viz Media had the original Japanese song[[/note]] plays the heart-wrenching song "My Only Love" while all this is going on. [[spoiler: [[UnexplainedRecovery Mamoru does wake up at the beginning of Episode 36, though]].]]

** Unlike the manga / Crystal / Eternal version of Sailor Moon, this one specifically ''cannot'' resurrect people on a whim and it's repeatedly said throughout the series that using the full power of the Silver Crystal is certain death. Not only did Usagi luck out in this instance (and at the end of ''Sailor Stars''), but she came to realize that every single battle after that might end up the same way and there'd be no guarantee that she'd be able to revive anyone, to the point it affects her badly at the start of ''R'', the ''R movie'' and to a lesser extent the rest of the series. Remember that despite her past life / lineage she's still ''a 14-16 year old girl'' who has had to endure far more than she should, and instead of running away she always faces it head on because there's nobody else who can.
