-->'''Mima''': ''OF COURSE I DIDN'T WANT TO DO IT! But I couldn't trouble all the people who brought me this far!''

* When Mima comes home and all of her pet fish are lying near the bottom of her aquarium, dead. She just stares at them in shock for a few seconds then tears up and proceeds to trash her room.
* And it plays into an ironic {{Foreshadowing}}: Mima has just fought off Me-Mania attempting to kill and rape her, and she's visibly traumatized. Rumi says she'll take her home...only to take her to an apartment that was a recreation of Mima's room before she trashed it. Mima realizes something is wrong when she stares at the very-alive fish, and then realizes the view outside is different. Cue Rumi coming out in a pop idol dress, revealing herself as the killer and wanting to get rid of the "impostor Mima. Mima at first is in denial that her manager killed everyone until Rumi attacks her with an ice pick. To rub salt in the wound, Rumi kills the fish ''by accident'' after stabbing their tank and doesn't care.
** Mima has been going through most of her ordeal alone. She's no longer appearing with her co-singers, has no friends outside of her, and her mother calls from out of town. Rumi's been consistently checking on her and praising her acting ability. No ''wonder'' she goes EtTuBrute on seeing Rumi in the dress.

** When Mima is conversing with a doctor, the physician states that there are brief periods where the real Rumi emerges. Mima replies that she'll never get to see the old Rumi ever again, but is grateful for her manager giving her her start. Rumi was, in a certain context, both Mima's mentor and possibly a second mother to her since she arrived in Tokyo. Having someone that close to her murder others whom she associated with which almost culminated in her own death must have been ''brutal'', though the Mima of the present appears to have made her peace with it.

* Although she is ultimately the villain of the film, Rumi's complete mental breakdown, which is suggested to be permanent, is horribly tragic, especially when considering [[WhiteDwarfStarlet the implied circumstances behind it.]]

Tropers Tale no longer belong to this wiki. Begone, This Troper!

* Believe it or not, [[@/{{Demetrios}} this troper]] cried during the climax of ''Anime/PerfectBlue'', when Rumi/Mima's Evil Twin was trying to kill Mima. Not because there was anything sad about it, but because at that point, [[NightmareFuel the insanity was too much]], especially to the overly-curious 16-year-old I was back then. I know, the insanity of that part wasn't as bad as [[TabletopGame/{{Warhammer 40000}} the forces of Chaos]], but it was pretty up there.
** "I guess I went to Harajuku today..." turned this troper's face into [[TooMuchInformation a heap of snotty mush]], because it signifies Mima's absolute lowest point in terms of sanity - she doesn't trust her own perceptions '''at all''' any more (although, who can blame her? It's a [[Creator/SatoshiKon Kon-sensei]] movie). Conversely, Mima's climactic cry of [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome "Like I even care! I AM MYSELF!"]] was a thing of beauty that made this troper weep with joy.
*** What makes these moments more tear-jerking is that the movie is a rather disturbing example of BreakTheCutie. In the first half of the movie, Mima is a very nice and pleasant lady (albeit a little ditzy), and I don't know if it was just in the English dub or not, but she only swore once in the whole movie even while the other characters were cursing like sailors. Plus she's kind of hot, especially in that costume she wore for the concert. ''I'd'' go out with her ([[GuiltyPleasures if she weren't a fictional character, that is]]).
* This troper felt sorry for [=MeMania=]. Yes, he was [[MoralEventHorizon a serial killer and attempted rapist...]] But that's because he was a deformed, barely-functioning schizophrenic who lived only for his perfect image of Mima. The scene where we see his apartment is an enormous StalkerShrine and that all he wants in life is "the real Mima's" affection was genuinely sad.
