* A minor one in the first movie, when Dave approaches Chris at the beginning to invite him over to their table only to be brutally rebuffed by Chris' hulking bodyguard. Although it's played for laughs, the briefly hopeful expression on Chris' face when he sees Dave walking towards him is what lends it tragedy, along with the realization of how many times such a scene must have occurred in the past, resulting in Chris' isolation from other kids his age.

* Damon (directed to Marcus): "I'll tell you who owes her a childhood! FRANK! D'AMICO!!"

* Big Daddy's backstory, especially since unlike the comic, it was true. The fact that he was framed for something he didn't do, was sent to prison for five years, and his wife took her own life as a result of the framing can be painful, especially when comic fans would likely be led to believe that it would later be revealed to be face, only for Marcus (who was mentioned in the backstory) mentions that one of them is still a cop, thus confirming that everything that happened was true.

* Issue 5 of volume 2: Kick-Ass' father takes the fall for him for being Kick-Ass and is later murdered in prison. The funeral was what really made this heart-breaking, seeing a brief flashback with him playing with Dave as a child.
** Made even more gut-wrenching in the movie because after Mr. Lizewski finds out that Dave is Kick-Ass, Kick-Ass coldly tells him that nobody will remember him (his dad) when he's gone. He acknowledges his regret in saying that at the funeral.
* Red Mist shoots a lot of little kids in the face. He does it in broad daylight, too.
** Not to mention he also raped Katie, right after he shot her father in the head.
* Volume 3: Issue 2 shows that Angie Genovese became a social outcast because of Red-Mist's actions in Volume 2. Best exemplified when a relative of one of the people killed in Red-Mist's rampage confronts her for it, condemns her for: "shitting out the anti-Christ" and spits in her face. This gets so bad that she [[OffingTheOffspring contemplates killing Red-Mist]] to prevent him from escaping from prison.
** Near the end of Issue 2, a guard (later revealed to be Colonel Stripes in disguise) notices Red-Mist watching ''WesternAnimation/XMen.'' He questions why Red-Mist would watch that, considering his moral stances. He then casually reveals that he used to adore the X-Men as a child to the point where he would dress up as Wolverine on a daily basis.

* Volume 3: Issue 7. Chris's RedemptionEqualsDeath moment. He reveals the reason why he helped Mindy was because he felt guilty for making his mother a social pariah for his actions. Before he dies, he tells Mindy to apologize to his mother for him and asked her if she forgives him for his horrible acts. Mindy bluntly rebukes him.

* Might not resonate with some, but when Kick-Ass comes home after a failed night of crime-fighting, he collapses into tears on his bed. While this might be PlayedForLaughs, it can feel pretty harsh when you think about how genuinely hard this guy is trying to save people, and the resulting hopelessness in his failure. It's a depressing sight.

* Issue 5 of volume 2: [[spoiler: Dave's father takes the fall for him for being Kick-Ass and is later murdered in prison. The funeral was what really made this heart-breaking, seeing a brief flashback with him playing with Dave as a child]].
** Made even more gut-wrenching in the movie because [[spoiler:after Mr. Lizewski finds out that Dave is Kick-Ass, Dave coldly tells him that nobody will remember him (his dad) when he's gone. He acknowledges his regret in saying that at the funeral.]]
** Earlier, Red Mist [[spoiler: SHOOTS A BUNCH OF LITTLE KIDS IN THE FACE. IN BROAD DAYLIGHT.]]
** Not to mention [[spoiler: he also raped Katie, right AFTER he shot her father in the head.]]
* Volume 3: Issue 2 shows that Angie Genovese became a social outcast because of Chris's actions in Volume 2. This shows when [[spoiler: a relative of one of the people killed in Chris's rampage confronts her for it and spits in her face]]. This gets so bad that she [[spoiler: [[OffingTheOffspring contemplates killing Chris]] to prevent him from escaping from prison]].
** Near the end of Issue 2, a guard ([[spoiler: later revealed to be Colonel Stripes in disguise]]) notices Chris watching ''WesternAnimation/XMen.'' He questions why Chris would watch that, considering his moral stances. He then [[spoiler: casually reveals that he used to adore the X-Men as a child to the point where he would dress up as Wolverine on a daily basis]]. [[UsedToBeASweetKid It makes you wonder how he turned out the way he did]].

!! The Movie
* Might not resonate with some, but when Kick-Ass comes home aftera failed night of crime-fighting, he collapses into tears on his bed. While this might be PlayedForLaughs, it can feel pretty harsh when you think about how genuinely hard this guy is trying to save people, and the resulting hopelessness in his failure. It's a depressing sight.
* TearJerker: [[spoiler: The death of Big Daddy. The most impressive thing is that he manages to have both a CrowningMomentOfAwesome and a CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming right before it happens.]]
** [[spoiler: The saddest part is when he tries hardly to speak to his daughter while he's horribly burned]].
*** Three words: [[spoiler: ''*Show's over, motherfuckers*'']]
* Mindy never got to have her hot chocolate with her father...''*sniff*''
* A minor one in the first movie, when Dave approaches Chris at the beginning to invite him over to their table only to be brutally rebuffed by Chris' hulking bodyguard. Although it's played for laughs, the briefly hopeful expression on Chris' face when he sees Dave walking towards him is what lends it tragedy, along with the realization of how many times such a scene must have occurred in the past, resulting in Chris' isolation from other kids his age.
* In the Kick-Ass 2 movie, [[spoiler:Colonel Stars and Stripes's ''brutal'' murder by The Toxic Mega-Cunts. He is [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice fatally stabbed]], then he is decapitated by Mother Russia. Yet he is DefiantToTheEnd, and his last words (to his dog Eisenhower) are: "Justice forever!"]]
** [[spoiler:Not to mention how devastated he looks when The Motherfucker finds out Night Bitch's true identity, knowing that ''she's'' now in danger, and there's nothing that he can do to stop it.]]
** And also, [[spoiler:James Lizewski's death. He had falsely revealed himself as Kick-Ass so that his son would be safe, then he is murdered in jail by Chris D'Amico's goons. And Dave is [[KickTheDog texted the photo of his corpse]], whereupon he collapses to the floor sobbing.]]
* In the second movie [[spoiler: the murder of Javier while Chris is forced to listen over the phone.]] In spite of what an evil little shit Chris is, it's clear he does have something of a MoralityPet in Javier. They seem to have an almost brotherly friendship and Javier is the only person in the movie who genuinely seems to have Chris' best interests at heart, trying to dissuade him from some of his more extreme actions while still treating him kindly. Chris even admits that he [[ParentalSubstitute considers Javier to be the only real family he has left.]] [[spoiler: Is it any wonder that his murder marks the point where Chris really starts to go off the deep end?]]
