* ''BurstAngel'', a show which depicts most of Japan being pretty much overrun with criminals as a result of allowing the Japanese to possess guns, has a not so subtle picture in the end credits. It slowly reveals a photo collage of the characters in the show which not only looks just like the USA, but it is made of 50 photos to make sure that you know what they meant. This was funny for me though, since the USA has had the right to bear arms for more than 200 years, Canada has tons of guns used solely for hunting, and Switzerland orders every single male to keep their army rifles in working condition, but the Japanese apparently couldn't maintain order in this show even after a mere handful.
** [[TruthInTelevision Truth In Television]]: From the Japanese perspective the USA ''is'' overrun with [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_incarceration_rate criminals]] and [[http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_percap-crime-murders-per-capita violent]] [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Japan#Statistics crime]]. A severalfold difference in ratios is hard to argue against, which means the infamous [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRerwXWTRjM#t=5s exercise video / English lesson for tourists]] is more of a StereotypeReactionGag than a DiscreditedTrope.
*** As a resident of Japan, I would contest that the Japanese don't really feel this way about the USA at all. The crime rates may be higher, but countries which allow citizens to bear arms are not full of violent killers, mercenaries, and private armies as a result of this. The idea that lessened gun control would destroy a first world nation in a matter of years is more than a little bit ludicrous.
** Couple problems with that supposition. Incarceration rate does not equal number of violent crimes(mostly due to the harshest drug laws in the world). A lot more variable demographics in the USA can lead to more fighting in the cities as comparied to the nearly homogeneous Japan. The USA has a higher murder rate than most first world nations, but a lower burglary and theft rate. May have less to do with guns than just how things are since changes in gun laws that both increase and decrease the access to guns in the US have little effect on crime rates over a ten year period.
** You've got it backwards. In the backstory legalizing guns didn't cause the crime wave, an inexpicable rise in crime caused them to allow everyone to carry firearms. So if any thing it seems almost pro-gun, [[{{SpaceWhaleAesop}} at least if your country is suddenly overun with robots and monsters.]]
