** Kemlasulla is a biological take on the tripods from Franchise/TheWarOfTheWorlds.
** Sombarvot is the multi-legged lizards from Literature/JohnCarterofMars.

* Every pilot of [=MechaTyrantis=] is named after two characters each from the Franchise/JurassicPark franchise.

* Perry Martin is named after two famous roles of Creator/RaymondBurr. Namely, Franchise/PerryMason and Steve Martin from, of course, ''Film/GodzillaKingOfTheMonsters1956''.

* The entire part with the Martian kaiju is full of references to Franchise/TheWarOfTheWorlds. From metal transportation cylinders to biological look-alikes of the tripods/saucers to the usage of the word ulla.

** Tyranta is Ogra from Film/{{Gorgo}}.

** Bobo is both [[Franchise/{{Godzilla}} Kumonga]] and the titular monster of Film/{{Tarantula}}, with the personality of Mothra. Her name comes from "Boris the Spider" by Music/TheWho.
** Chlorespa is one for the monster wasps from Film/MonsterFromGreenHell.

** Kutulusca is Gezora from Film/SpaceAmoeba.

** Herakoschei is [[Film/PacificRim Cherno Alpha]], though its role is one for [[Franchise/{{Godzilla}} MOGUERA]]. Parts of its design are also inspired by [[Film/ForbiddenPlanet Robby the Robot.]]

** Promythigor is Film/KingKong, though he's meant to invoke giant ape monsterdom as a whole.

* The whole story takes place in TheFifties, the golden age of atomic monster movies. And the Superquake hits in 1954, the original release year of the Big G himself.
* The place that Tyrantis comes from is known as [[Film/TheBeastOfHollowMountain Hollow Mountain.]]
* Dr. Lerna is a student of [[Creator/RayHarryhausen Hausen University.]]

* The two scientists in Nevada, Dr. Jacobs and Dr. Deemer, are named after the two main scientists from Film/{{Tarantula}}.

* U.N.N.O. is a concept taken almost wholesale from Film/KingKongVsGodzilla.

* At the beginning of Volume 2, the team is attacked on their boat by a shark-like monster named Old Meg. Perhaps inevitably, Henry asks if [[Film/{{Jaws}} they could have used a bigger boat.]]
* Rinko Tsuburaya is named after both Creator/RinkoKikuchi (Mako Mori from Film/PacificRim) and the Father of Tokusatsu himself, Creator/EijiTsuburaya. Her being the daughter of a famous deceased scientist is from Emiko Yamane from Film/{{Gojira}}.
* Perry Martin is named after two famous roles of Creator/RaymondBurr. Namely, Franchise/PerryMason and Steve Martin from, of course, Film/GodzillaKingOfTheMonsters1956.
* The performance before The Thunder Lizards is Makoto and Nagisa Ito, a pair of identical sisters who sing in perfect sync. It's more than obvious that they're stand-ins for the Shobijin that worship [[Franchise/{{Godzilla}} Mothra.]]

* The Thunder Lizards are based on Music/TheBeatles, Music/TheRollingStones, Music/BuddyHolly, and Music/TheBigBopper. The song they sing for Tyrantis takes some lyrics from the theme of WesternAnimation/TheGodzillaPowerHour, and according to WordOfGod, it's sung close to the tune of "The Godzilla March" from Film/GodzillaVsGigan.

* People dying and/or passing out trying to pilot Herakoschei is based on a minor plot detail from Film/PacificRim.
* The Siberian Monster Zone is based off of the Lawless Monster Zone from Series/{{Ultraman}}.

* The last moments of the fight between Tyrantis and Promythigor contains homages to the ones in Film/KingKongVsGodzilla (the obvious PrimateVsReptile premise, Promythigor attempting to break Tyrantis' jaw, a monster sliding down a hill to get the other), and Film/GodzillaVsMegalon (Tyrantis gliding on his tail to kick another monster).
* After the TimeSkip, two events are brought up that reference films that came out between 1954 and 1958. They involve [[Film/BeginningOfTheEnd Chicago getting attacked by giant locusts]] and [[Film/TheGiantClaw a giant bird in New York.]]
