Although there were signs that it would be adapted as the season to follow ''Series/PowerRangersNinjaSteel'', Saban caught the majority of the fandom offguard by instead announcing that they would be adapting ''Series/TokumeiSentaiGobusters'' - which had previously been [[OutOfOrder passed over]] in favor of ''Series/ZyudenSentaiKyoryuger'' - as ''Series/PowerRangersBeastMorphers''[[note]]presumably, this was due to Bandai of America being involved with the production of ''Kyuranger''; since Bandai's chief toy industry rival Creator/{{Hasbro}} bought out the ''Power Rangers'' franchise wholesale during ''Ninja Steel''[='=]s run and is making the toys themselves from ''Beast Morphers'' onwards, adapting ''Kyuranger'' right away would be ill-advised[[/note]]. However, as ''Go-Busters'' itself was adapted OutOfOrder, this still means that ''Kyuranger'' could be adapted at a later point.

* OneExtraMember: The "Nine-rangers" have more than nine members. Lampshaded when Shou becomes the tenth and suggests they change the team name to match; but the others reject it. See PunBasedTitle below, and one of the {{Mythology Gag}}s on that page.

* Garu[=/=]Ookami Blue: ''The Beast Star''. [[PettingZooPeople An anthropomorphic wolf]] with a wild and untamed fighting style. His constellation is Lupus, the Wolf.

* MakeMyMonsterGrow: Zigzagged. Each Daikaan has an Enlarge Inrou [[note]](a traditional Japanese pocket box used for storing, among other things, medicines)[[/note]]that automatically revives and grows them if they die, but it's a one-time use item as they burst apart upon usage. However, some don't get to use them, instead opting to use Moraimarz in fighting mode. Vice-Shoguns get special treatment in this regard - a golden idol on their right shoulders that allow them to do this ''repeatedly''.

* ScaryDogmaticAliens: Anyone from Jark Matter could count, but there's also the matter of [[spoiler:Naga's countrymen from the Ophicius system. When they learn that Naga is now expressing his repressed emotions, they send someone to ''eliminate him.'']]

** The Hikari Kyutama can be used in either Sun or Moon mode. Both forms also power up a second Kyuranger, with the Sun giving Balance a bunch of extra energy while the Moon strengthens Garu, making him more poised and controlled.

** [[spoiler:Lunar Chameleon Green]] stroking the head of the upgraded Death Worm in ''Space 44'' looks WAY worse.

* SolarAndLunar: The Hikari Kyutama, which Lucky can use for Sun and Moon power-up forms.

* AlternateUniverse: ''Space 18'' cements the thesis that ''Kyuranger'' takes place in one, while reinforcing the idea that each Sentai series is its own universe while crossovers are at least one other different one, as five of the Kyurangers and Madako meet [[Series/SpaceSheriffGavan Gavan]] and the [[Series/TokusouSentaiDekaranger Dekarangers]] after travelling through a wormhole. The Kyurangers, in particular, are amazed at finding a peaceful universe protected by a SpacePolice.

* Kotaro Sakuma[=/=]Koguma Skyblue: ''The Big Star''. A [[KidHero young boy]] from Earth who [[JumpedAtTheCall eagerly joins the resistance]] against the Jark Matter occupation. His constellation is Ursa Minor, the Little Bear; but also has a powerup and his mecha is jointly based on Ursa Major, the Big Bear.

* EvolvingCredits: Unlike series before it, there is more frequency with this as the rangers are slowly being added rather than being complete at the start, so this is much more evident. There are even things like characters who only recently joined the team changing into their uniforms the next episode (for example, Lucky and Garu appear in their default outfit in the opening for the premiere, but after that episode they appear in their Rebellion uniforms). Also, when a character does not appear in the episode, they are shown in the opening credits without the actor's credit (for example, in the more recent episodes when Kotaro is away on training, Shota Taguchi's name does not appear on the credits even though he does, unless he has at least a bit part, such as in ''Space 17'').

* FiveManBand: Zigzagged. The team consists of nine rangers plus, but Shou Ronpo implements a rule such that only five can go out of the mission at a time. As this lasts for about an episode, it is hard to associate a ranger with a role other than Shishi Red being TheLeader.
* HumongousMecha: [=KyurenOh=], [=RyuteiOh=], Gigant Houou, and Orion Battler; the former two of which have multiple versions based on which Rangers combine with Shishi or Ryu Voyager.

* NonUniformUniform: Beyond usual things such as the suit colors and helmet designs, some rangers also have additional features. Taking Shishi Red as the default, we have:
** Sasori Orange has a stinger tail.

** Kajiki Yellow has the front of his visor extend forward, much like a sword.

* UtilityBelt: The Rangers' Kyu Buckle is where the Kyutama are stored and taken from if they need to use them, much like how the collectibles of Series/KaizokuSentaiGokaiger are pulled from their rangers' belt buckle.

* {{Constellations}}: The motif of the series, with each ranger being based off a different constellation.

** It also features a Sentai Ranger death, courtesy of [[spoiler:Scorpio blowing Champ to bits with his finisher]]. What's jarring here compared to other notable Ranger deaths (Sentai or PR) is that it happened on ''episode 16''; unlike the others which happened at either two-thirds of the story[[note]][[Series/BattleFeverJ Kensaku]] and [[Series/PowerRangersLostGalaxy Kendrix]][[/note]], near/during the final arc/episode[[note]][[Series/KyoryuSentaiZyuranger Burai]], [[Series/MiraiSentaiTimeranger Naoto]], [[Series/BakuryuuSentaiAbaranger Mikoto]], and [[Series/PowerRangersOperationOverdrive Mack]][[/note]], post-finale[[note]][[Series/ChoujinSentaiJetman Gai]][[/note]], or before the series began[[note]][[Series/TensouSentaiGoseiger Magis]] and the predecessors of [[Series/GoseiSentaiDairanger Dairangers]] and [[Series/SamuraiSentaiShinkenger Shinkengers]][[/note]]. Only [[Series/ChoudenshiBioman Mika's]] death happened earlier than [[spoiler:Champ]], with her dying on episode 10 of her series. Although it should be considered [[spoiler:that Champ [[WeCanRebuildHim underwent repairs]] at the Rebellion HQ and came back at ''Space 20''.]]

* DebutQueue: The first episode introduces [[ThreePlusTwo Champ, Hammie and Spada as the rangers before being joined by Lucky and Garu]], and Raptor 283 being the pilot of Orion but not a ranger. The second episode introduces Balance and Naga Ray. The third episode introduces Stinger and the team commander Shou Ronpo.
* DemotedToExtra: Most works involving the constellations like ''Anime/SaintSeiya'' or ''Series/KamenRiderFourze'' will give special priority to the twelve signs of the Zodiac, emphasising the completed lineup, but here we have some of them like Cancer and Pisces relegated to attack powerups while lesser-known ones like the eagle, swordfish and chameleon are turned into Rangers alongside known ones like Libra, Taurus and Leo. It helps avoid SmallReferencePools in a way.

* OrangeBlueContrast: Stinger and Kotaro, the Orange and Sky Blue Rangers, are considered a two-man team within the show.

* PunBasedTitle: The word "kyu" can apply in many ways here. It can mean "nine" and there are nine core rangers. It can also mean "sphere" or "globe", which part of their design revolves around, particularly the collectibles. "Kyu" also ties into the word for "starsign"[[note]]kodo junikyu[[/note]]. The Japanese words for "ultimate"[[note]]''kyūkyoku''[[/note]] and "savior"[[note]]''kyūseishu''[[/note]] begin with ''kyu'', so the Kyurangers are sometimes referred to as "the ultimate saviors"[[note]]''kyūkyoku no kyūseishu''[[/note]] or "the nine saviors"[[note]]''kyūnin no kyūseishu''[[/note]] as puns on their name.
