Actually, it's not. After the first few episodes where the kids get used to their new situation, they go on a mission to bring the adults back. Many fans started watching the series to prove that it was a rip-off of ''Gone'' or ''The Tribe'', and ended up actually liking it.
The series consists of one season so far, and a second season is in the making.
As of 11 February 2013, Season Two has begun airing on CBBC in the UK. Most of the kids have made it back.
The main characters of the series are:
* Sadiq, the {{Nice Guy}} and either {{The Hero}} or {{The Lancer}} depending on the circumstances.
* Kat, a smart, but [[ControlFreak controlling]] girl who fights Sadiq for the [[TheHero leader role]].
* Reese, a brave {{Child Prodigy}}, who is deterement to solve the mystery from the start.
* Tia, Sadiq's neighbor and the {{Team Mom}} of the group, who cares a lot about her appearance.
* Jeffrey, a smart and caring guy with cerebral palsy.
* Jordan, Jeffrey's younger brother, who spends most of his time looking out for his brother.
* Ami, {{The Chick}} of the group who often has some trouble with his diabetes.
* Holly, a [[DeadpanSnarker snarky]] and stubborn girl who ''strongly'' dislikes Reese. [[spoiler: Does a FaceHeelTurn in Season 2]]
* Franky, Sadiq's [[AnnoyingYoungerSibling little sister]], who's an expert at getting into trouble.
* Liam, a younger neighbor of Kat's, who [[TagalongKid tags along]] with her from the start.
* And [[spoiler: [[SixthRanger Callum]], a bully who starts working with the gang [[LoveRedeems in order to get together with Kat]] He becomes a sherrif in season 2, keeping order among the tribes..]]
Series 2 gives us
* Rocky, a {{Jerkass}} to Jeffrey because he's with Tia. [[spoiler: He actually is the cause of there breakup]].
* [[TagalongKid Huen]], another child with [[CreepyChild powers...]][[spoiler:He turns out to be controlling Reese and gets kicked out. He turns down the offer to join the Dims, although he gives them the next clue.]]
* Sarina, Sadiq's crush who's a double agent.
Other characters include
* Fizzy, the BigBad until his tribe kicks him out.
* Ernesto, Leader of Rebels by Series 2 looks like Che. Also the de facto leader of the Freedom Four which include: himself, Fizzy, [[spoiler: Holly and Reese]]
* Muna, a girl trapped between dimensions.

* AdultsAreUseless: Well... The only adult in their world is Anita, who pretty much fits this trope. And the adults in the other world are unable to reunite the worlds - the kids have to do it! Doomsday Dora does pretty well, as although unable to fix it herself she helps the kids, giving them the key (presumably either the treasures are divided between dimensions or the key is too far away for kids but easy for adults with planes and a functioning government) and telling them of the Quantum Nexus.
** But they ''do'' manage to turn off the nuclear reactors.
* AfterTheEnd
* AngryGuardDog: In ''The Emergency''. Reece manages to calm him down briefly by finding his toy and talking to him with psychic powers.
* BeAsUnhelpfulAsPossible: Justified for Holly - [[spoiler:she doesn't want to have to put up with her parents' arguing.]] After this is pointed out, she starts being slightly more helpful.
* BerserkButton: Holly, whenever someone says anything positive to or about Reese.
** Kat may count to, when people annoy her or act like they are better than her.
* BigBad: Fizzy, the small kid who the kids steal the train from in Season 1, is a dictator in Season 2.
* BoardingSchoolOfHorrors: The gang stumbles upon one of those.
* BystanderSyndrome:
** Many kids who are not a part of The Sparticles seems to think this about solving problems.
** Flora, Fauna and the other girls Tia and Jeffrey let stay at the hotel had this attitude about everything.
* ChildHater: Anita, something that is ''unfortunate'' given the situation she's in...
* ChildrenAreInnocent: To be this kind of series; yes, they are.
* ControlFreak: Kat
** And even much more so: Jeremy, the boarding school leader they met on the mission.
* [[DangerousSixteenthBirthday Dangerous Fifteenth Birthday]]: Well, Tia believes it is. [[spoiler: she is wrong. They 'survive' their fifteenth birthday, as the split was a one-time event, not a constant one.]]
* DisabledMeansHelpless: When it comes to Jeffrey, people seems to think this. Especially his brother Jordan, who has to be ''told by the others'' that his ''older'' brother can take care of himself!
** Totally averted with Holly, although the other characters doesn't even seem to notice that she lacks half an arm. It doesn't really help that in most scenes she pretends to have two full arms.
** Season 2 averts it for both of them, Jeffrey's palsy not even coming up, although his unexplained tribal staff is presumably related, and Holly mostly continuing to act as before, although she gets a medieval iron arm at one point when they come across a castle. She leaves with it but, like Jeff's staff, it comes and goes with no real explanation.
* DisabledSnarker: Holly, even though she's not really that ''disabled'', if you take the word literally.
* EmpathyDollShot: Subverted in ''The Emergency'' - it belongs to a dog (who's still there).
* FantasyKitchenSink: Chakras, laylines, psychic powers, made-up science... [[spoiler:Megan invokes this later on.]]
* GenderEqualEnsemble: [[spoiler:Before Callum joins, the Sparticles are like this. If Megan joins then they'll be one again. Season 2 makes it more male than female.]]
** As of the end of series 2 we're left with: [[spoiler: Sadiq, Tia, Liam and Frankie]], so they're equal
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: Callum, although it's basically just [[LoveRedeems because he likes Kat]].]]
* HeyYou: Holly almost always call Reece "you" or "her/she".

* LastDayToLive: Tia gets a mild example. Of course, she's wrong - the Sparticle Project separated the sparticles from the particles, it didn't create a situation where sparticles automatically exist in the other world.
* LogicBomb: The cast ask NANCI lots of stupid questions to shut him down in ''The Fallout''.

* [[PlanetOfHats Tribe/City of Hats]]: Most of Season 2's tribes use this, although given the circumstances most of them make sense. Some, like the Featherheads and the Traders, make use of what resources were left, whereas some, like Peace City or the History Tribe, base themselves around ideals. The Sparticles and the Dims are the only real exceptions, although the first were possibly the first to become an organized tribe (they were referred to as the Sparticle Tribe in reasonably early Season 1, whereas most groups gained "X Tribe" monikers between the seasons).
* PutOnABus: Most of the Sparticles from Season at the start of Season 2 there is only: Sadiq, Reese, Holly, Liam and Frankie. Later on Tia an Jeffrey join and Holly does a [[spoiler:FaceHeelTurn]]. Rocky then joins in Episode 2. Don't forget Huen.
** It is later explained that Ami and Jordan lost hope and went to France and Kat is solving the Nuclear issues.

* PsychicPowers: Reece. Huen and a few background characters too, with incredibly exponential power combination when they come together. Their powers seem to be fairly varied, although they seem to consist of telepathy, telekinesis, mind control (although only when more powerful), control of electrics (possibly an extension of telekinesis by the way we see it used), translation of Oghum (the ancient language, although she needed to see it first) and peering through dimensions. It's boosted through leylines and multiple psychics working together.
* RelationshipUpgrade: Callum convinces Tia and Jeffery to get one. Due to Rocky's interference, they upgrade and downgrade again so much it becomes pointless trying to keep track.
* SadisticChoice: In ''The Emergency'' - go and get the adults back and let some babies die, or stay and help the babies and let the world's power plants go nuclear. Subverted in that they manage to get the best of both options.
* TagalongKid: Frankie and Liam.
