* AdultsAreUseless: One clip shows a mother who apparently didn't think she had enough room for a plastic drawer unit in her trunk. So, she put the item in the back seats, and made her kids (one of them, a baby) ride in the trunk. In another clip, a careless father stuck his baby daughter on a jet ski and let it take off. There is also one clip where a father gets so drunk in a strip club, he forgets where he parked his semi truck, where his son was '''alone'''.
** Another clip shows a pair of very young children (as in younger than four years old) who go into a candy store and attempt to walk out with some candy. It is later discovered that they evidently managed to get out of the house without either of their parents noticing. One of the commentators even pokes fun at this trope by saying "I'm sorry officer, they were only supposed to be out getting cigarettes, they didn't say anything about getting candy".
* AffectionateParody: They did one once of the reality show "Blind Date", complete with Roger Lodge hosting.

* AndNowForSomethingCompletelyDifferent: Lampshaded in "World's Dumbest Partiers 4", which features a clip of a party turned into a riot in Panama; the announcer and all of the commentators speak Spanish, and the segment is highlighted by a sock puppet with a sambrero, large googly eyes, and a stereotypical Hispanic mustache named Bill Thompson.
* BeachEpisode: This happens whenever they show a clip of someone on the beach.
* BigEater: Mike Trainor likes to talk or think about food.
* BriefAccentImitation: Anytime the dialogue has a voice-over dubbed for a clip. Often, if the clip is from a foreign country, an appropriate accent for the culture is dubbed, however, most of the time, the voice actor seems to almost always rely on a Speedy Gonzales-esque accent for just about anyone the clip is focused on.
* BrotherChuck: Sort of. During the first season, the show not only featured comedians and actors as commentators, but also real life judges, cops, private investigators, security guards for the "Dumbest Criminals" episodes. By the 2nd season, they were all dropped.
** Every now and again, Ron Kuby makes an appearance, but that's about it.
** Most of those dropped commentators appear on another [=TruTV=] franchise, Disorder in the Court. Possibly the move towards LighterAndSofter prompted them to shift their more sober commentators to a more sober show.
* ButtMonkey: There must be an unspoken motto on this show - "When in doubt, make fun of Leif Garrett." Leif even lampshaded it once by flat out asking "Why does everyone always pick on me?"
** Tonya Harding seems to be Brad Loekle's current personal Butt Monkey, and before was Judy Gold's.

* CanonDiscontinuity: They regularly comment on how they've never shown a clip of someone successfully stealing an ATM on the show. * CampGay: Practically half the cast of commentators is made up of gay personalities.
* CaptainObvious: There are moments where the cast members aren't really making jokes at the videos, and tend to just be narrating what's going on, as if [[ViewersAreMorons we, the viewers, can't figure it out ourselves]].
** This was very prevalent in the early episodes where there were less gags and jabs at the people on the video (and each other).

* CurbStompBattle: Is shown occasionally. Such as the 78-year-old man VS a 20-something pickpocket. [[BadassGrandpa Said 78-year-old man was a former Marine, iron worker, and Golden Gloves boxer.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: Kevin [=McCaffrey=], Chelsea Peretti, Brad Loekle, Chuck Nice and Billy Kimball are pretty much this 100% of the time.
** In one clip, police officers ask a man pulled over for drunk driving if he is aware of the time. Without skipping a beat, he responds with [[RefugeInAudacity "half-past monkey's ass, a quarter to his balls."]]
** In another clip, a police officer is shown during a traffic stop where he's pulled over a middle-aged woman for speeding. Said woman attempted to talk her way out of the ticket by telling the police officer she thought pretty girls were never issued tickets. In a split second, the police officer responded with, "Oh, so you thought we didn't give pretty girls tickets? You're right, we don't -- sign here." Even the professional comedians on the show were impressed.
* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment: The newest volume is called World's Dumbest Dummies.
* DontExplainTheJoke: Danny Bonaduce and Judy Gold are chronic offenders.
* DumbBlonde: All the commentors accuse Tonya of being this. This applies to several of the women shown in clips.
* DumbMuscle: Expect this most of the time if they show a clip of a guy with a muscular physique or a bodybuilder.
* EpicFail: Of course this show thrives on it. One example is a robber who put a ''clear plastic bag'' over his head, using is as a ''mask''.

* FunnyBackgroundEvent: In a "Smartest Inventions" clip, we see a crappy improv troupe steal their roommate's drink from their refrigerator, and one of the players in the back of the group shot is wearing a huge, fake mustache... and ''none'' of the commentators even notice this!

** A different clip featured a police officer pulling into a [=McDonald's=] drive-thru with a criminal in his backseat. The criminal bails as the cop is waiting for his food, and gets away.
** Another clip showed the blatant cheating in an Indian college, as well as the cops who were there to watch for cheaters getting bribed by the families of the teachers.
* PoliticalCorrectnessGoneMad: Brad Loekle was once bleeped for saying "Arab", even though the criminal viewed in the present clip was Arab. Brad was also once bleeped for "faggot", even though Brad himself is gay. Guess he doesn't have NWordPrivileges.

* WiseBeyondTheirYears: One episode featured a clip, which was number one on the list, where a nine-year-old girl was able to drive her drunk father to a convenience store. The girl's father even tells the store clerk how well his daughter drove for her age.
* WithFriendsLikeThese: As Chuck Nice once explained, "If your friends are laughing at you while you're being swept down a river... they're not your friends."
** Another clip involves a group of friends getting another friend drunk. Then the guy whose house it was gets mad and demands the drunken friend leave, "accidentally" pushing the drunk backwards down a flight of stairs, the drunk ending his fall unconscious. One of the friends suggests they give him a pillow and leave him there. They call paramedics (eventually).
** Often, if a person is shown having injured themselves seriously and the camera keeps rolling, at least one of the commentators will question why they won't just put the camera down and call for help.
** A guy eats a flaming Dorito, and his mouth (understandably) hurts. His "friend" convinces him to eat kitty litter from a litter box, and then '''begs''' him to eat one of the cat turds in the litter box.
** Two guys bungee jump while tied into a shopping cart. Once they land, they're pulled onto a raft, and the first is untied and gets out... and pushes the cart into the water. After a minute, they realize that the other guy probably isn't going to come back up on his own...
* WolverinePublicity: You'd think Danny Bonaduce and Tonya Harding are the "main stars" of the show, even though most of the presenters get equal spotlight.

* AdultsAreUseless: One clip shows a mother who apparently didn't think she had enough room for a plastic drawer unit in her trunk. So, she put the item in the back seats, and made her kids (one of them, a baby) ride in the trunk. In another clip, a careless father stuck his baby daughter on a jet ski and let it take off. There is also one clip where a father gets so drunk in a strip club, he forgets where he parked his semi truck, where his son was '''alone'''.
** Another clip shows a pair of very young children (as in younger than four years old) who go into a candy store and attempt to walk out with some candy. It is later discovered that they evidently managed to get out of the house without either of their parents noticing. One of the commentators even pokes fun at this trope by saying "I'm sorry officer, they were only supposed to be out getting cigarettes, they didn't say anything about getting candy".
* AffectionateParody: They did one once of the reality show "Blind Date", complete with Roger Lodge hosting.
** They also did one of ''Most Shocking/Daring'' involving a clip where [[FelonyMisdemeanor a man in a monkey costume slaps someone's burger out of their hands]]. They even managed to get the narrator of that show to drop plenty of over-the-top melodrama and [[IncrediblyLamePun incredibly lame puns]].

* AlcoholInducedIdiocy: Often, particularly the reason for most of the World's Dumbest Partiers. And drivers. And brawlers. And...well, let's just say that it's probably the main reason for being featured on the show.
* AndNowForSomethingCompletelyDifferent: Lampshaded in "World's Dumbest Partiers 4", which features a clip of a party turned into a riot in Panama; the announcer and all of the commentators speak Spanish, and the segment is highlighted by a sock puppet with a sambrero, large googly eyes, and a stereotypical Hispanic mustache named Bill Thompson.
* BeachEpisode: This happens whenever they show a clip of someone on the beach.
* BigEater: Mike Trainor likes to talk or think about food.
* BriefAccentImitation: Anytime the dialogue has a voice-over dubbed for a clip. Often, if the clip is from a foreign country, an appropriate accent for the culture is dubbed, however, most of the time, the voice actor seems to almost always rely on a Speedy Gonzales-esque accent for just about anyone the clip is focused on.
* BrotherChuck: Sort of. During the first season, the show not only featured comedians and actors as commentators, but also real life judges, cops, private investigators, security guards for the "Dumbest Criminals" episodes. By the 2nd season, they were all dropped.
** Every now and again, Ron Kuby makes an appearance, but that's about it.
** Most of those dropped commentators appear on another [=TruTV=] franchise, Disorder in the Court. Possibly the move towards LighterAndSofter prompted them to shift their more sober commentators to a more sober show.
* ButtMonkey: There must be an unspoken motto on this show - "When in doubt, make fun of Leif Garrett." Leif even lampshaded it once by flat out asking "Why does everyone always pick on me?"
** Tonya Harding seems to be Brad Loekle's current personal Butt Monkey, and before was Judy Gold's.

* CanonDiscontinuity: They regularly comment on how they've never shown a clip of someone successfully stealing an ATM on the show. Even though there's been at least 2 videos of [=ATMs=] being successfully stolen, one involving a large group of people working together, and the other the man loading an ATM into his car via a forklift, though he failed to steal a SECOND ATM.
* CampGay: Practically half the cast of commentators is made up of gay personalities.
* CaptainObvious: There are moments where the cast members aren't really making jokes at the videos, and tend to just be narrating what's going on, as if [[ViewersAreMorons we, the viewers, can't figure it out ourselves]].
** This was very prevalent in the early episodes where there were less gags and jabs at the people on the video (and each other).
* CelebrityStar: One episode, "World's Dumbest Bracket Showdown", featured "special celebrity guest commentator, Charles Barkley".

* CharacterTic: Kevin [=McCaffrey=] often shrugs his arms while commenting on the stupidity in the videos. Danny Bonaduce points at the camera a lot.
** Gary Busey likes to look directly into the camera, and act all philosophical, as if the clip we just watched has an Aesop moral to it.
** Danny Bonaduce likes to break things with his head, any chance he gets.
** Brad Loekle likes to take his clothes off. A lot.
** Daisy Gardner has a tendency to glance off to the side frequently whenever she comments.

Gary was the only one to point out that the real dumb person was the one who left the truck unlocked to begin with, not the child who was just following his instincts and curiosity.
* ClusterFBomb: Frequently by people shown in the video clips, not unusual from commentators (Judy Gold and Frank Stallone seem the most prone to it, but nearly everyone's cut loose a few times).
* CompensatingForSomething: Apparently Judy Gold believes that every man with an even somewhat expensive car has a small penis.
* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer: A certain "Dumbest Partiers" episode featured a video clip from a video game convention and people dressed up as video game characters such as [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Mario, Luigi]], [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Link]], etc. The narrator and commentators however, kept referring to the footage as being of a "comic book convention", with people dressed up as "comic book characters".
* CurbStompBattle: Is shown occasionally. Such as the 78-year-old man VS a 20-something pickpocket. [[BadassGrandpa Said 78-year-old man was a former Marine, iron worker, and Golden Gloves boxer.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: Kevin [=McCaffrey=], Chelsea Peretti, Brad Loekle, Chuck Nice and Billy Kimball are pretty much this 100% of the time.
** In one clip, police officers ask a man pulled over for drunk driving if he is aware of the time. Without skipping a beat, he responds with [[RefugeInAudacity "half-past monkey's ass, a quarter to his balls."]]
** In another clip, a police officer is shown during a traffic stop where he's pulled over a middle-aged woman for speeding. Said woman attempted to talk her way out of the ticket by telling the police officer she thought pretty girls were never issued tickets. In a split second, the police officer responded with, "Oh, so you thought we didn't give pretty girls tickets? You're right, we don't -- sign here." Even the professional comedians on the show were impressed.
* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment: The newest volume is called World's Dumbest Dummies.
* DontExplainTheJoke: Danny Bonaduce and Judy Gold are chronic offenders.
* DumbBlonde: All the commentors accuse Tonya of being this. This applies to several of the women shown in clips.
* DumbMuscle: Expect this most of the time if they show a clip of a guy with a muscular physique or a bodybuilder.
* EpicFail: Of course this show thrives on it. One example is a robber who put a ''clear plastic bag'' over his head, using is as a ''mask''.
* EverythingsEvenWorseWithSharks[=/=]NeverSmileAtACrocodile: Every time you see a guy handling a shark or a crocodile, he's going to get bit. [[HumansAreMorons Every. Time.]]
* FormerChildStar: [[ThePartridgeFamily Danny Bonaduce]], [[DiffrentStrokes Todd Bridges]], and Leif Garrett all qualify.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: In a "Smartest Inventions" clip, we see a crappy improv troupe steal their roommate's drink from their refrigerator, and one of the players in the back of the group shot is wearing a huge, fake mustache... and ''none'' of the commentators even notice this!

Over the years, the focus has shifted more from criminals to the point that there are so many different themes episodes focus on, that rarely, if ever, do we focus on dumb criminals anymore.

* MoodWhiplash: There is one cute clip of a cat swiping at a dog from the safety of a jar. During the end credits, the cast is told that the cat had died a few years later, and the cast's faces turn from the usual smirking to gasping sadness. Except for Mike Trainor, who said "Oh. Good!"
** In some of the earlier episodes, the show shared footage with ''Most Shocking''. This could happen if you saw something that was taken as dead-serious in ''Most Shocking'' being spoofed and laughed at in ''World's Dumbest'', or vice-versa.
* NobodyCanDie: None of the individuals in the clips end up dead as a result of their actions in the clip, but with one exception, from way back in the first episode, it was never mentioned that the person died.

The most notorious example involved three police cars chasing a fugitive, the fugitive turns his getaway car around, goes in circles for several moments, and the cops...follow suit.
** A different clip featured a police officer pulling into a [=McDonald's=] drive-thru with a criminal in his backseat. The criminal bails as the cop is waiting for his food, and gets away.
** Another clip showed the blatant cheating in an Indian college, as well as the cops who were there to watch for cheaters getting bribed by the families of the teachers.
* PoliticalCorrectnessGoneMad: Brad Loekle was once bleeped for saying "Arab", even though the criminal viewed in the present clip was Arab. Brad was also once bleeped for "faggot", even though Brad himself is gay. Guess he doesn't have NWordPrivileges.

* SignatureStyle: Most of the commentators have unique ways of telling jokes they'll often fall back on, considering most are comedians. Todd Bridges often acts out the ridiculous stunts that happen, [[PungeonMaster Bonaduce]] will drop [[IncrediblyLamePun incredibly lame puns]], Tonya will try to explain what happened in her own twisted logic, while flanked by confused [[ReactionShot reaction shots]] of the other commentators; Michael Loftus will use [[SayingSoundEffectsOutLoud ridiculous sound effects]], Frank Stallone will [[SirSwearsALot swear a lot]] [[EagleLand and bash other countries]], and so on.

* SketchShow: While not an actual sketch show, this show does include a number of recurring segments, including "911 Center" (with a random cast member listening to a dumb 911 call), "Chemistry 101 with Professor Tonya Harding" (Tonya Harding using clips to deliver scientific lectures), "The World's Dumbest News" (Kevin [=McCaffery=] is the anchor, Ted Jessup is the newseditor, various different cast members are field reporters), "Instant Replay" (Roger Lodge on an ESPN-esque sports show, offering blow-by-blow details of a sports or competition related clip), among others.
* SmallNameBigEgo: Frank Stallone seems to believe this of not only himself, but all musicians, including getting angry at a cop for not treating an obviously drunk [[ThePartidgeFamily David Cassidy]] with the respect Frank felt he deserved.

** Another clip showed ''the same teenage boy'' whose parents got him an old jeep/truck for his 16th birthday, saying this would be something he could beat up and ruin. ** A drunk sitting in a police car in one clip seems to be so pickled he's reduced to barking out in angry, drunken babbling. It gets to the point where Brad wonders if the man [[DemonicPossession isn't speaking in tongues]].

** Once while imitating something in a previous clip, Danny Bonaduce wound up [[ItMakesSenseInContext ripping off one of his eyebrows with superglue and packing tape]]. His reaction? Other than a shout of pain - "Why would you let me do that?!?"
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: One episode featured a clip, which was number one on the list, where a nine-year-old girl was able to drive her drunk father to a convenience store. The girl's father even tells the store clerk how well his daughter drove for her age.
* WithFriendsLikeThese: As Chuck Nice once explained, "If your friends are laughing at you while you're being swept down a river... they're not your friends."
** Another clip involves a group of friends getting another friend drunk. Then the guy whose house it was gets mad and demands the drunken friend leave, "accidentally" pushing the drunk backwards down a flight of stairs, the drunk ending his fall unconscious. One of the friends suggests they give him a pillow and leave him there. They call paramedics (eventually).
** Often, if a person is shown having injured themselves seriously and the camera keeps rolling, at least one of the commentators will question why they won't just put the camera down and call for help.
** A guy eats a flaming Dorito, and his mouth (understandably) hurts. His "friend" convinces him to eat kitty litter from a litter box, and then '''begs''' him to eat one of the cat turds in the litter box.
** Two guys bungee jump while tied into a shopping cart. Once they land, they're pulled onto a raft, and the first is untied and gets out... and pushes the cart into the water. After a minute, they realize that the other guy probably isn't going to come back up on his own...
* WolverinePublicity: You'd think Danny Bonaduce and Tonya Harding are the "main stars" of the show, even though most of the presenters get equal spotlight.
