* AuthorityGrantsAsskicking: Wraith Queens are generally less physically powerful than their subordinates, although their telepathic skills are usually much stronger. The Wraith 'King' in "Sateda" on the other hand is by far the strongest member of his hive. After Ronon kills off increasingly bigger waves of Wraith hunters and warriors that his enemy sends after him, he taunts him to come down himself. The Wraith takes the challenge, and quickly curbstomps Ronon, forcing Beckett to kill him with a drone weapon. Considering the fierce nature of Wraith society this may even be an inversion, in that he might be King precisely because he's so strong.

* TheNicknamer: John Sheppard give snames to the various Wraith they meet, including Steve, Bob, Todd, and Michael. (The Wraith either don't have names or don't tell Humans their names, so Sheppard generally gives them very ordinary, human nicknames to make up for it). Lt. Ford tries to name a lot of things, but he is repeatedly shot down by the master (aforementioned John Sheppard), most notably in the debate between calling the Lantian Shuttle "Gate Ship" (It's a ship that goes through the 'Gate!) or Sheppard's version: Puddle Jumper. Sheppard wins out in the end. The "Gate Ship" name turns out to be a favorite of McCay's, and, in an alternate timeline, this is the name he gives to the one created by Janus. Also, it's implied that this is the original Lantian name for the craft.

However, after the Atlantis expedition finds the city, they quickly discover that the shield's power is nearly depleted and that its failure threatens to cause a massive flood.

* MagicSquarePuzzle: "The Brotherhood" is all about this puzzle. First version, the eight pieces of movable numbers are arranged in a grid square over a wide area of land. In the final puzzle, nine pieces with the numbers 1-9 were placed. One piece fits into a certain slot in the middle of the grid, and the eight others were placed around it. After witnessing one Mook get killed by an incorrect arrangement, Sheppard solves the puzzle by realizing that the numbers 1-9 can be placed in a grid to add up to 15 in all directions. Of course, there's a certain element of FridgeLogic to the fact that quite a few different such arrangements are possible, but one can HandWave this by claiming that any of them would have worked.

"batteries' to power the Stargate to the level necessary to dial an eight-chevron address, and are also facing the potential threat of a Wraith assault when the city doesn't have the power to operate most of its defences. The mid-season two-parter focuses on them finding a way to operate the city's shields in the absence of a ZPM when faced with a devastating storm, forcing them to use a complex alternative involving powering the shields with lightning that requires them to evacuate most of the city. These issues are removed from the start of the second season; while power is still a concern, the expedition are able to acquire at least one ZPM at a time to sustain the city's essential systems.

** This makes the line, "Spinning is so much cooler than not spinning!" from SG-1's 200th episode even funnier, since "200" aired a few years after Atlantis started and the line is probably a light-hearted jab at Atlantis.

Funnily enough, the Milky Way gates don't spin either - not even the inside ring... except for manually dialling, and yes, the Earth's Stargate which doesn't use a DHD (hinting that the SGC's dialling system actually simulates a manual dial, rather than a proper DHD-style dial). Which gives the weird result that both gate systems look more advanced than the other... from certain points of view.
