* AdaptationDyeJob: In ''Scoundrels'' the West twins are blondes, while in ''Series/OutrageousFortune'' they were brunettes.

* AmoralAttorney: {{Downplayed|Trope}} with Logan. While he's almost always a by-the-book lawyer and doesn't screw over people or his clients, he's not above using a few dirty tricks to get the edge on a case. Or getting his family to do it for him.

** Charlie, one of Wolf's criminal partners, is often seen playing pool at a bar whenever Cheryl meets him there.

* BrainlessBeauty: Heather is a HeadTurningBeauty, but is quite TheDitz and considered stupid by most of her family, especially Hope. But she does have moments to show she's [[ObfuscatingStupidity not as dumb as she looks]], such as when she scams her rapist SmoothTalkingTalentAgent and leaves him ChainedToABed.
* BrainyBrunette: Hope is a very intelligent, dark-haired girl who thinks she's too smart for school. It also [[TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry contrasts with her older sister]] Heather who's a DumbBlonde and a BrainlessBeauty.
* BrattyHalfPint: Hope is a young and smart LittleMissSnarker with a huge ego, which often annoys her older siblings.

* BuxomIsBetter: When Cal is recounting his encounter with [[MrsRobinson Nina Hong]] to his buddies, he mostly talks about how big her breasts are.

* ChickMagnet: Despite being a dumb deadbeat, Cal attracts a lot of attractive women, such as Nina, Tanya, and Patty.
* ClingyJealousGirl: When they start dating, Tanya becomes incredibly obsessed and territorial with Cal. To the point she changes his bed just so she can't be reminded he slept with other women in it.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Granpa West used to be a master thief, but getting old has just made him an eccentric old man whose oddities are PlayedForLaughs, such as him burning down his own house to move in with his family.

* CrazyJealousGuy: Wolf becomes increasingly paranoid about his wife cheating on him while he's stuck in jail, especially when he learns she's working for an old associate of his that is a major sleazebag. So much so he breaks his CodeOfHonour and [[TheStoolPigeon snitches on him]].
* DaddysGirl: Heather is a daddy's princess and is clearly Wolf's favorite child.

* DudeMagnet: Heather has no trouble attracting boys and sometimes even took advantage of their interest in her to con them.

* FashionModel: Heather's life dream is to be a supermodel.

* FemmeFatale: Heather knows how to use her sex appeal to pull cons on men.

* HeadTurningBeauty: Heather is a very attractive young woman, to the point it only take one modeling photoshoot for her to attract modeling scouts.

* HotTeacher: Logan's LoveInterest, Vice-Principal Valerie is incredibly attractive and he started dating her back when [[TeacherStudentRomance she was his teacher in high school]].
* TheImmodestOrgasm: According to Carl Tanya is incredibly loud during sex.
* InspectorJavert: Sergeant Mack is a cop who acts as an antagonist that hounds the West family, knowing they're knee-deep in thievery and cons.

* LittleMissSnarker: Hope is the youngest member of the West family, but has a major sarcastic wit.

* LysistrataGambit: Valerie gets so tired of being {{Blackmail}}ed by Hope that she withholds sex with Logan until he gets Hope to destroy the photos used to blackmail them.
* MafiaPrincess: Patty Hong, the beautiful, spoiled and bossy daughter of the Asian gangster Mr. Hong.
* MamaBear: Stopping her children from going to jail is Cheryl's primary motivation throughout the series.

* ManOfWealthAndTaste: All of the Hongs are always wearing expensive clothes, drinking expensive beverages and doing luxurious activities.

* TheMovieBuff: Hope loves films and makes references to them often, as does her BestFriend Tad. Which is why they're trying to make a film together, despite being in high school.
* MrsRobinson: Nina Hong, the old but still attractive TrophyWife of Mr. Hong, who seduces Cal while he's [[CheatingWithTheMilkman working at Mr.Hong's house]] and gets him further in trouble with the Hongs. And she's apparently such a SexGoddess Cal struggles to keep up with her, despite him being much younger... though he gets a reminder of her true age when one AutoErotica attempt ends with her [[CrackOhMyBack hurting her back]]. [[spoiler:When she gets pregnant, it's revealed she never cared that much for Cal specifically, she just wanted to get pregnant to [[TheBabyTrap assure her gold ticket with her husband]], who's likely infertile.]]

* PetTheDog: Patty might be a mean spoiled bitch MafiaPrincess, but she doesn't tell on Cal for sleeping with her stepmother, because she ''knows'' her father would actually kill Cal if he ever found out.

* ReformedButRejected: Despite Cheryl being serious about reforming herself and her family, she's still hounded by Sergent Mack who doesn't believe they can ever go straight, because of thievery in InTheBlood for her family. "Once a West always a West". Once he sees that she really means it, he realizes how awful his attitude was and apologizes.

* ScatterBrainedSenior: Grandpa West has become somewhat delirious at his old age, burning down his old house and even thinking his wife is still alive.

* SingleMomStripper: To better support her family, Heather first becomes a cocktail waitress at a strip club then upgrades to being a FamilyFriendlyStripper on occasion at the club. Her mother is not happy about it when she finds out.

* TheTriadsAndTheTongs: The "Hongs" are the local Asian crime syndicate, who are much more dangerous than the West, who always stuck to petty crimes. Cal gets into trouble when he burglarizes their home and steals a family heirloom. To keep Call off jail, Cheryl has to use the family's life savings to pay off part of the debt and orders Cal to [[WorkOffTheDebt work for the Hongs until the debt is fully paid]].

* UpperClassEquestrian: Mr. Hong's TrophyWife Nina Hong is an equestrian by hobby, although she also uses it as an excuse to drive there with Cal to [[CheatingWithTheMilkman sleep with him]]. She also deliberately uses the whip to make herself look like a {{Dominatrix}}.
* TheUnFavourite: Logan is by far Wolf's least favorite child, due to forsaking the "business" and becoming a law-abiding lawyer. To the point Wolf thinks he only got 7 years in jail because Logan deliberately made a bad defense. When Logan complains Wolf won't say goodbye to him at Billy's funeral, Wolf tells him "There's nothing I love better than saying goodbye to ''you''"

* WhiteSheep: Cheryl's desire to reform her family is inspired by her son Logan, who has distanced himself from the family business of petty crimes and has recently become a lawyer. His father Wolf on the other hand, who believes that crime is InTheBlood for the Wests, views Logan as a BlackSheep and TheUnfavorite for not only spurning the family business but for becoming a "do-gooder" lawyer of all things.
* WickedStepmother: When Patty Hong tells Cal about her stepmother Nina, she literally calls her a "wicked stepmother", and it's clear the two don't have a good relationship, with Patty only seeing Nina as a TrophyWife for her father.
* WomanScorned: Valerie is very pissed off when she finds out Logan slept with Patty Hong behind her back. When she dumps him she hands him a bill for all the tutoring that helped him pass the bar, plus interest for every year she "wasted" on him.

* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Hope and Heather might hate each other most of the time, but when Hope sees Heather getting trick by a BitchInSheepsClothing, she rushes to her sister defense and prevents her from being tricked.
* BadGuysPlayPool: Charlie, one of Wolf's criminal partners, is often seen playing pool at a bar whenever Cheryl meets him there.
* BedTrick: A unintentional example is when Logan is doing a TwinSwitch for Cal and accidentally gets Patty interested on him, because she's more attracted to Logan's wit, and she ends up having a TwoPersonPoolParty with Logan while thinking he's Cal. She's pissed about it when she finds out, but is quick to forgive him.
* BigScrewedUpFamily: The West has been a family of thieves and con artists, with Wolf claiming it's InTheBlood, as such they're ALL (save for Logan) involved into petty crimes and cons. Even Wolf's Grandpa was also a career thief.

* {{Blackmail}}: Hope has taken pictures of Logan's relationship with his teacher and vice-principal Valeria in order to blackmail both. In particular, she wants Valerie to grant her truancy so she can focus on making her movie instead of going to school.

* CheatingWithTheMilkman: Mr. Hong's old but still attractive wife Nina Hong quickly seduces and sleeps with Cal when she finds him working at his house. [[spoiler:It's later revealed she was not only using him for sex, but to get pregnant, since Mr. Hong is infertile.]]

* FeetFirstIntroduction: The first time we meet Patty Hong is when we see her walking into the West's store in her HighHeelPower.

* FiveFingerDiscount: ''All'' of the West family is good at stealing petty stuff from stores, with Cheryl having to constantly hound them not to do it after they go "straight".
* FlexibilityEqualsSexAbility: Cal gets DistractedByTheSexy when he sees SexGoddess Nina Hong doing yoga in tight clothing at the Hong household, and she flirts with him when she catches him EatingTheEyeCandy.

** While working for Mr. Hong, Cal gets a lot of reminders about the rumors that the Hongs deal with people who wrong them via CripplingCastration. Even Nina and Patty threaten him with him once or twice.

** Mack's detective partner also has a hopeless crush on Heather, which only gets worse after he sees her doing a strip dance at the club she works at.

* MeanBoss: Cheryl's gets a job as a cashier at a supermarket, but unfortunately her boss is a major creep who constantly hits on her and the other female employers. When Cheryl starts giving him lip about it, he [[FrameUp frames her for stealing money]].

* MrsRobinson: Nina Hong, the old but still attractive TrophyWife, who seduces Cal while he's working at Mr.Hong's house and gets him further in trouble with the Hongs. And she's apparently such a SexGoddess Cal struggles to keep up with her, despite him being much younger... though he gets a reminder of her true age when one AutoErotica attempt ends with her [[CrackOhMyBack hurting her back]]. [[spoiler:When she gets pregnant, it's revealed she never cared that much for Cal specifically, she just wanted to get pregnant to assure her gold ticket with her husband, who's likely infertile.]]

* OutlawCouple: Wolf and Cheryl are a HappilyMarried couple that have been partners-in-crime since high school. But his arrest causes Cheryl to have a wake-up call that the life they lead will inevitably end up behind bars, and she attempts to reform her children.

* PolarOppositeTwins: Cal and Logan are identical twins with contrasting personalities: Cal is a thuggish deadbeat who wants to become a career criminal like his father, while Logal is a professional and driven lawyer who doesn't want to get involved in crime.
* PostCoitalCollapse: Once scene begins with Logan and Valerie collapsing side-by-side in bed after a bout of VictorySex due to the Hope's {{Blackmail}} photos getting burned.

They later patch up and decide they're BetterAsFriends.

* SleepingWithTheBosssWife: Cal starts sleeping with Mr. Hong's wife behind his back. Patty quickly discovers it, but Mr. Hong somehow never does.

* StickyFingers: The West family's most common crime is to steal petty things they want at any moment, and they've all been trained by Wolf to be pretty good at it too.
* TakeThatMe: Hope's line of "I want to be a filmmaker. You don’t need an education for that" seems to be the showrunners mocking their own profession.

* TwinSwitch: When Cal gets stuck with having to do two jobs at the same time, he asks Logan to take his place and pretends to be Cal to Mr. Hong's job. Logan reluctantly agrees and wears a wig to pass as Cal. Things get complicated when he meets Patty Hong and they end up hitting off and sleeping together.

Cheryl West (Creator/VirginiaMadsen) is a middle-aged woman married to career criminal Wolfgang "Wolf" West (Creator/VirginiaMadsen). The couple has four children: Twin brothers Logan and Cal (both played by Creator/PatrickFlueger) with Cal following in his father's footsteps to be in the "family business" while Logan has stayed on the straight and narrow path and is a lawyer; The spoiled and beautiful Heather (Creator/LevenRambin) who wants to be a supermodel; And the youngest daughter Hope (Creator/VirginiaMadsen) who's still in high school, but aspires to one day be a filmmaker.
