Like most family sitcoms, the show did had a handful of [[VerySpecialEpisode very special episodes]] that revolved around serious issues (same topics that you would normally find in [[AfterSchoolSpecial after school specials]]) that the main characters on the show face while still maintaining the light-hearted and family-friendly theme. There was originally supposed to be a SpinOff series focusing on Midge's younger siblings, Garrett, Bailey and the arrival of their new younger sibling, but it's still stuck in DevelopmentHell and it's unknown whether it will be picked up by Creator/{{YTV}}. The nine seasons of the series are now out on DVD seperately. Like every other family sitcoms, the show had a handful of [[ChristmasEpisode Christmas Episodes]] (plus a ChristmasSpecial), [[HalloweenEpisode Halloween Episodes]], [[ThanksgivingDay Thanksgiving Day Episodes]], a Mother's Day episode, and a few ValentinesDay episodes.

** This was actually discussed at one point when Chauncey once asked how Bailey ended up being the only sibling with red hair. Neither of the family had no clue, but they kept making up theories: Midge and Davina blantantly lied and said that they're both natural redheads and that their hair colors changed when they both stood outside in the sun too long as kids, Chauncey jokingly said that she might've been adopted and that [[ThePartridgeFamily Danny Bonaduce]] is her real father and Garrett says that red hair is a recessive gene. Bailey actually believed Chauncey and assumed that she ''is'' adopted when in fact that she's not. Conrad and Irma took DNA tests to find out about their ancestries and found out that they both have Irish ancestors, so this could actually explain where Bailey gotten red hair from.

** Anson's mom, Priscilla, speaks with a slight Midwestern accent.

* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Farrah towards Davina. When Midge shows a picture of Davina to Farrah in the living room, Farrah's response was "Wowwwww!!! She looks so gorgeous!!!". She kept staring at her picture for about two minutes because she was lost in her beauty.
** Even when she meets her for the first time, the look on her face tells you that she's drooling all over her. She even compliments on her beauty by saying "When Midge told me how beautiful you are, she wasn't lying". Davina was actually flattered by her compliment.

** Subverted in the SeriesFinale where the three eldest Mayhan kids move out of the house and leave California. Irma and Conrad don't really have a empty nest right now since they still have Garrett, Bailey and their arrival of their sixth child to look after, but Irma starts to feel emotional right after her three eldest children depart from their home.

* FlashForward: The SeriesFinale fast forwards to 5 months later where Midge is in Cinncinati, living the dream as a book publisher. She shares a fancy loft with her boyfriend [[VictoriousChildhoodFriend Anson]] and still keeps in contact with her best friend Farrah, who's in Europe pursuing a modeling career.

* GenreShift: The show's PilotMovie ''My Sister and Me'' was more of a drama flick, but as soon as the producers from {{YTV}} picked it up as a series in the fall of 1997, the genre changed to a comedy.

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: In "Just Like Davina", Midge, tired of being overshadowed by her older sister's accomplishments, wishes on a shooting star that she had the looks and popularity of Davina. Her wish magically comes true when she wakes up in an alternate reality: Midge is the most beautiful, popular girl in school and is treated like royalty by her parents, while Davina is the fat, ugly slob, constantly teased by everyone about her appearance and is completely ignored by her parents. * LetsHaveAnotherBaby: Irma, to a certain extent. She felt that five children wasn't enough for a big family, so she decided that her and Conrad should try for one more. She finally becomes pregnant with her sixth child, but [[spoiler: loses her still-born baby after a very difficult labor]].

* AllMenArePerverts: In another VerySpecialEpisode, Bailey meets up with a guy name Stanley, whom she met on an online chatroom. Turns out that [[spoiler: he's a pedophile and his real name isn't Stanley]]. Bailey was confused at first when she meets him for the first time because he was a 30-something year-old man and didn't even looked like a teenage boy. He starts making out with her and even almost [[spoiler: raping]] her in the process up until her older siblings, along with the cops, burst in on them and arrested Stanley for pedophilia and attempted rape.
