* ACupAngst: One episode has Karen being bossed around by the other Human Resources girls (as usual) when she suddenly bursts out with, "NO, I WON'T! I AM NOT YOUR SLAVE!" when the other girls ask her what her problem is, she retorts, "You lot, I am sick of it, taking advantage just because ''I haven't got any breasts!''", only for her to sit back down and resume typing like nothing happened.

** So does Sue. She has a ''huge'' list of euphemisms for having a baby, e.g. "Troops out the landing craft. Brick out the front shitter. Watermelon out of your Jap's eye."

* TheCobblersChildrenHaveNoShoes The fact that medical staff have unhealthy lifestyles is not unexpected, but for people who work in a hospital, the characters seem to get precious little attention for their bizarre injuries (maybe LawOfConservationOfDetail, but still. They also seem to have remarkable healing powers, though). Also, the fact that Sue receives no apparent medical attention (or any other kind of attention, actually) for her alleged pregnancy or labour - despite where she works - increases its implausibility. (Though it could be that she just didn't tell anyone she was pregnant, since she apparently did it by stealing Mac's sperm. She may not even really be pregnant - she shows no sign of it and ''gives birth to a lion cub.''

** Although indirectly, Holly [[spoiler: has four-year-old Mackenzie pretend he's Mac's son and dyes his hair blonde.]] At the very least it's questionable.

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: One episode has Alan annoyed and jealous over the fact Mac gets a parking space right next to the hospital because he's a surgeon. After spending an entire episode trying and failing to obtain the space, Mac and Boyce tell him they've gotten at "as near as they can" to Alan's office. Cue Alan entering his office to see his car taking up almost the whole room.

* BitchInSheepsClothing: Karen spends the first series as a bullied, self-loathing, friendless ButtMonkey. By the time the Special rolls around, she is a flashy, arrogant, domineering bitch who eclipses Rachel in social status and positively terrifies the rest. Granted, the last appearance of her before the special, she got knocked out of a window and nobody even noticed. (Apparently the blow to the head totally changed her personality. Though she may or may not now have a prosthetic hand.)

* BlatantLies: During Mac's coma, Alan draws on his face with felt pens and plays ping pong against him. Caroline walks in and Alan claims he had nothing to do with it and it was a "tiny ping pong man". He then chases him away.

* CasanovaWannabe: Martin is the polar opposite of Guy in every way, a relatively unpopular, socially awkward and rather dumb individual who spends the series in totally unrequited love with Caroline. Rachel's pet nickname for him is "Martin Dear, he's so queer!"

* TheChewToy: HR clerk Karen Ball -- not even the deeply pathetic Martin Dear can bring himself to be nice to her. Neither can the office copy machine or the printer.

* {{Cliffhanger}}: Used literally- ''twice.'' The scenes were almost identical, as [[spoiler:both occur with a large vehicle losing control in a field, swerve to miss a sheep and ends up hanging over the ''exact'' same cliff, even with two people sitting in the front seats and Martin in the back.]]

In the bonus DVD material it's shown that the reason only the audio is there is because none of the other actors could do the scene with a straight face.

Statham is really scared and ends up murdering her cousin; so they now have to cope with the guilt of covering it up and eventually flee the law.]]

** Guy Secretan attempts three times to hit Jake in the head with a guyball, but Jake keeps inadvertantly dodging the balls every single time. The lady sitting in the chair across from him isn't so lucky, though.

** Happens again when Guy pushes a trolly at Lyndon after he (accidentally) pulls a woman Guy was talking to. Lyndon then walks down a different corridor, leaving the cart to crash into a random doctor.

* MayDecemberRomance: At one point, a mentally-deteriorating Joanna inexplicably wakes up in bed with a 16 year old schoolboy. (Hilariously, both the boy and his mum seem totally okay with it, the mum even bringing Joanna [[SpotOfTea a cup of tea]] when she comes to wake up her son for school.)

** Another happens with a arcade game guns, with Guy holding Martin at gunpoint and Mac talking him down.

** Combines with ShouldntWeBeInSchoolRightNow for the junior doctors- or rather, Shouldn't Dr. Stretham Be Giving An Actual Seminar?, given that he usually swiftly goes into bickering with Boyce and sends them all out.

* ChekovsGun: Before Caroline's date with Jake, Guy is shown stabbing an egg with a Swiss Army Knife during a conversation with Caroline. After the date, Guy throws the knife at Jake to stop them kissing.

* LamePunReaction: Dr Statham makes a lot of dreadful puns throughout the series. One example was when he won an online caption competition. The image was of an X-ray and his winning caption was "[=X-=]RayCharles". Boyce could only stare at him in horror before saying it was absolutely dreadful.

The series was notable in that, despite being set at the fictional East Hampton Hospital Trust (and filmed in a real-live working hospital, ''[[EnforcedMethodActing complete with genuine patients and doctors as extras]]''), the plot rarely ever touched actual medicine or patient storylines in favor of focusing on the surgeons playing games mid-operations, the LoveDodecahedron the staff are invariably trapped in and the occasional misadventures of the HR department.
