* JerkassHasAPoint: For all of his hard-lining of Souma, Igusu isn't wrong that Souma's inability to work with others is making protecting Creacity harder than necessary. #8 later reveals that Igusu was firmly correct in his assumption that [[spoiler: Godou's disappearance was related to the Gate's activity]].

* RightForTheWrongReasons: Igusu is correct that Godou's disappearance was related to the Gate Of Destruction. He had no idea however that [[spoiler: Godou had given his own life to "re-seal" it after Mutsugi tried to force it open]].

** Healing from trauma doesn't happen overnight. The crux of Souma's IneffectualLoner tendencies is his desperation to keep the position of Creacity's assigned Knight warm for his father until he returns; the man's absence having turned the boy into a bundle of neuroses that's nigh-impossible to work with. Igusu's belligerent attempts to bury the issue results in a ViciousCycle wherein Souma tries to prove himself in ways that nearly get people hurt, he gets scolded by people that want him to be like his dad...which only fuels his desperation to make Godou proud by proving himself ''harder.'' Ryuga breaks this cycle by talking to Souma on his level and helping guide him instead of spewing legacy and rules at him; breaking through the Hagane's shell of edge and letting him embrace teamwork again. While [[spoiler: the reveal of Godou's death]] hits the boy hard (and makes him susceptible to [[spoiler: Inga-induced MindControl]]), Ryuga nudges him into confronting the hallucinations of his trauma instead of burying them by playing the part of foe in reality, which ends up saving Souma's life and giveshim the strength of heart to [[spoiler: finally perform the Flash Sword Dance]].

* AnAesop: The show has a few.
** HumansAreFlawed...[[NegativesAsAPositive and that's okay.]] [[spoiler: Mutsugi's StartOfDarkness is the result of HeroicFatigue stemming from an inability to save people]]; culminating into BlackAndWhiteInsanity that states evil shouldn't exist at all. Ryuga and the heroes counter that the same desire that can stoke evil in people and create Horrors can kickstart positive growth too. Ambition and desperation can indeed lead to problems, but they're crucial to the human experience. While this does no favors to the ViciousCycle between Humans and Horrors, the finite power of hope is preferable to a static WorldOfSilence with no change.

Souma Shirahane's personality has taken a massive downward spiral, which has dented group-morale and has the leader of the Knights of Agora so sick of it that he wants the boy to shape up or ship out; advocating for his demotion.
