Added DiffLines:

* BlackVikings: The series is set in the British Isles in the Dark Ages; given there are Viking raiders and the Holy Roman Emperor is mentioned, the time period is presumably late 8th century at the earliest. Despite this there are many people of color present throughout the land, including people of color in prominent positions such as Sir Ector's wife Lady Marion, which no one comments on. Then again, fairies and wizards are also present and relatively commonplace in the setting, so the show isn't exactly going for pinpoint historical accuracy; there is also some archaeological evidence suggesting that people of African descent came to Britain during the rule of the Roman Empire and one Arthurian story from the 13th century featured Sir Morien, a Knight of the Round Table who is of Moorish descent.

* BeenThereShapedHistory: It's indicated that Merlin has acted as an advisor to many monarchs over the centuries, including Charlemagne and Boudicca (in the latter case, it's even hinted he and Boudicca may have hooked up, though he's evasive).

* GreenThumb: Nimue's powers are nature related. In one flashback, she is shown controlling tree vines into grabbing a girl who was bullying her and dragging her away.

to:

* GivenNameReveal: For the majority of the third episode, Arthur's nun sister who helps Nimue is referred to as Igraine. Near the end, she reveals that she's only called Igraine because of [[AccidentalMisnaming a mix-up]] when she first came to the convent (Igraine was her grandmother's name). Her real name, which she subsequently goes back to using regularly, is Morgana.
* GreenThumb: Nimue's powers are nature related. In one flashback, she is shown controlling tree vines into grabbing a girl who was bullying her and dragging her away. In the present day, she uses her powers to make vines grow ''inside'' a Red Paladin who tried to kill her.
* HowWeGotHere: The opening scene of the first episode depicts Nimue injured by arrows and sinking in a lake. The rest of the series revolves around the events that led her to this point.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: When Nimue sees the gruesome effect of her magic on a Red Paladin, she staggers away in horror and vomits.

* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Merlin is centuries' old, but barely looks out of his thirties (his actor was around thirty-nine during the filming of Season 1).

* ReligiousHorror: The christian Red Paladins play out as a terrifying inquisition. They find pagan communities and burn them to the ground, killing whatever is on their sight.

to:

* RefusalOfTheCall: At the funeral of the Sky Folk's Summoner, Nimue is chosen by the Hidden as the new Summoner, to the shock of everyone. Despite her mother stating it's her destiny, Nimue insists she wasn't no part of it and even tries to run away, citing that the other elders don't want her either.
* ReligiousHorror: The christian One of the main villainous factions of ''Cursed'' are the fundamentalist Christian Red Paladins play out Paladins, who are portrayed as a terrifying inquisition. They find pagan communities and burn them to the ground, killing whatever is on in their sight.sight. They also won't hesitate to torture and kill anyone they suspect of aiding the Fey, however unwittingly, all the while justifying and even exalting their actions as holy.

* TechnicolorFire: Fey Fire, which was used to forge the Sword of Power and is the only thing that can destroy it, is [[SupernaturalIsGreen bright green]].
* TeensAreMonsters: Sister Iris is implied to be a young teen and is a fanatical supporter of the Red Paladins. She eventually [[spoiler: burns down her abbey, killing many of the nuns, to 'cleanse' it of sin and sets out to join the Paladins]].

* BloodIsSquickerInWater: Nimue fights and kills some Red Paladins who murdered Fey refugees in a pond; afterwards the water is almost completely red with blood.

Added DiffLines:

* CrisisOfFaith: It's implied that Morgana was never a very devout Christian to start with, but after the Red Paladins [[spoiler: torture and kill Abbess Nora for aiding Nimue]], she rips off and ditches her cross necklace, and shortly after leaves the convent for good.

Added DiffLines:

* SecretRelationship: Morgana and Celia have to keep their relationship secret, because they're two nuns living in Dark Ages Britain. When Nimue walks in on them kissing, Morgana initially tries to threaten Nimue into keeping quiet, until Nimue says she wouldn't tell because she doesn't think they've done anything wrong.

* BearsAreBadNews: As a child, Nimue was attacked and nearly killed by a dark god in the guise of a giant bear.

Added DiffLines:

* SavageWolves: While fleeing from the Red Paladins after they attack her village, Nimue is attacked by a pack of wolves. Using the Sword of Power, she's able to kill them all and it's this incident that leads to her being known as the Wolf Blood Witch.

Added DiffLines:

* InterspeciesRomance: Arthur, a human man, and Nimue, a Fey woman, end up developing romantic feelings for one another. It also counts as a MuggleMageRomance, seeing as Arthur is just a normal man while Nimue has magical powers considered unusual even amongst Fey kind.

Added DiffLines:

* OurFairiesAreDifferent: The Fey collectively refers to many different kinds of beings, some more closely resembling humans than others. Some, such as the Tusks and Snake Clan, are humanoid with animal-like attributes, the Moon Wings look like traditional fairies with butterfly wings and the Sky Folk look indistinguishable from humans unless they use their powers (which cause green vine-like markings to appear on their faces).

Added DiffLines:

* PromotedToLoveInterest: Nimue is presented here as Arthur's love interest (in some versions of the Arthurian legends she's portrayed as Merlin's lover, which is ''definitely'' not the case here [[spoiler: given they're revealed to be father and daughter]].

Added DiffLines:

* UnrelatedInTheAdaptation: Arthur isn't Uther Pendragon's son here; instead his father is a CanonForeigner named Tor.

* InNameOnly: Aside from certain characters having the same names and/or similar roles (Arthur, Morgana, Nimue, Merlin, Uther Pendragon etc.), having a plot involving a magic sword that OnlyTheChosenMayWield and seemingly being set in the British Isles in the Dark Ages, overall the show's plot bears little resemblance to the usual stories in the Arthurian mythos (although seeing as it's set up as an OriginStory for the Lady of the Lake, this may change in later seasons).

The full phrase, as spoken by Gawain and Squirrel, is apparently "A knight of the Fey is one with the land, as enduring as the Great River and as true as Arawn's bow.
