* GodzillaThreshold: Discussed when the Special Forces team is brought in to storm the building. Their tactics are not subtle and could result in many casualties among the hostages. The super public nature of the events could also expose the team's many covert and not always legal missions. However, the authorities are so desperate that they are willing to accept the massive physical and PR damage.
* HollywoodHealing: The Professor receives a gunshot from Sierra in his left foot. In real life, that would make him pretty much unable to walk properly, but in the series, the only effect is a somewhat light (and inconsistent) limp.
* TheHyena: Ramiro, one of the special forces soldiers, hysterically laughs a lot, even shortly after he gets severely injured from [[spoiler:Tokyo launching a suicide attack on his team]].
* MaternityCrisis: Sierra goes into labor right after taking the Professor, Marseilles and Benjamin prisoner, forcing her to set them free so they can help her give birth.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: After committing so many crimes all across Europe and getting away with it, Berlin broke the mirror of a bar just with an irrational act of vandalism, and let himself be taken by the police. Why? [[spoiler:Because he could accept that his girlfriend leaves him, that his son betrays him, but both things combined are too much, even for him.]]
* ProperlyParanoid: Subverted. The authorities are now fully aware of the Professor's penchant for creating elaborate deceptions that send them on wild geese chases so they refuse to fall for his tricks. This means that the Professor can now use simpler schemes and hide them behind more elaborate fake ones. In another instance, the authorities miss a good chance to retake the building because they think that the robbers are just putting on another performance to trick the police.
* PsychoForHire: All members of the special forces team sent into the bank with Sagasta have felonies on their records, and appear to be [[BloodKnight way too into the fighting]].
* SelfFulfillingProphecy: Tamayo frames Sierra as an accomplice to the gang in order to cover his own ass after she ratted out the government's complicity in her torture of Rio. This drives her to actually cut a deal with the Professor to get revenge.
* StockScream: In Episode 5, the "Wilhelm Scream" can be heard when one of the soldiers gets killed by a grenade that Gandia threw to Tokyo, which she throws back to the special forces team's location.
* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler:Tokyo, seriously wounded and unable to escape, pulls the pins on her entire grenade bandolier as Gandia and the special forces soldiers prepare to finish her off, taking most of them out.]]
* TokenGoodTeammate: By this point, Ángel is the only one left on the authorities' side who still wants to do things by the book, while the rest are willing to do whatever is necessary to end the heist.
* TrueArtIsAncient: Invoked and discussed by Berlin. He planned a heist to steal some viking relics made of gold, to replace them with worthless replicas and melt them for the gold. His son, who loves the arts, was horrified: those relics are 1000 years old! Berlin said that it is all garbage. Work of blacksmiths, not artists. That vikings stole awesome art pieces from the Greeks and British, and melted them to make artifacts of everyday usage! If anything, by melting them Berlin would be returning them to their primal glory as basic gold.

* GodzillaThreshold: The government has declared the robbers to be dangerous terrorists and subversives and is determined to stop them at any cost. The Bank of Spain heist is treated as a national security rather than police matter and the authorities are more concerned with stopping or killing the robbers rather than saving the hostages. A dangerous knockout gas is used that could kill hostages and one official suggests that they should just blow up the building and kill everyone inside.
* GoodCounterpart: The Governor of the Bank of Spain serves as one to Arturo. Both were as the main authority figures in their respective banks, and the de facto leader of its hostages. While Arturo is a SmugSnake and a DirtyCoward who constantly [[DefiantCaptive puts together brain-dead escape plans that immediately backfire]], the Governor is calm and compliant throughout the heist, and is fully aware that any attempt to escape would only be a reckless danger to himself and the other hostages. It is incredibly satisfying when he gives Arturo a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech in the fourth season.
* HappyEndingOverride: Río and Tokio's happy ending becomes overriden when the police finds out where Río is, capturing him and forcing Tokio on the run.
* HeelFaceTurn: Mónica and Raquel join the team as Estocolmo and Lisboa.
* HollywoodDensity: Nairobi is seen holding up a bar of gold in each hand and playing with them. If they're Good Delivery standard bars (and they look bigger than that), it means she's effortlessly carrying around about 25 kg of gold - more than a third of the weight of ''her own body''.

** Season 1 began with Tokio being recruited by the Professor and being very wary of him. Season 3 has her going to meet the Professor and hugging him.

* TheMostWanted: Robbing 2.4+ billion Euros makes the heist team an objective of Europol and puts them in international search and capture. It also provides the robbers with much improved resources compared with what they had before, like having a team of 65 Pakistanis remotely doing what Rio did by himself in the Mint heist.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler:Río chooses ''the worst possible moment'' to tell Tokio that he wants to break up with her - right after he arrives to the bank in the middle of the heist that got started because Tokio ''begged the others to help her free him''.]]
* PetTheDog: Denver has Miguel doing seemingly dangerous tasks (while covering him to make sure nothing goes wrong) in order to help him impress Amanda.

Things only get worse during the heist, where he constantly puts together brain-dead escape plans that he bullies other hostages into assisting with, and at one point [[DirtyCoward even throws them under the bus when Denver has him cornered]] (during a fight that ''he'' provoked).
** After the first heist, Arturo milks the fame of his experience for all the attention he can, passing himself off as a heroic leader who defied and got the better of the robbers. When the second heist occurs, his desperation to remain relevant prompts him to ''run into the building'' to be taken hostage again, where he once again tries to rally the other hostages against the team. During his time in the second heist, he ''drugs and rapes'' the governor's secretary, which prompts the other hostages to finally turn on him and gets him a much needed [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech telling off]] from the [[GoodCounterpart Governor himself]].
* MexicanStandoff: So much so that there should be a world record of how many times this happened.
* SWATTeam: Or rather, the Spanish equivalent - the GEO (Grupo Especial de Operaciones, or "Special Operations Group"). Led by Suárez, they have a prominent role in both heists on the Police side.
* UndyingLoyalty: Subverted multiple times. Loyalty doesn't do much good when your opposers have your (and sometimes your family's) safety dangling above you, which Berlin notes in a flashback.
** Rio admits he would have leaked the Professor's location to Sierra when he was being tortured to be let go.
** Raquel would have pled guilty and told everything to Sierra for the safety of her family hadn't the Professor been just in time.

** [[spoiler:When he naturally gets arrested, he calls Raquel and then goes to the bathroom to beat himself up, so he can play a WoundedGazelleGambit and make it look like he just defended himself.]]

* OddNameOut: Downplayed. While most of the gang's nicknames are capitals (Tokyo, Berlin, Moscow, Helsinki, Oslo, Nairobi) or at least one of the most populated and renowned cities of their country (Rio), Denver isn't a particularly outstanding city in the United States.
* OhCrap: Denver when he realizes that the [[spoiler:gun in Arturo's hand is the real deal - and that his is fake.]]
* OnlyAFleshWound: Averted. Getting shot is not something you can easily walk off. [[spoiler:Mónica nearly dies because her injury becomes infected, and Arturo has to undergo surgery to get healed from the sniper shot, and Moscow actually dies.]]

* PapaWolf: Moscow's weakness is stated to be Denver. [[spoiler:He brought him into the plan because he screwed up with some drug-dealers, and has an anxiety attack when Denver kills a hostage ([[FakingTheDead or so he thinks]]).]]

* PoliceAreUseless: {{Averted}}. The police are quite competent at their job, and more than capable of realizing what the robbers are doing - the only problem being that the Professor is always a step or two ahead of them.

* PragmaticVillainy: Berlin is obviously this. He tells the hostages that they will not be harmed, and that the robbers will take care of them, as the hostages are (a) the only reason the police aren't assaulting the place and (b) the only means to ensure they can later escape. [[spoiler:It does not mean he is not willing to hurt or kill (or, rather, force others to do it) so as to make his point through.]]
* {{The Quiet One}}s: Oslo rarely, if ever, says a word. Helsinki is a bit more talkative, but still likes to remain silent unless needed.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Moscow lays one on Tokyo for her behavior, [[spoiler:particularly after [[ForcefulKiss she kisses Allison]].]]
* RefugeInAudacity: The Professor, when speaking with Inspector Murillo, asks several uncomfortable personal questions of her, such as what she is wearing and whether she has ever faked an orgasm. And he also takes the time to personally speak with her by going to the same bar as she does.

* TheScapegoat: Berlin blames Denver for his identity being discovered, but it was actually the Professor.
** Raquel is scapegoated by her superiors over several of the bad decisions they made.

* SecretlyDying: [[spoiler:Berlin]] has a terminal illness that he keeps secret.
* SexySecretary: Mónica Gaztambide, who has been [[SleepingWithTheBoss in a relationship]] with Arturo for several years now.

* TheSociopath: Berlin; he's even referred as such in his psych evaluation.
* SpannerInTheWorks: The scissors. [[spoiler:When the teacher takes the scissors, Arturo comes up with a plan to spark a escape plan by the hostage cops - which is the point where things start to go pear-shaped.]]

* StockholmSyndrome: Allison apologizes to Rio after she accidentally gets him captured on her mobile phone's camera.

* TapOnTheHead:
** Averted with [[spoiler: Oslo]], who's hit on the head with a pipe and doesn't recover from it.
** Played more straight with [[spoiler:Berlín, who gets hit in the back of the head by Nairobi.]] He bleeds and gets a bandage, but is up on his feet soon after.

* ThemeNaming: Obvious. All of the robbers (save for the Professor) are called after a city. [[spoiler:Mónica gains the nickname Stockholm after stating her intention to join the robbers, and she earns this name in the Part 2 finale.]]
* TooDumbToLive: The Professor gave Helsinki 1000 euros to get a scrapyard's worker to destroy a car that had some of the team's fingerprints on it, no questions asked. Not only did Helsinki not get the car destroyed - he sent the cash to his family - he did not even think of cleaning the fingerprints. The Professor has to risk being identified and his life to find the car and clean it himself before the cops find it.

* TropicalEpilogue: This part of the show ends with [[spoiler:Raquel meeting up with the Professor on the tropical island of Palawan, Philippines, which they had previously considered as a vacation spot.]]
* TwoGirlsToATeam: The first heist group has two women (Nairobi and Tokyo) out of nine. Tokyo comments early on that the team was obviously lacking in women.

* UnspokenPlanGuarantee: The plan is revealed to the audience little by little, exactly as the corresponding part of the plan takes place in the present.

* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Tokyo goes berserk after Helsinki beats the crap out of Rio, telling the Professor that, if it happens again, she will kill him (or Berlin, or Helsinki).

* WasItAllALie: PlayedForDrama [[spoiler:when Raquel realizes that her boyfriend Salva is actually the Professor and takes him to the farm to interrogate him, broken down because she thinks he only got close to her to use her. The Professor reveals that he did initially, but as he got to know her he actually fell in love with her.]]

* YourDaysAreNumbered: [[spoiler:Berlin suffers from a degenerative disease that will kill him within two years.]]
* YouAreNotMyFather: [[spoiler:Denver to Moscú]] when the latter reveals the AwfulTruth of why the former's mother (seemingly) abandoned them both.
