Owing to the nature of the RealRobot genre and its theme of maintaining realism, the GUAE Mecha Cohort is one of the few branches of the Pantheon/GrandUnitedAllianceOfEvil to have a proper ranking system that is actually adhered to by its members, the other being the GUAE's sea and space fleets (because they're led by Grand Admiral Thrawn). Both services share similar ranking systems. Currently, Char has adopted a more NATO-compliant ranking system based on both the old Imperial Japanese military system and the newer Japan Self-Defense Force system. As for rank insignia, each constituent force has their own uniform and rank symbol, but for formal occasions the 'Cohort Service Uniform' has a unified attire scheme for shoulder insignias. All new soldiers listed are to be awarded the appropriate rank as followsalso note that officers in a charge of a warship are addressed as 'kanchou' onboard the ship regardless of rank Owing to lack of ranks there, ZAFT Green Uniforms are OR-1 to OR-3, ZAFT Black Uniforms (short) are OR-4 to OR-6, ZAFT Red Uniforms are OR-7 to OR-8 and WO-1, ZAFT Black Uniforms (long) are WO-2 to WO-4 and OF-1 to OF-3, ZAFT White Uniforms are OF-4 to OF-6, and ZAFT Lavender Uniforms are OF-7 to OF-9:

These guys don't pilot mobile suits, but serve on the field, leading soldiers and infantry to clear the way for heavy combat.
* OR-1 (Private/[=PV1=]):nitōhei The entry-level rank for enlisted soldiers of the ground forces of the Pantheon/GUAEMechaCohort. They serve as the base soldiers of the Cohort, handling normal, non-mobile suit battles and engagements.
* OR-2 (Private 2nd Class/[=PV2=]):jōtōhei Privates are automatically promoted to private second class after two months of service. Like privates, they serve as the base soldiers of the Cohort on the ground, fighting on battlefields and in war-trenches. They follow the orders of their superior officer to the best of their ability.
* OR-3 (Private 1st Class/PFC):ittōhei Privates who have served for at least a year in the army are automatically promoted to this rank. As before, they are only base soldiers of the military, with the only consideration given that among a platoon of privates, they are the commanding officer should higher ranking officers be unavailable. If necessary, they serve as specialists for heavy weaponry such as machine guns ().

\\

These guys lead the enlisted soldiers into battle against enemy forces. Starting from the OR-7 rank, non-commissioned officers are eligible for mobile suit piloting.

* OR-4 (Corporal/CPL):gochō A specialist in the army and the first of the junior non-commissioned officer ranks. They have basic management duties over soldiers of lower-ranks and in battle would typically commandeer a tank (a Zaku Tank if lucky) under a sergeant.
* OR-5 (Sergeant/SGT):gunsō The point where an officer starts gaining power proper over other soldiers and the second of the junior non-commissioned officer ranks. If someone reaches this rank, they're doing pretty well for themselves. They serve as drilling or combat instructors (if they aren't assigned a unit) or have command of a small group of soldiers (privates and corporals) which can range from a fireteam (2-4 soldiers) to a squad (8-12 soldiers), and in rare situations platoon leaders.
* OR-6 (Sergeant First Class/SFC):ittōgunsō The first of the senior non-commissioned officer ranks, requiring 15-18 years of military experience. They typically serve as sergeants for platoons (platoon sergeants) of 25-60 soldiers. A sergeant first class in an administrative position serves on a military base as part of its highest-ranked enlisted personnel. Starting here, personnel are eligible to be mobile suit pilots.
* OR-7 (Master Sergeant/[=MSGt=]):shujin-gunsō The second of the senior non-commissioned officer ranks, master sergeants serve as NCO commanders of company-sized elements (battalion-sized elements at rare instances) in conjunction with a captain (navy) or major (army). As such, they are among the most senior in authority in the enlisted military, second only to the sergeant major who is the NCO commander of a battalion and a NumberTwo to a colonel or general.
* OR-8 (Sergeant Major/SGM):sōchō The highest of the senior non-commissioned officer ranks, and the senior non-commissioned officer in command of a battalion-sized element of 300 to 1000 soldiers. They work in conjunction with their commanding officer, either a colonel, brigadier general or lieutenant general at a principal ground military headquarters. As such, they are dubbed as the 'big dogs' of the officers, barking out orders on their behalf. Sergeant majors that serve officers of the rank 'General' are known as command sergeant majors.

* OR-1 (Crewman Recruit):nitōsuihei The entry-level rank for Space Assault force officers, this may very well be the most unenviable position the Pantheon/GUAEMechaCohort, worse than a private. They serve on carrier ships like the Papua-class as 'apprentices' to higher-ranked crewmen.
* OR-2 (Crewman 2nd Class):jōtōsuihei A crewman recruit is promoted to crewman 2nd class after two months of service. Beside limited supervisory authority over crewman recruits, soldiers of this rank still do menial labour on low-priority ships as apprentices to those of higher rank.
* OR-3 (Crewman 1st Class):ittōsuihei Awarded to second class crewmen after they have passed the appropriate proficiency tests, the final rank before advancing to petty officer status. By this point they are expected to be well-versed in naval doctrine. They serve as low-level workers on medium-priority ships.

\\

* OR-4 (Petty Officer Third Class/[=PO3=]):santōheisō After passing the advanced proficiency and ratings tests, a crewman becomes a full-fledged non-commissioned officer of the navy. As an officer aboard a warship, they perform maintenance or repair equipment aboard a warship, supervising lower-ranked crewmen.
* OR-5 (Petty Officer Second Class/[=PO2=]):nitōheisō A promotion received after three years of service in the Cohort. In addition to supervising third class petty officers and crewmen aboard a warship, they are training to be coordinators and NCO division leaders.
* OR-6 (Petty Officer First Class/[=PO1=]):ittōheisō Petty Officer First Class is where things kick into high gear. They are divisional leaders aboard a warship in charge of localized day-to-day operations, overseeing key parts of the ship's workings. They are supervised and mentored by chief petty officers. Starting here, officers are eligible to be mobile suit pilots, but relegated to base models.
* OR-7 (Chief Petty Officer/CPO):nitōsōchō In terms of the respect and etiquette they have to be shown, chief petty officers might as well be commissioned officers. They are in charge of instructing and supervising lower level petty officers and run a large chunk of operations aboard a warship. At times, they may be in charge of general administration for the entire warship.
* OR-8 (Master Chief Petty Officer/MCPO):ittōsōchō The best of the best chief petty officers are promoted to this rank. Running all general administration aboard a warship and serving as the senior enlisted advisor to their commissioned officer, a lot of burden is placed on their shoulders. They are highly experienced military officers, loyal and hardworking for Char's cause. [=MCPOs=] running operations aboard a fleet's flagship are referred to as 'command master chief petty officers'.

Warrant officers have a special place in the Cohort. They command the same level of authority as commissioned officers because of their specialty in specific departments, such as the first set of mobile suit test pilots being warrant officers. However, they rank higher than enlisted officers but not commissioned officers so their powers are restricted in certain aspects. And for the record, specialized duties include engineering, cooking and repairs under the force.
* WO-1 (Warrant Officer/WO):jun-i Experts in their various fields that serve as key operators of specific functions from a platoon to as large as a battalion.
* WO-2 (Warrant Officer First Class/WFC):ittōjun-i Warrant officers are promoted for outstanding merit in their respective fields, and have supervisory authority over lower-ranked warrant officers. They can serve up to the brigade-level (up to 5000 soldiers).
* WO-3 (Senior Warrant Officer/SWO):jōkyū-jun-i Esteemed specialists in their various fields who are senior to their subordinates. Warrant officers of this rank and above are regarded as having the most expertise in specific craft or technology. Hence, they serve as operators, maintainers or advisors to units up to military corps (a massive regional command).
* WO-4 (Chief Warrant Officer/CWO):chifū-jun-i The most senior of all warrant officers with authority over all others. While having the same duties as inferiors, they can serve up to an entire ground force or fleet. No one holds this rank currently, but if they do and warrant a promotion, it's a free pass up to colonel (army) or captain (navy).

\\

* OF-1A (Second Lieutenant/[=2LT=]):rikugun-shōi Officers who command a platoon of 15-50 non-commissioned officers, also known as a platoon leader. They often leads small detachments of a mobile assault task force. Otherwise, they serve as staff officers to a captain, though this role automatically disqualifies them from promotion.
* OF-1B (First Lieutenant/[=1LT=]):rikugun-chūi Shares the same duties as a second lieutenant but with a lower likelihood of doing staff officer duties. They report to their superior, either a captain or major.
* OF-2 (Captain/CPT):rikugun-tai-i In command of a company of 150-200 soldiers, or a special mobile assault task force. This usually lands a captain full authority over a base (not a primary headquarters) and all its mobile suit forces, as well as a small flagship.
* OF-3 (Major/MAJ):rikugun-shōsa The first of the field officer ranks, those that have leadership of a ground force. Commands a large company of mobile suit forces and command of several bases in a region or sector, with command of a localized group of ships serving the direct area of bases. Additionally, a major directly reports to their superior officer, a lieutenant colonel or colonel.
* OF-4 (Lieutenant Colonel/LTC):rikugun-chūsa Has command of an entire battalion of up to 1000 soldiers, near complete authority of all land operations in a regional sector, answers to their colonel. This comes with full authority over the fleet unit serving his or her assigned bases. Officers with the enlisted rank of sergeant major often serve as a lieutenant colonel's NumberTwo.
* OF-5 (Colonel/COL):rikugun-taisa Command over an entire regional sector, several battalions and its attached fleet, with provisional authority over all ground forces if deemed necessary. This is the last of the field officers before command duties begin leaning into ArmchairMilitary. Colonel M'Quve was in charge of the Odessa mining operation, and used his field duties separate from his superior to engage in illicit acts for Lady Kycilia.
* OF-6 (Brigadier General/BG):rikugun-junshō Also known as 'Brigadier', this officer rank has command of 2000-5000 soldiers (a brigade) and deputy command of a large portion of ground mobile suit forces in the Pantheon under a major general. Most officers starting from this rank are military veterans with years of mobile suit piloting and battle experiences under their belt.
* OF-7 (Major General/MG):rikugun-shōshō Has complete command of a regiment, a large portion of ground mobile suit forces of the GUAE Mecha Cohort with the blessing of their direct superior, a general. They are among the most capable officers in the Earth Attack Force.
* OF-8 (Lieutenant General/LG):rikugun-chūjō Officers of this rank have command over the entire ground mobile suit forces, and second-in-command to the generals, who are extremely scarce in comparison to the admirals of the Space Attack Force. This rank is considered the make-or-break point in becoming a general or risk being fired. Due to having to be in space to command their respective fleets over the Pantheon or liaising with superior officers, they are commonly never seen on the ground except in major operations.
* OF-9 (General/GEN):rikugun-taishō Has complete command of all ground mobile suit forces of the faction, answerable only to Supreme Commander Char (or Gihren depending on the faction). As such, they usually liaise with the navy and are rarely seen on the ground. Nevertheless, they have the final say on all military operations under their authority, and provide naval support when necessary.
* OF-10 (Field Marshal/FM):gensui-rikugun-taishō Conferred upon generals who have displayed stellar military performance, be that in mobile suit piloting or battle tactics. In command of all mobile suit forces in the GUAE Mecha Cohort, Char is the sole individual to hold this rank, but unlike with the Fleet Admiral rank, others may join him soon.
* OF-11 (Grand Marshal/GM):dai-rikugun-taishō This largely ceremonial rank is conferred upon the highest-ranking member of the Pantheon/GUAEConquestForce, since it's named Army. Since the Cohort's inception, this honour belongs to Sheev Palpatine of the Galactic Empire. Darth Sidious is large hands-off in his dealings with the Cohort, seeing as he doesn't know or think to care about how mechas work. He usually leaves matters in the hands of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

\\

* OF-1A (Ensign/ENS):kaigun-shōi The entry-level rank for listed members of the division, most officers here serve as trainees or aides to superior officers, mostly handle datawork and supply management. Lucky individuals may receive command of a small ship or better yet, posting to a mobile suit battalion.
* OF-1B (Lieutenant Junior Grade/LTJG):kaigun-chūi Ensigns are promoted to this rank after a few months of service, and are often posted to mobile assault forces. As such, Lieutenant Junior Grades (or Junior Lieutenants) form the bulk of mobile suit and mobile armor pilots in the Cohort. Certain infamous [=LTJGs=] include Black Tri-Star members Ortega and Mash, whom others of their rank usually defer to.
* OF-2 (Lieutenant/LT)kaigun-dai-i These mobile suit pilots command an entire squad of mobile suit pilots, usually Junior Lieutenants and enlisted rank soldiers. By this point officers are expected to be fully combat capable and able to handle leadership duties. Depending on how long an officer has served with this rank, he or she can be addressed as 'Senior Lieutenant'. Ramba Ral held the rank for most of the One Year Wardemotion for insubordination is optional knowledge.
* OF-3 (Lieutenant Commander/LCDR):kaigun-shōsa Usually a commanding officer of a medium-sized battleship, and more often than not an AcePilot of a custom mobile suit in command of a mobile suit squadron. They specialize in certain tactics and skills and thus are assigned to high-risk situations and battles. Infamously, this rank was the one held by Supreme Commander Char for most of the One Year War.
* OF-4 (Commander/CDR):kaigun-chūsa The first of the senior officer ranks, and in charge of a ship or a platoon of up to 50 soldiers. As a senior officer, they commonly report directly to their task unit's commanding officer, usually a captain or commodore. Mobile suit pilots of this rank usually lead a specialized division, such as Johnny Ridden and Chimaera Corpshe received this rank posthumously. As the commanding officer of their flagship, commanders can be addressed as 'captains'.
* OF-5 (Captain/CPT):kaigun-daisa Commanding officer of a company of up to 150 soldiers (i.e. a large mobile suit company of a task group aka a task unit), a deputy if a commodore is present. As such, they usually captain a large ship under the direction of an admiral who commands the entire fleet. Minor sector or regional Pantheon commands can also fall under this rank's bailiwick. Expect an officer of this rank to begin leaning into ArmchairMilitary territory.
* OF-6 (Commodore/CDRE):kaigun-junshō Commands a flotilla or squadron of several ships, and usually command of a task group (part of a task force). In the context of a larger fleet, they run a significant portion of its forces (around 400 vessels or less) and report directly to their fleet's vice admiral. Most glory-hound officers only see this as the bridge between success and failure in obtaining a RankUp. Nevertheless, being a commodore already ensures near equal footing with a rear admiral.
* OF-7 (Rear Admiral/RADM):kaigun-shōshō The first of the admiral ranks, denoting a position of high authority in the Space Assault Force, usually serving as the head of a task force. The most prestigious rear admirals serve as the third-in-command of an entire fleet in charge of non-critical fleet components, subordinate to their vice admiral and admiral (or fleet admiral if it's Char's personal fleet).
* OF-8 (Vice Admiral/VADM):kaigun-chūjō The commanding officer of a task force, or second-in-command or commanding officer of an entire fleet depending on the situation, commanding the frontal components of the fleet. They normally have full autonomy in their duties so long as they report to their superiors. Dozle Zabi, a vice admiral of the faction has regular command of the First Fleet and the Solomon asteroid base.
* OF-9 (Admiral/ADM):kaigun-taishō: The most senior rank an officer can attain normally, has the highest command of an entire fleet and a base along with it. They report directly to Supreme Commander Char and[=/=]or Grand Admiral Thrawn himself.
* OF-10 (Fleet Admiral/FADM):gensui-kaigun-taishō This rank is only given to outstanding admirals worthy of the honour, but only in times of crisis. During the Pantheonic Rebellion, Black Zeon leader Gihren Zabi was awarded the rank of Fleet Admiral, but this was revoked in the aftermath, a key factor in the fracturing of the GUAE Mecha Cohort. As Supreme Commander of the Red Zeon faction and the Cohort as a whole, Char Aznable is the sole person to have the rank of Fleet Admiral currently. He has the authority to direct all forces of the Mecha Cohort unilaterally.
* OF-11 (Grand Admiral/GADM):dai-kaigun-taishō: As a subsidiary unit of the Pantheon/GUAEConquestForce, Char serves alongside (or under, you decide) the GUAE space fleet commander, Grand Admiral Thrawn. He has the final say in all military matters, but can be overruled by the Cohort's High Command. Otherwise, his authority equals that of Char and he mostly leaves him to his own devices.

\\

'

* OF-12 (Generalissimo):daigensui-rikugun-taishō This rank is posthumously awarded to deceased top commanders of the various constituent militaries that form the GUAE Mecha Cohortthey may be alive in the Pantheon but often are non-ascended, reducing their standing here, specifically ground-based commanders. This includes Fixx Bloodman and Homer Katagiri.
* OF-12 (Admiralissimo):daigensui-kaigun-taishō Held by Gihren Zabi, leader of the Black faction but this is Authority in Name Only. He officially holds the rank of OF-10 Admiral or OF-10 General anywhere else in the Grand United Alliance of Evil. Otherwise, this is posthumously awarded to deceased top commanders of the various constituent militaries that form the Pantheon/GUAEMechaCohortthey may be alive in the Pantheon but often are non-ascended, reducing their standing here, specifically space-based individuals.

Nevertheless, they have the final say on all military operations under their authority, and provide naval support when necessary.
* OF-11 OF-10 (Field Marshal/FM):gensui-rikugun-taishō Conferred upon generals who have displayed stellar military performance, be that in mobile suit piloting or battle tactics. In command of all mobile suit forces in the GUAE Mecha Cohort, Char is the sole individual to hold this rank, but unlike with the Fleet Admiral rank, others may join him soon.
* OF-12 OF-11 (Grand Marshal/GM):dai-rikugun-taishō This largely ceremonial rank is conferred upon the highest-ranking member of the Pantheon/GUAEConquestArmy, since it's named Army.

* OF-1 (Ensign/ENS):kaigun-shōi The entry-level rank for listed members of the division, most officers here serve as trainees or aides to superior officers, mostly handle datawork and supply management. Lucky individuals may receive command of a small ship or better yet, posting to a mobile suit battalion.
* OF-2 (Lieutenant Junior Grade/LTJG):kaigun-chūi Ensigns are promoted to this rank after a few months of service, and are often posted to mobile assault forces.
* OF-3 (Lieutenant/LT)kaigun-dai-i These mobile suit pilots command an entire squad of mobile suit pilots, usually Junior Lieutenants and enlisted rank soldiers.
* OF-4 (Lieutenant Commander/LCDR):kaigun-shōsa Usually a commanding officer of a medium-sized battleship, and more often than not an AcePilot of a custom mobile suit in command of a mobile suit squadron. They specialize in certain tactics and skills and thus are assigned to high-risk situations and battles. Infamously, this rank was the one held by Supreme Commander Char for most of the One Year War.
* OF-5 (Commander/CDR):kaigun-chūsa The first of the senior officer ranks, and in charge of a ship or a platoon of up to 50 soldiers.
* OF-6 (Captain/CPT):kaigun-daisa : Commanding officer of a company of up to 150 soldiers (i.e. a large mobile suit company of a task group aka a task unit), a deputy if a commodore is present. As such, they usually captain a large ship under the direction of an admiral who commands the entire fleet. Minor sector or regional Pantheon commands can also fall under this rank's bailiwick. Expect an officer of this rank to begin leaning into ArmchairMilitary territory.
* OF-7 (Commodore/CDRE):kaigun-junshō Commands a flotilla or squadron of several ships, and usually command of a task group (part of a task force). In the context of a larger fleet, they run a significant portion of its forces and report directly to their fleet's vice admiral. Most glory-hound officers only see this as the bridge between success and failure in obtaining a RankUp. Nevertheless, being a commodore already ensures near equal footing with a rear admiral.
* OF-8 (Rear Admiral/RADM):kaigun-shōshō The first of the admiral ranks, denoting a position of high authority in the Space Assault Force, usually serving as the head of a task force. The most prestigious rear admirals serve as the third-in-command of an entire fleet, subordinate to their vice admiral and admiral (or fleet admiral if it's Char's personal fleet).
* OF-9 (Vice Admiral/VADM):kaigun-chūjō The commanding officer of a task force, or second-in-command or commanding officer of an entire fleet depending on the situation. They normally have full autonomy in their duties so long as they report to their superiors.
* OF-10 (Admiral/ADM):kaigun-taishō: The most senior rank an officer can attain normally, has the highest command of an entire fleet and a base along with it. They report directly to Supreme Commander Char and[=/=]or Grand Admiral Thrawn himself. Dozle Zabi, an admiral of the faction has regular command of the First Fleet and the Solomon asteroid base.
* OF-11 (Fleet Admiral/FADM)gensui-kaigun-taishō: This rank is only given to outstanding admirals worthy of the honour, but only in times of crisis.
* OF-12 (Grand Admiral/GADM):dai-kaigun-taishō: As a subsidiary unit of the Pantheon/GUAEConquestArmy, Char serves alongside (or under, you decide) the GUAE space fleet commander, Grand Admiral Thrawn. He has the final say in all military matters, but can be overruled by the Cohort's High Command. Otherwise, his authority equals that of Char and he mostly leaves him to his own devices.

currently, but if they do and warrant a promotion, it's a free pass up to colonel (army) or captain (navy).
