The world of tGA has seen many grand events unfold, most recently a worldwide catastrophe caused by a mysterious beast, the [[EldritchAbomination Godslayer]]. It single-handedly ended a drawn-out war by devouring the two gods responsible for the conflict, and the resulting shift in power rearranged the continents and killed countless people. The beast formed a cult around it and fell asleep shortly after its rampage, and the five nations of the world ended up living in isolation and rebuilding their war-torn kingdoms while dreading what future had in store for them. At the same time the [[DemonicInvaders demons]], whose god the Godslayer had devoured, got used to their newfound freedom and began massing their forces to take over the world while they quickly conquered the most ravaged nation which became their base of operations. It didn't take long for ambitions to grow even in these dreadful times, however, and various factions rose among the races of the world as more and more people began bidding for power.

* InterspeciesRomance: [[TheAtoner Omaroch]] and [[WanderingMinstrel Delora]] are a demon and a human who fall in love although such union is seen by many as blasphemy. The Land of the Living witnesses several intermarriages between different races, including elves, humans and dwarves among others, which result in children with mixed ancestry such as half-elves. Interspecies romance becomes a major plot point with [[NatureSpirit nymphs]] who need males from other races to breed because a magical curse makes them only give birth to female nymphs; this causes them to have no males of their own to keep their population going so they need to seduce men from other races in order to become pregnant and stop the nymph race from becoming extinct.
* ItGetsEasier: The thief [[LoveableRogue Refan]] gradually stops worrying about the people he's killed as he turns more and more into HeWhoFightsMonsters who succumbs more and more to his [[SuperPoweredEvilSide demonic side]] in order to have revenge on those who have wronged him. At one point he comes to realize how far he's fallen but tries to justify it as being the only course of action to take in order to make sure the people who have hurt his loved ones won't hurt anyone ever again...even if it means abandoning his human side and siding with the demon hordes against humans to get the job done properly.
* ItsPersonal: [[HeWhoFightsMonsters Refan]] goes after [[SorcerousOverlord Zarnagon]] because Zarnagon has harmed Refan's loved ones. This also happens when Refan confronts [[TheMole Awar]] who has slain Refan's dear friend and adoptive little sister [[WanderingMinstrel Nalaen]], and it eventually leads to Refan brutally disarming and murdering Awar in cold blood, signalling Refan embracing his [[SuperPoweredEvilSide demonic side]].

* LoveRuinsTheRealm: Sultana [[HighQueen Razia al-Saif]] ends up having an affair with Count [[ManipulativeBastard Belial de Ardyn]], and they genuinely fall in love but have to keep their affair a secret because the [[ProudWarriorRaceGuy Sarquil]] tribes and the court, who follow the rigid religious teachings of the Old Ways, would never accept their Sultana marrying a foreigner. However, the affair doesn't escape the eyes of the Sultana's twin sister, [[BadassPrincess Emira]] [[LadyOfWar Adela]], who has also set her eyes on Belial, but Belial rejects her in favour of Razia. Adela [[WomanScorned doesn't take rejection well]] and, coupled with other things related to her sister's political moves, eventually challenges Razia to a duel which ends in Razia's death and Adela ascending the throne. This begins a chain of events which leads to the exile of Razia's son [[WarriorPrince Khalid]] and his supporters, the [[PathOfInspiration Clergy of Artemicia]] rising to power thanks to Adela backing them up and forcing the Sarquil to convert to the new faith, and Adela's sorcerous accomplice [[EvilChancellor Iblis al-Djinn]] becomes Grand Vizier. It leads to both the rise of the Sultanate of Karaganda but turns the Sarquil nation corrupt and decadent until Khalid returns with the [[TheAlliance Grand Alliance]] to dethrone Adela in a daring coup. The resulting battle weakens the sultanate enough so that the demons invade the divided land by surprise and eventually take over the sultanate, forcing the Sarquil into exile. All of this took place because both Razia and Adela simply fell in love with the same man.
