She makes it seem that they put Eve on a cart to escape towards the ocean. Once cornered, Gabrielle would drink the potion first to make it seem she died in the ensuing crash. Afterwards, she would fake her own death by drinking the same potion, a drink capable of fooling even the gods. Once they appear to be dead, Octavius was to keep the bodies safe and try and wake them up. It only fails because they didn't think that Ares would want to keep the bodies for himself.
