Tropes
- And I'm the Queen of Sheba: At the beginning of the episode, when Joxer states that he was friends with Gabrielle and Xena, a random, unbelieving drunkard quips that Xena was his housemaid.
- Batman Gambit: Xena makes it appear that she was willing to let Celesta die so that no one would die. This would force the gods to make an exchange. She makes it seem that they put Eve on a cart to escape towards the ocean. Once cornered, Gabrielle would drink the potion first to make it seem she died in the ensuing crash. Afterwards, she would fake her own death by drinking the same potion, a drink capable of fooling even the gods. Once they appear to be dead, Octavius was to keep the bodies safe and try and wake them up. It only fails because they didn't think that Ares would want to keep the bodies for himself.
- Break the Cutie: Xena throws her resentment of all her friends who have died to Celesta. It's enough to send the poor woman to tears.
- Dead Guy on Display: Ares ends up placing the Not Quite Dead bodies of Xena and Gabrielle in an ice casket in the mountains.
- Faux Death: Xena and Gabrielle ingest a potion that only gives the illusion that they are dead thanks to the tears of Celesta. It's good enough to even fool the gods.
- Invisibility: Hades tries to use the Helmet of Hermes to sneak up on Xena. Luckily, she sensed him and used her chakram to land a hit on him.
- Took a Level in Jerkass: Hephaestus, judging from his previous appearance on Hercules.
- Neck Lift: Hades is rather fond of holding Gabrielle by the neck.
- Prophecy Twist: The Fates state that only in the essence of death can Xena keep Eve safe from the gods. What they didn't say was that Xena actually had to die to do so.
- Second Love: Joxer ends up marrying Meg, the second person he fell in love with and the first one he had a serious relationship with.
- Spanner in the Works: The plan to fake their deaths worked with no problems. That is until Ares took their bodies and preserved them on a mountain, separating them from Eve.
- Wham Episode: Xena and Gabrielle fake their deaths, but things go awry. Eve is safe in the arms of Octavius, but the two have been put on stasis for many years.
