--------
* AnArmAndALeg: Cameron Hodge lost an arm and a leg, during the chaos on Genosha. He embraced the Phalanx because it restored his lost limbs. He's most displeased when he's ultimately returned to normal.
* ArmorPiercingResponse:
** Magneto is unconcerned with the Phalanx threat, ignoring Amelia's warnings about Xavier and countless others being taken. Beast gets his attention, though.
--->'''Beast:''' The Phalanx has also captured Quicksilver, your son.
** When it's all over, Magneto remains quite cynical about Xavier's attempt to put a positive spin on different mutants working together in common cause. Xavier, however, sees one reason for a hopeful attitude approaching.
--->'''Xavier:''' Even if you have given up hope for yourself, Magnus, there are reasons to work for a better future. Here comes one now.\\
''[Quicksilver walks up]''
* BatmanGambit: Forge, Amelia, and Mr. Sinister break into one of the Spire's chambers and begin freeing prisoners. With the Phalanx distracted, Magneto uses a force bubble to get himself, Beast, and Warlock inside the core. He lets a tendril break the field so that Warlock can get in position to activate the virus.
* BeardOfSorrow: Magneto sports one, due to being in a depressed mood over Asteroid M's destruction. Hodge thinks it's a good look.
* BigNo: Hodge, after being restored to normal and being stuck with mundane prosthetic limbs once again.
* CallBack:
** Hodge survived [[Recap/XMenS1E7SlaveIsland the tidal wave]], but it cost him AnArmAndALeg.
** When the sample takes the form of Hodge, Beast immediately recognizes him. [[Recap/XMenS1E3EnterMagneto Hodge was previously his lawyer.]]
* CaptainObvious: When Warlock says it's time to retreat after getting the sample, Magneto describes him as this.
* CyberneticsEatYourSoul: Hodge is fully onboard with the Phalanx, both enjoying his new power and reveling in the assimilation of others.
-->'''Xavier:''' Did you lose your humanity when you were assimilated by the Phalanx, or did you have any to begin with?
* CynicIdealistDuo: Once the day is saved, Xavier is heartened by how different mutants worked together for the common good. Magneto chastises this optimistic attitude, arguing everyone was just looking to save themselves rather than building a better world.
* DidntSeeThatComing: Beast over Hodge being involved in all this.
* DistressCall: Beast sends out an urgent distress call to anyone listening, but he gets no response. He has no idea if the Phalanx is jamming them or if there's no one left to answer.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Hodge acts polite to his prisoners and the attacking mutants, all while talking about assimilating all life in the universe. He also "thanks" Wolverine for helping them figure out how to assimilate mutants.
* HoldTheLine: Banshee stays behind in the hanger to give the group time to fly away.
* {{Irony}}:
** Hodge notes that Wolverine's HealingFactor makes him even more resistant to the Phalanx than other mutants, but at the same time, his skeleton is bonded to "a very good conductor" and thus provides the key to assimilating mutants.
** Xavier notes a virus ended up being a curative, as a number of previously opposed characters joined forces to stop a common enemy.
* NearVillainVictory: After examining Wolverine, the Phalanx cracks how to assimilate mutants and take their powers. Beast's group begin their assault just as the assimilations begin.
* NoOneGetsLeftBehind:
** Averted. When the Phalanx arrives at Muir Island, Moira wants to evacuate the patients, but Forge says they have to prioritize getting the virus to safety.
** Averted again when a tendril snags Moira on the plane. Beast tries to help her, to which Sinister says she'll infect the whole plane.
* NobleDemon: When initially rejecting the others, Magneto takes the time to refer to Sinister as "that vile creature" for good measure.
* TheQuisling: Hodge sees himself as a guide for the Phalanx and everyone else as assimilation fodder.
* ResignedToTheCall: Warlock asks Beast and Forge to help him go back home. He says he can't just keep running away from his troubles and that he must bring real change for his people.
* ThisExplainsSoMuch: After Forge theorizes that mutants are resistant to assimilation, Mr. Sinister says this explains why the Phalanx went after his lab and the mansion. They need all the data they can get about mutants.
* TooDumbToLive: With the group in need of offensive powers, Mr. Sinister opened the cocoon housing Cyclops. It never occurred to him that his ArchEnemy would try to shoot him on sight.
* VillainExitStageLeft: With the crisis over, Mr. Sinister is last seen running into the nearest dark alley. Cyclops wants to go after him, but Jean just hopes he stays there and away from them.
* YouFool:
** Mr. Sinister in response to Magneto deriding him as a vile creature. He does it again when Cyclops tries to shoot him on sight, after being woken up.
** Hodge in response to Warlock activating the virus and bringing down the Phalanx.

On Mister Sinister's plane, a discussion unfolds between Sinister, Beast, Forge, and Warlock about countering the Phalanx invasion. Meanwhile, Wolverine, imprisoned by the aliens, breaks free and discovers that Cameron Hodge has been possessed by the Phalanx. Hodge reveals his plan to exploit Wolverine's adamantium bones as a conductor due to his invulnerability to the Phalanx's control.

As the Phalanx takes over Muir Island, the group evacuates, leaving Moira and Banshee behind while Amelia manages to escape. Seeking additional aid, they find Magneto, who agrees to join the cause to protect his endangered son, Quicksilver.

The heroes successfully infiltrate the Phalanx's stronghold, the Empire State Building, and secure a Phalanx sample. However, the sample transforms into Hodge's head before they can administer Forge's virus. Meanwhile, Wolverine witnesses his comrades being assimilated by the Phalanx. But then, Beast, Amelia, Forge, and Sinister storm into the base, initiating a firefight and liberating the captives. Warlock merges the virus with the Phalanx collective, eradicating the alien threat.

In the aftermath, the X-Men, Forge, Warlock, Warlock's saved "lifemate," Magneto, and Polaris, who was also rescued, celebrate their hard-earned victory.
