A group of "ghostly" conquistadors has been robbing towns along the Mexican border. West and Gordon investigate a group of bandits who are attacking and terrorizing follow their trail across the border towns. They track to San Pedro, where they learn that the bandits raiders are using a secret pass in the mountains to reach a Mexican hidden valley. Upon riding out there they encounter and rescue Juan Ramirez and his daughter, Cosina. The two are residents of Buena Vista, a town in the hidden valley which sits in the shadow of a volcano inhabited by the conquistadors and their leader, the white "god" Cortez. Cosina guides the agents to the village where the thieves are hiding under the guise of an old Mexican legend and they set about Cortez. Jim and Artie, not believing in the return ending Cortez's reign of the god Cortez, are determined to find their way into the dormant volcano where the thugs are hiding.
