* ForWantOfANail:
** Due to the [[MakeAnExampleOfThem severe example]] Shendu gave Valmont in the previous chapter, Hak Foo is introduced in a different office where Shendu is not present.
** The outcome of the showdown in Bavaria is slightly different in that Tohru manages to escape with the Dog Talisman and bring it to Shendu. In the canon episode, Uncle just jumped out of Tohru's reach when the latter tried to take the Talisman from him, resulting in Tohru falling from the clock tower. In this chapter, Valerie taking a hold of Uncle prevents him from making the jump, allowing Tohru to grab hold of the Talisman and take it with him as he falls.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Valerie's argument with her mother leads her to saying that she didn't need her mother before her father's death and still doesn't. Valerie is mortified with herself, but is too prideful to apologize.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Valerie unwittingly allows Tohru to take the Dog Talisman from Uncle when she prevents the latter from dodging the large man's attempt to grab it. Tohru is then able to escape and bring it to Shendu, who now has three Talismans in his possession. Jade attempts to downplay it by stating that between the [[ImmortalityInducer Dog]] and the [[EyeBeams Pig]], the Dark Hand getting the former instead of the latter is preferable.
