* VillainousFaceHold: Amon ominously reaches toward restrained Korra's face, making her and the audience terrified that he's about to take away her bending. At the last moment, he switches to grab her by the chin instead, forcing her to look at him as he explains that the only reason he's ''not'' doing that yet is because it would be politically unwise at this early stage.

* DramaticIrony: Tarrlock brings up Yakone while arguing for his strategy to combat the equalists. Tenzin angrily exclaims that the two situations are completely different. [[spoiler: But they're not. Yakone was a magnificently powerful blood bender crime boss that Aang had to deal with back in the day. Amon is not only a startlingly powerful blood bender as well, but is Yakone's son, trying to succeed where his father failed.]]

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: Amon's response to a challenge to one-on-one combat with Korra? Have his {{Mooks}} ambush her in the dark with a complete aversion of MookChivalry, and then drop in to deliver a BreakingSpeech. The only way he could have been more savvy is to have stripped her of her bending there and then. And he even completely justifies why he doesn't, namely to avoid making her a martyr for benders the world over to rally behind.
