Too implausible because it involves treaty with the Federation.

* AssInAmbassador: The incompetence of the Federation Diplomatic Corps rears its head again, this time in the form of negotiating a one-sided treaty with the Klaestrons that essentially lets them kidnap anybody they like from Federation space [[ArtisticLicenseLaw under the veneer of extradition]]. Fortunately for all concerned, [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome the Bajoran system is not Federation space]].

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: The Klaestrons defend kidnapping Jadzia by citing a treaty with the Federation that permits them to unilaterally "extradite" anybody they like from Federation space. However, as established back in "[[Recap/StarTrekDeepSpaceNineS01E01E02Emissary Emissary]]", Deep Space 9 is legally ''Bajoran'' soil--Starfleet just runs it on their behalf--and the Bajorans are not yet members of the Federation, meaning a major diplomatic incident that Kira and Sisko exploit to stymie the extradition.

The episode doesn't state how Klaestron IV law defines treason, so it's perfectly possible their definition is different from Earth laws. Therefore there is no artistic license used.

* ArtisticLicenseLaw: The Klaestrons attempt to charge Dax with treason against their government, but treason only applies to someone who is a citizen of that nation-state (a planet, in this case) betraying their own government. Klaestron IV is not a member of the Federation, so a Federation citizen could not commit treason against them. A more proper charge would have been espionage against their government. A possibility is that Curzon Dax wasn't considered a foreign dignitary like most diplomats. He certainly lived there for a while, to have had such a close friendship with Ardelon Tandro (not to mention his wife...), and must have had high military clearance to be a suspect in his betrayal, so perhaps his long and intimate working relationship with the Klaestron government made him "one of us" under their jurisprudence.

None

Added DiffLines:

* InspectorJavert: Ilon Tandro's mission is to find a person suspected of high treason and the murder of a general (who also happens to be Ilon's father) and bring her to trial, which normally would be considered a noble goal, but in this case the suspect happens to be one of main characters, so Ilon becomes the antagonist of the story.
