'''Volume 2, Episode 08:'''
!Field Trip

Following last night's incident at the CCTS tower, Ruby is called in by Ozpin, Glynda and Ironwood to report about her fight with Cinder. Ruby notes that the assailant used Dust woven into her clothing and may have a connection to Roman Torchwick and the White Fang, though Ozpin does not see enough evidence to link the two. She also brings up mention of a base to the southeast. Dismissing Ruby once they are satisfied, the trio debate what their next move should be.

Back in the dorm, Weiss, Blake and Yang try to cheer Ruby up after a tense encounter, and Yang breaks the ice by revealing that a parcel has arrived from home. She opens the lid and out pops Ruby's adorable corgi Zwei, along with several cans of dog food and a letter from their father, Taiyang. Blake is terrified of the little dog and seeks refuge on the top bunk away from him, while Weiss [[PetTheDog completely melts at the sight of him and is reduced to blubbering baby talk]].

At that moment an intercom fills the dorms instructing the students to make for the amphitheater as Ozpin will be making an address to the students. Weiss expresses concern about Zwei being left alone in the dorm, but Ruby has other ideas...

In the speech, Ozpin informs the students of the four academies that a field trip is planned. Each team will be accompanied by a veteran Huntsman on a mission of the team's choosing. Taking into account Ruby's concerns, Weiss suggests a Grimm seek-and-destroy mission in the southeast, hoping to locate this base Cinder mentioned. However, this mission is normally unavailable for first years, however Ozpin is so impressed with RWBY's performance so far that he allows the exception to be made.

After a concerning warning from Velvet Scarlatina of the returning Team CFVY about abnormally large numbers of Grimm, morale among RWBY is low. Ruby reminds the group that a veteran Huntsman will be joining them, and they should be able to handle it.

And then they learn just ''who'' that Huntsman is:

-->'''Oobleck''': Hello there girls! Who's ready to fight for their lives!?

Summarising the episode since a Recap page only needs a couple of lines.

We start off with Ozpin, Ironwood, and Glynda arguing about Cinder's actions last episode. Just as things get heated Ruby shows up and gives her account of the night, as well as sneaking in a bit of extra info. Later upon Ruby's return to her dorm the rest of Team RWBY ask how the debriefing went. Ruby is dejected cause she isn't sure she helped anything during the meeting, in an effort to cheer her up Yang shows Ruby a package from home, that contains the family dog...somehow, as well as a ton of dog food, a can opener, and a letter. Ruby is cheered right up, though Weiss is at first against the idea, she warms up to it. Blake on the other hand, will not be swayed and demands the dog be kept out of her stuff.

Later its revealed that Beacon and the three visiting schools will be going on training missions, where their teams will shadow a working Hunter or Huntress. Team RWBY plans to try and hit two birds with one stone and pick a mission near Torchwick's base of operations, but missions in that area are denied to first years. Luckily, Ozpin allows the team to go but with a dire warning.

Excited that they got the mission they wanted, team RWBY eagerly await to find the Hunter they will be working with, only to find out it is Professor Oobleck.

Also we get a cameo from team CFVY.

* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Ozpin continues his path of not just tolerating his students' extra-curricular activities but supporting bringing their activities into line with their coursework and field training. He not only permits Team RWBY to go to the south-east region, he actively bends the rules to get them there. It's partially because he knows that they'll break the rules and sneak there anyway, so at least this way he can give them adult support and resources.
