Angel Grove faces its DarkestHour.

Citizens are led away at spearpoint to a central holding area as the Rangers look on, despondent, while [[Recap/PowerRangersInSpaceS1E43CountdownToDestructionPart2 the Dark Fortress settles over the city in the wake of Dark Specter's death]].

On top of a nearby building, Astronema and Ecliptor appear, having beamed down from the Fortress. She gloats in front of the citizens of the city, noting that the Power Rangers have failed to protect them and musing aloud over whether the team is hiding among them. She orders the populace to surrender the Rangers to her by the following morning, under [[KillEmAll threat of killing everyone]].

Night falls as a group of captured citizens huddle for warmth around a fire -- among them, [[NoticeThis an old man with a scruffy beard, an older woman]] and [[BackForTheFinale Bulk and Skull]]. The old man and woman bicker about whether the Rangers have abandoned Earth, but Bulk shuts them up, telling them the team hasn't let down the city yet and to have faith that they will appear in time.

The Rangers, watching this discussion from afar, wonders what they're supposed to do in the face of such an overwhelming force, only to be surprised when Zhane stumbles in, having fled from the wrecked Mega-Winger. He tells them that he's received word that the rebels on [=K0-35=] have surrendered to Astronema's forces, causing Cassie to exclaim that they're alone and there's nothing they can do. The others muse about rallying other forces on Earth, but T.J. tells them they'll be in just as much danger too if they help.

Andros tells them he has a plan -- get up to the Dark Fortress and once again try to convince Karone that she's not evil. T.J. tells him it's a horrible plan, and to let her go because [[ThatManIsDead what she was is permanently lost]]. Ashley and Carlos tell the others that they still have time until the morning, and decide to plan a counterattack against the Quantrons.

As the team plans their next movie, Andros sneaks away to transform, but before he can do so, he's interrupted by Ashley, who asks where he's going. He tells her that he still has faith that he can sway Karone back to the side of good, despite her pleadings, and elects to head to the Fortress [[AllUpToYou by himself]] to face her one last time. When he expresses doubt he'll come back, Ashley reassures him and says she'll see him again. He morphs into his Battlizer mode and flies away as Ashley looks on regretfully...

The following morning, Astronema and Ecliptor once again reappear on top of the same building and demand the citizens present the Rangers to her. The Rangers, still hiding behind a vehicle, wonder what to do as Astronema chastizes the citizens for being foolish enough to want to die en masse to protect them.

Just before she orders her forces to attack, a lone voice calls out:

--> '''[[IAmSpartacus I am the Blue Ranger!]]'''

The crowd parts as Bulk, with Skull and Professor Phenonemous standing near him, announces he is the Blue Ranger to incredulous stares from the crowd of onlookers. Bolstered by his resolve, Skull pipes up and announces that he is the Black Ranger, followed by Phenonemous stating he's the Red Ranger. Adelle Ferguson also moves through the crowd, telling Astronema she's the Pink Ranger, followed by the old man and woman telling her they're the Silver and Yellow Ranger, respectively. The Rangers look on in awe at this show of support from the citizens, while more and more people speak up and tell Astronema that they're Rangers as well.

Astronema, fed up with the situation, orders Ecliptor and the Quantrons to "destroy everyone", and begins firing as the crowd is pushed back. Just when it seems they're done for, another voice calls out:

--> '''T.J.''' ''[[WhamLine We are the Power Rangers]]''.

Breaking the one rule Zordon instilled six years earlier in every team of Rangers up to this point, the Rangers publicly reveal their identities to the crowd on top of an overturned truck, prompting Bulk and Skull to reel in shock. They transform in full view of the crowd, and Zhane tells Astronema that she's gone too far this time. Elgor dares them to come down and face the army, and the team leaps off the truck to engage them, while Andromeda and Ecliptor transport back to the Fortress and fly off. Seeing this display of bravado play out in front of him, [[ItHasBeenAnHonor Bulk rallies the crowd to join the fight, and he, Skull, Adelle and many others begin to fight off the Quantrons...]]

Onboard the Dark Fortress, Ecliptor is supervising the movement of supplies out of the control room (with Zordon still looking on) when Andros arrives, having stowed away onboard the ship as it flew into space. He creates a distraction by shooting a pipe in the Fortress' main core, causing Ecliptor to send forces to check it out. When he's moved out of the room, Andros seals the enemy forces in locking the door behind them.

Andros moves into the control room and finally discovers Zordon, who he greets and says he never thought he'd see again. Zordon tells him to listen closely, and delivers one of the most shocking lines in the franchise's history:

--> '''Zordon:''' There is not much time. The forces of evil have already captured most of the universe. Soon, they will capture the Earth.\\
'''Andros:''' Yes, I know...\\
'''Zordon:''' You can stop it.\\
'''Andros:''' How? Tell me!\\
'''Zordon:''' ''[[ICannotSelfTerminate Shatter my energy tube.]]''

Zordon tells him that if he shatters the tube, [[DeusExMachina the resulting energy wave]] will destroy the forces of evil. Andros reacts in shock, telling him he'll die and saying that there has to be another way. Zordon then says that while this will happen, "[[AlwaysWithYou his spirit will forever live in the hearts of those who are good]]," and says there is no other way.

Andros summons his Spiral Saber and goes to shatter the tube, but stops at the last moment, saying he doesn't have it in himself to destroy his own mentor. His attention is diverted when Astronema arrives, fully intent on killing her own brother. Despite his attempts to sway her and avoid a confrontation, [[CurbStompBattle she mops the floor with him]], hitting him multiple times as he pleads for her to stop. She tells him that victory is within her grasp, and throws him through several walls, leading him to land beside his dropped Spiral Saber. When she goes in for the kill and fires her spear, Andros instinctively raises the Saber -- causing the resulting blast to ricochet and strike her square in the chest, seemingly killing her.

The despondent Andros [[PleaseWakeUp begs Karone to wake up]], while Ecliptor finally breaks out of the core room by himself and sees what's happened. Furious over the sight, [[DragonTheirFeet he begins one last duel with Andros]] after [[LikeASonToMe lamenting the death of his surrogate daughter]]. As they fight, Zordon tells Andros that time is running out, leading the latter to deliver a series of punishing blows that knock Ecliptor to the ground in a daze.

As the battered Ecliptor crawls over to Astronema, Zordon delivers one last line to Andros.

--> '''Zordon:''' [[AllUpToYou It is your duty as a Power Ranger to save the universe.]] ''[[WhamLine Now is the time.]]''

With no other options available, [[HeroicSacrifice Andros swings his Saber into Zordon's tube as the latter closes his eyes for the last time]].

Ecliptor, seeing what's happening, stands up and yells in shock, but is hit with a beam of pure energy that explodes out of the tube, [[ReducedToDust turning him to dust]]. The energy wave emanates from the Dark Fortress in all directions, heading for every part of the galaxy.

On the Phantom Ranger's homeworld, the wave passes through King Mondo and the Machine Empire forces, which turn to dust as both the Phantom Ranger and Blue Centurion look on incredulously at their luck. On Gratha, Divatox is shown fleeing from the oncoming wave -- which passes through her and [[SomethingWeForgot transforms her back]] into a WomanInWhite, wearing similar clothing to Dimitria. On the planet where Rita and Zedd have the Gold Ranger held hostage, she screams out loud for Zedd to help her before the beam dissolves the entirety of their forces -- and turns them into humans, who decide to share a dance in celebration as Trey looks at the confusing scene.

The citizens fighting the Quantrons in Angel Grove are amazed when the energy wave passes through and dissolves Elgor and the rest of the enemy forces, leading the crowd to cheer in response and hug each other. The Rangers are forcibly depowered as a result of the wave, and wonder aloud what could have happened to Andros. Before Ashley has a chance to explain, the Dark Fortress reappears in the sky, leading the team to assume that Astronema has won and is reasserting her control.

However, as the vessel lands, Andros walks out -- carrying Karone's lifeless body. Andros sets her on the ground and begins to cry as the rest of the Rangers run over in shock. He begins to cry over her body, but [[SwissArmyTears his tears]] cause Karone's implants to disappear, alongside changing her back to the way she was before she was recaptured by Ecliptor. She reacts in shock and asks where she is, prompting him to tell her ItsALongStory.

The team reconvenes on the Astro Megaship and returns to [=K0-35=], where they deliver supplies to the resistance members to help rebuild their colony. Commander Kinwon and the other rebels suggest the Rangers stay on the planet for a time to help them rebuild, but Carlos, T.J. and Cassie tell them that they're feeling homesick and want to get back to Earth. Elsewhere, Andros is walking hand-in-hand with Ashley, who laments that she has to say goodbye to him (revealing that he wants to stay on the planet). Andros tells her that the planet is his home.

As the Rangers assemble one more time and bid farewell to the colony, they wave goodbye to Karone and Zhane, who have also elected to stay behind. Onboard the Astro Megaship, Ashley is clearly conflicted over leaving Andros behind... only for it to be revealed that Andros has decided to join her on the trip back after all.

Andros orders DECA to pilot a course for Earth, revealing to the team that Zhane and Karone have also decided to come back and that "their place" is with the others. Together, the team gives each other a hug, and T.J. issues one more command before the ship flies back to Earth.

* EndOfAnEra: Of the "Zordon Era". This episode functionally puts to rest most major plotlines in the series. Zordon, the Rangers' mentor, has sacrificed himself to put a stop to the attacking forces of evil throughout the galaxy, with most supporting Rangers seen one last time as they fight (and prove victorious) over Astronema's forces. More overtly, it's the first finale in the series that ends with the threat of evil explicitly vanquished, with no further evil forces of note to combat and the team heading back to Earth for some well-deserved rest.

Onboard the Dark Fortress, Ecliptor is supervising the movement of supplies out of the room control room (with Zordon still looking on) when Andros arrives, having stowed away onboard the ship as it flew into space.

Despite his attempts to sway her and avoid, [[CurbStompBattle she mops the floor with him]], hitting him multiple times as he pleads for her to stop.

The citizens fighting the Quantrons in
Angel Grove are amazed when the energy wave passes through and dissolves Elgor and the rest of the enemy forces, leading the crowd to cheer in response and hug each other. The Rangers are forcibly depowered as a result of the wave, and wonder aloud what could have happened to Andros. Before Ashley has a chance to explain, the Dark Fortress reappears in the sky, leading the team to assume that Astronema has won and is over. While reasserting her control.

However, as the vessel lands, Andros walks out -- carrying Karone's lifeless body. Andros sets her on the ground and begins to cry as the rest of
the Rangers figure out a plan run over in shock. He begins to save cry over her body, but [[SwissArmyTears his tears]] cause Karone's implants to disappear, alongside changing her back to the civilians, way she was before she was recaptured by Ecliptor.

Elsewhere,
Andros goes off is walking hand-in-hand with Ashley, who laments that she has to say goodbye to him (revealing that he wants to stay on the planet). Andros tells her that the planet is his own to save both his sister home.

As the Rangers assemble one more time
and Zordon.

!!Tropes in this episode include:
bid farewell to the colony, they wave goodbye to Karone and Zhane, who have also elected to stay behind.

Together, the team gives each other a hug, and T.J. issues one more command before the ship flies back to Earth.

time. More overtly, Zordon tells him it's his "destiny" to save the universe.
* AndTheAdventureContinues: The series (and the franchise, if the ending stuck) would have ended with the team, now with Zhane and Karone accompanying them, flying back to Earth for more adventures...
* BackForTheDead: Zordon and Zordon, the Machine Empire.
* BackForTheFinale: Plenty of faces from the past:
** Rita, Zedd, Goldar, Mondo, Machina, Sprocket, Klank & Orbus, and Divatox are all on the bad guy's side.
** Meanwhile, Blue Senturion
Empire and the Gold, Phantom entirety of Divatox, Zedd and Aquitian Rangers Rita's forces (save for the aforementioned leaders) are fighting turned to dust as a result of the UAE.Z-Wave, permanently ending the overriding threats of the last six seasons.
* BackForTheFinale:
** Bulk and Skull (and Professor Phenonemous), who last appeared eleven episodes prior in "Ghosts in the Machine", finally reappear -- and play a decisive role in the resolution of the fight against Astronema's forces in Angel Grove.
** The same goes for Adelle Ferguson (of the ''Surf Spot'') who reappears one last time to join Bulk, Skull and the old man[=/=]woman during their IAmSpartacus moment.

* ItHasBeenAnHonour: Implied when Bulk and Skull shake hands before leading the civilian mob to aid the Rangers. They likely don't expect to survive, but go out to help the Rangers anyway.

* KarmaHoudini: Zedd, Rita and Divatox seemingly get off scot-free after committing all manner of villainous deeds throughout the franchise, via the suggestion in the finale that the Z-Wave has turned them into good people.

* [[LikeASonToMe Like A Daughter To Me]]: Ecliptor mourns Astronema in this way, just before he fights Andros for the last time.

* MassOhCrap: Once it becomes clear that the approaching energy wave emanating from the Dark Fortress is ''not'' helpful, most of the villains resort to freaking out or trying to run.

** It's also implied that the Mega-Winger isn't ''quite'' trashed, as Zhane claims that his "Zord is in the shop", necessitating he get a ride back (presumably to retrieve it).

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: For the first time in the franchise's history, the Rangers are forced to publicly reveal their identities in front of Angel Grove in order to protect them, breaking the one rule Zordon told them not to disregard in the process.

* SeriesFauxnale: The two-parter (and the series) originally functioned as the EndOfAnEra for the franchise, bringing together and closing off the majority of the major plotlines and addressing the fates of most major villains in the series, along with a decisive sacrifice in Zordon that makes it abundantly clear that most enemies that were actively engaged in the fight against good was depowered or destroyed entirely. Yet, the episode (and the series) proved successful enough that it was renewed by FOX for further seasons (starting with ''Lost Galaxy'').
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Divatox is seen fleeing the battle on Gratha when the Z-Wave hits, turning into a good person.

* SmallRoleBigImpact: Bulk's RousingSpeech reassuring the citizens of Angel Grove to have faith that the team will return (and his and the population's subsequent IAmSpartacus moment) rallies the Rangers to fight for Angel Grove once more.

* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Most villains in the series either perished or were purged of evil, but many were not there, and what ultimately happened to them remains unknown. Goldar is the best example. Rito Revolto and Master Vile were absent too, as were many minor villains.
