** In Chapter 1043, just as Luffy is feared dead, Zunesha tells Momonosuke that he can hear the Drums of Liberation for the first time in eight centuries, and takes it as a sign that he's in Wano, right as Luffy becomes covered in a strange white substance and smiles.

** Chapter 1043: Luffy, who had just been knocked out by Kaido, is seen grinning as a strange rubbery substance is seen coming off his body.

*** Continuing with the shocking twists, a ''huge'' exposition dump is made about the Rocks Pirates, the enegmatic crew mentioned back at the Reverie. The crew was an organisation formed by a member of the D. Clan named Rocks D. Xebec with the intent to TakeOverTheWorld, and had Kaido, Big Mom, Shiki, and ''Whitebeard'' all among its ranks. In order to defeat them, Garp and Roger were forced into an EnemyMine during a battle in "God Valley" that saw the crew defeated. However, it is heavily implied there is ''much'' more to the incident that it seems, as the entire battle, the Rocks Pirates and God Valley itself had their existence covered up in the aftermath for some unknown reason.

** Chapter 1054: It's revealed what happened at the Reverie that shook the rest of the world; the Revolutionaries attacked the living quarters of the Celestial Dragons and destroyed the hoof of the Celestial Dragons openly declaring war upon the nobles. Nefeltari Cobra was then assassinated and Vivi disappeared, with both events being attributed to Sabo who has been declared as the hero of the world. The Revolutionaries were also able to rescue Kuma and escape, while Saint Charlos was almost murdered by an assassin who escaped. All these events, combined with an Eight-Nation Revolution, has caused the seeds of unrest around the world to be spreed. And if that wasn't enough Shanks returns in this chapter and declares that it's time for the Red Haired Pirates to capture the One Piece.

* SnakeOilSalesman: Usopp poses as one for his cover identity in Wano.
* SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay: When Kyoshiro appears before the alliance to aid them, he proves his true identity as Denjiro by revealing that Kin'emon was the only responsible for the Mountain Boar incident that Oden got blamed for, [[SecretKeeper something no one else but Denjiro knew about]].

* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: Kaido could easily kill anyone with his strength, but he keeps his more worthy opponents alive so he can make them work for him, including Luffy.

** Kuina and her father are descendants of Ryuma.

* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: Carrot and Wanda fight Perospero to avenge their ally Pedro, but are taken down easily when their Sulong forms wear off thanks to clouds covering the full moon. Unfortunately for him, they weren't the only ones with a score to settle as the Sulong forms of Cat Viper and Dog Storm defeat both him and Jack later, when the full moon is in clear view again.

** Towards the climax of their battle, Kaido mocks the Samurai's views on finding glory in death, calling it just an excuse to justify their loss and inherent weakness. Luffy retorts that the Samurai are strong people, only for Kaido to refute that whomever wins a fight doesn't need any excuses to defeat their opponents, only that they were the stronger one in the end. Shortly afterwards, the head [=CP0=] agent holds Luffy back from his last attack long enough for Kaido's own to hit him before he can stop, effectively giving Kaido an excuse to justify his "defeat" of Luffy, despite what he claimed. Kaido's devastated face shows the irony of the situation runs deep, especially since it echoes his earlier "victory" over Oden.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** When Kanjuro is leading a tied-up Momonosuke through Kaido's fortress, we get a panel of Momo looking at a knife on the ground. Since he told the alliance that he'd find a way to free himself, you'd think this would kick it off, right? Except the next time we see him, he's been beaten to a pulp by Kanjuro, whose abilities as a master samurai easily trounce any impromptu escape methods an 8-year-old boy might find.

** When an amnesiac Big Mom arrives at the prison and attacks Luffy (because he ate all the o-shiruko that she wanted), Luffy manages to get the death collars off of Hyogoro and himself just in time to save them from dying. Hyogoro notices that he did so via a very advanced form of Armament Haki, and tries to get Luffy to do it again to defend them both from Big Mom. Luffy attempts it... and she sends the two of them flying into a wall. As Luffy notes, he just did the technique without thinking, and so wasn't going to be able to perform it again -- on purpose this time -- so soon, especially without really knowing the mechanics of it.
** When Kanjuro is leading a tied-up Momonosuke through Kaido's fortress, we get a panel of Momo looking at a knife on the ground. Since he told the alliance that he'd find a way to free himself, you'd think this would kick it off, right? Except the next time we see him, he's been beaten to a pulp by Kanjuro, whose abilities as a master samurai easily trounce any impromptu escape methods an 8-year-old boy might find.
** Luffy finally figures out the secret to Ryou, along with what gives the Emperors such inexplicable toughness: coating oneself in Conqueror's Haki. Armed with this knowledge, he is able to challenge Kaido one-on-one... and still loses. EleventhHourSuperpower does not apply when the other side has years of experience with that same superpower, compared to someone who only just got it. It takes an ''actual'' EleventhHourSuperpower for Luffy to finally turn it around.
* SweetAndSourGrapes: When Oden first met the Whitebeard Pirates, he was given a test to join them: hold onto a chain attached to the Moby Dick for 3 days. Right before he passed, he heard Toki scream for help and let go immediately to help her. Whitebeard was so pleased by Oden's decision that he let Oden come along anyway.

** A flashback reveals that the legendary ''One Piece'' is Joy Boy's legacy and it made Roger and his crew laugh to the point of tears. However, what exactly that was all about and what the island of Laugh Tale looks like is something for another time. Roger only says that it is a generation too soon the claim it.

* PassingTheTorch: When Dogstorm and Cat Viper choose to remain in Wano, they appoint Carrot as the new ruler of the Mokomo Kingdom. They cite their reasons for being that she had grown a lot on her adventures with the Straw Hats and that Pedro's will lives on in her more than any one else. Even Wanda and the Musketeers support the decision and believe Carrot can do it.

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: As a child, Yamato came to idolize Oden after witnessing him impressive feat. Kaido decided if Yamato wanted to ''be'' Oden, then he would treat Yamato ''like'' Oden until he either died or gave up his beliefs, beating the crap out of him, starving him, detaining him up, and killing anyone who dared show kindness to Yamato. Although it made his childhood a nightmare, Yamato never gave in.
