While they could not have known the tropical storm they steered the ship towards would become a Category 5 hurricane and spawn a rogue wave that would capsize the ship, the bombing prevented the crew from being able to turn the ship around and avoid the rogue wave which ends up claiming 3 lives in addition to the crew member who was killed when the bomb went off.
