While talking to an undercover agent on a suspicious foreign ship, a bomb explodes, killing the agent and leaving Gibbs badly wounded. In the hospital and also comatose, Gibbs remembers his first wife and his daughter as well as their deaths along with his wounding in Desert Storm and also how he made the change from being a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps to an NIS/NCIS Special Agent. Meanwhile, with Gibbs out due to his injuries, Tony assumes temporary command of the team as they struggle to find [=PinPin=] Pula who is believed to be a member of the terrorist group, Abu Sayyaf.
