Zenigata's plan works, and the two manages to get a ride on the last car, but as the legionnaires shoot them Zenigata lose his hold and falls back, where he's captured again. However, Lupin disconnect the car (while the train is going up a slope) and send it back at full force against the soldiers. As he screams to Zenigata to run away as fast as he can, he throw his lighter in the car and run away as the thing explodes, taking out the Legion once and for all.
As they walk following the railway, Zenigata holds Lupin by the chain, claiming that he'll arrest him for real this time. However the thief persuades him to let him go for a little as he has to "relieve himself", and takes the chance for running away. And the eternal pursuit resumes once again in the sunset.
