* BrightIsNotGood: The beautiful unicorn that trails rainbows and sprays glitter is also a savage, flesh-eating monster.

* OddCouple: John and Gary. A macho mystic man and nebbish bureaucrat, and yet they love each other.

* BlackComedy: It's probably difficult to have a killer unicorn and ''not'' get a few dark laughs. Special mention goes to the team's awe at the unicorn being replaced with shock and horror when it gores a hapless victim. A bystander looks at his own unicorn t-shirt with an expression of absolute terror, and it's all played for laughs.

** Nate has this reaction when his dad offhandedly mentions the "Woodstock massacre", an event that was decidedly not a part of the normal history that Nate is familiar with.

* RippleEffectIndicator: The first sign to the Legends something is off is when Nate's dad mentions "the Woodstock massacre."

* ShownTheirWork: Despite their reputation in pop culture, in the old myths unicorns were indeed dangerous, wild and unpredictable creatures.

* WellDoneSonGuy: Nate's relation with his dad in a nutshell; a big macho army man who ended up with hemophilic son with bookish interests. Nate practically jumps for joy when he hears his dad say "I love you too" ([[ItMakesSenseInContext of course, it's actually Mick saying it, thinking that Nate is his beloved pet rat]]), and at the end of the episode, tries to bond with Hank over some beer.

** When Zari mentions that Wally [[PutOnABus took time off to find himself,]] she notes that's exactly what he did last year.
